Scooby-Doo!

Post by DuoTheShinigami02 » Thu Sep 09, 2004 1:52 pm

I've managed to snag the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! DVD set and relived my childhood.

So basically, this topic is about the canine detective and those meddling kids (I refuse to call them "Mystery Inc." because that name was just made up by the "fans") and your memories about the show (and the movies).

And as for my thoughts on Scrappy-Doo, my signature says it all.
"After all these years, you know it's not about control. It's about trying to do everything I can. And for you, it's about setting an example. Everyone looks up to you. They listen to you. If you tell them to fight, they'll fight. But they need to be inspired, and let's face it, 'Superman'...the last time you really inspired anyone... was when you were dead." -- Batman, to Superman, Infinite Crisis, issue 1

I despise scooby doo. I never really liked the cartoon as a kid, either. I dunno. It's just all so stupid to me.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

I liked the first few "seasons" or so of Scooby Doo much, MUCH more than the later ones. Once they introduced Scrappy, started phasing out Fred and Velma, and made the bad guys real monsters or aliens, it went down hill. I think "13 Ghosts" was the nail in the coffin for this show.

Scooby Doo had terrible animation, but then so did just about everything between Bugs Bunny and The Little Mermaid. The plots were hackneyed and after the first couple I started to predict whodunnit with about 100% accuracy. And yeah, if I were in a room with Chibiusa and Scrappy and only one bullet, it'd be a tough choice. But it's still a piece of Americana, as sad as that is, and I think everyone knows the line "and I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for those kids and their dog." And Fred, Velma, and Daphne were pretty cool, even though they didn't get a lot of screentime (I like one the take of one comedian who said that they were always splitting up so those three could engage in repeated menages a troi) But I don't think I'll be picking up the DVDs any time soon.

The Croonerism Spate (explanations upon request)
Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

I like Scooby Doo pretty well. It's not a personal favorite cartoon show of mine, but I don't abosuletly hate it. I also enjoy the original "Scooby Doo, Where are You?" cartoon show the most and despise Scrappy Doo. He was always so annoying with that "puppy power" crap. I also liked those one-hour episodes with the special cameo apperances of celeberities and I also liked "A Pup Named Scooby Doo", too. "Scooby Doo on Zombie Island" was an ok movie, but it started to get really corny with the cat monsters and when they
made the zombies the good guys.
I didn't like the live-action movie at all, with the expection of the deleted footage included on the DVD and the Scrappy Doo bashing.

I'm not really a fan either. The old episodes were okay. I've seen some of the newer ones @____>. The best thing I think it's done for society is give comedians material (remembers Canadian comic who mention about how the characters were always stoned because they listened to a talking dog)

Scooby-Doo is VERY predictable. In every single episode, you can guess exactly who's responsible for whatever's happening in the show and always be right.
Although, I have to say that the live-action movie is 100% worse than the show. We watched it in school once and...oh my god. Just awful.

Close. There's no "and their dog".

I'm one of the people who can't really stand Scooby Doo. Little plot, so predictable, and saying overplayed would be an understatement. And I caught some of the movie too at the dentist's office (I still go to my kid's dentist ^^;;; ), and it was horrible. Even when I was a kid I didn't enjoy it that much, and it got so much worse to me as I got older. And this is coming from a 21 year old who has his TV on Cartoon Network 80% of the time it's on. o.o;;;

Do you buy into the misconception that Scooby and the gang were on drugs? What's the deal with that?

I agree with a lot of the people here, Scooby Doo is sooooo annoying. It just gets on my nerves. Ooh, and the song, almost forgot that, the song is almost as annoying as the show.

It was always thought that Shaggy was on marijuana because he always wanted to eat so much and because he was so thin, and because of that beard that was typical of the stoner. But come on! It was a kids show! Maybe the writers put them in as double entendres but there was as much chance of them actually saying it as there was for Fish Eye to be a man in the dub.

No segue here, but let me say also that while the Mystery Machine was a cool vehicle on the show, actually going and painting a van just like it, as I saw on the road by my house not two days ago, is a little weird.

He was like a freaky beatnik man, who always had the munchies man...

Intersting little piece of trivia I found while I was bored. Apparently Scooby's original name was supposed to be "Too Much"
