The Simpsons!

Post by RoastedTwinkies » Wed Aug 25, 2004 1:57 am

I've noticed that we've discussed the Simpsons so much! I can't believe no one posted a thread about it! This thread is dedicated to everything Simpsons! Your favorite character, quote, episode, new episode discussion, whatever!

My favorite episodes include:
the one when they go to Japan and the Mr Sparkle one. Why? Just because I love anime and it was fun to read/hear the Japanese throughout the episodes.

My favorite character:
Lisa- just because she's smart. I admire her intellect.

Quote:
It's all really funny, I can't think of a favorite right now XD

XD The Simpsons kicks ass, although the later the series gets, the worse the episodes are. It just stopped being funny when they made the last couple of seasons.

I love the Mr. Sparkle episode. "MISSTAAAAH....SPARKELUUU!". That's how japanese commercials ARE, too...LMAO The one where they actually go to Japan is amusing, too.

I also love the tapdancing one with Lil Vicky...And I love some of the older episodes, like when Marge wants to join the country club and she keeps re-doing her Chanel suit to look like a new dress. The one where Social Services places Bart, lisa, and Maggie into the Flanders' foster care is hilarious too.

I do like Lisa as a character, but sometimes she can really grate on my nerves, as self-righteousness tends to do. I like Homer's simple humor a lot of the times. Comic-Book Store Guy is high on my list for the pure sarcasm factor.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

I quite agree with that. Lately, the new Simpsons episodes have been disappointing. I hated the Marge filler episodes, like the one when she writes a book, based on what her marriage with Homer was like. Homer didn't bother to read it, but yet still gave her permission to publish it. It was funny, but I just can't stand filler episodes. Especially those episodes when they do a bunch of flashbacks to episodes earlier in the series, or how they retell famous stories using the Simpsons characters. The writers of the show are definately running out of ideas.

Tiff, as you know, I love that one too. It's too hilarious. I also love the Halloween episodes! I think I actually like Marge the best, she's annoying in a way, but I think that's what I like about her. Anyone else own the dvd sets? I own the first two, but two have managed to come out since then, that I haven't had the money to buy them. For box sets they aren't expensive at all though, wish they'd release Sailor Moon box sets at such a price!

The Simpsons isn't really a must-watch show, where I need to see each new episode as it comes out, but it is a show you can just throw on and watch while playing video games or surfing the net, and that's a valuable commodity.

For characters, the Comic Book guy is great, if a little too close to what I am. And I like Disco Stu, if for no other reason that he started out as a one-time joke and then started showing up as an actual character.
Things I think Are Funny Early in the Morning: If Batman were a Smurf: "Quick, Robin! We must smurf down to the Batcave and smurf the Batplane! Then we must smurf the batsmurf so we can smurf where the Joker is smurfing!"

The Croonerism Spate (explanations upon request)
Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

Most of the earlier Halloween episodes kick ass. My favorite is "The Shinning".

Tiff
My favorite is "The Shinning".
Shhh!! You want to get sued? ^_^

Between me and my dad, we have almost every episode memorized word for word (except the new episodes, we stopped watching them). It's hard to pick a favorite character, but I'd have to go with Milhouse (''This is where I come to cry"). I used to like Lisa, but recently she's got so annoying in an "I'm right, everyone else is wrong" kind of way. But I blame that on the newer seasons. My favorite episode would be the Camp Krusty one (or anyone from season 3 to season 6). My dad's favorite is the one where Side Show Bob's at the air show.

Oh, and you know that rumour about a character coming out of the closet in a future episode, apparently
It's going to be Patty and Selma. Source Here
I thought it was funny when everyone kept asking which Springfield the Simpsons were from. In the episodes, they kept making jokes about it and it finally came out in one of the newer episodes:
The Simpsons are actually from Springfield, Kentucky (sp?)
Wow, the mystery was solved, lol. I didn't think they'd ever say where it was. I never saw that one.

My favorite Simpsons episode ever is the one I refer to as the Linguo episode - it's the one where you see the same events in a day from Marge's, Homer's, Bart's, and Lisa's perspectives. It's written so well, and it's hilarious. :D

Personally, I loved the simpsons. It was my favorite show.

Yes. I used the past tense.

The simpsons really started off really strong and just kept getting better, with a peak around season 6-8ish. (That's just a guess. Basically midway through its career). However, since then, the show has just degraded each season and now is practically CRAP.

The thing that's gone wrong with the Simpsons is that it's not the simpsons anymore. There used to actually be a PLOT or some type of story in each episode that was accompanied by some really witty or goofy humor. Now it's just "Hey! Let's watch some more crazy antics from the simpsons!" without anything going on in the episode. The thing that made the simpsons so great was that it was character driven and not joke driven. Lately (and by lately i mean for the past 5 years or so), they've totally lost everything that was good about the Simpsons. There's no personality to the show anymore. It's just really really sad. Every once in a while they'll get a good episode, but it's sadly few and far between.

I think it's time for the Simpsons to die. I know, it's sad, but we have to let go sometime (unless they rediscover what made the show great, in that case, sign them for 5 more seasons).

That..kinda sucks....The whole joke about it was what made it funny. I would have been happier had they just left it a mystery...

I kind of agree with that. It would have been cool to leave that until the final, final episode of the series, when it finally gets cancelled for good.

I remember reading about that! I read it when it was posted on the main page of msn. There was a whole article posted about it. I firmly believe there is truth to the rumors if there was an article posted on msn a few months back. We'll just have to sit back and relax and wait and see.

From what I've read, as it stands now, it's in the pitch stage, which means there's no script or even the idea that a studio wants to do it. Even if they get that they'll have to sign on the cast and, if possible, writers. That won't happen till the series ends, though the cast seems amicable. Of course, then it has to be scheduled and made, and the studios may think by then it's not worth it. So keep up hope, but don't anticipate too highly.
