2004 Summer Olympics!!!

Post by yoshmaster5 » Thu Aug 19, 2004 8:39 pm

Who else has been watching this?

I have, as much as possible.

Who thinks this charge on Aaron Piersol is just something to get revenge on the US?

EDIT:

wait... never mind. Disqualification thing dead.

To quote my mother:

"Okay, I have been doing this since the damn things started. I AM NOT STAYING UP UNTIL F*CKING MIDNIGHT TO WATCH THESE G*D**N OLYMPICS!"

I dunno, I guess it's just me. I think sports are boring (even the olympics!!!) and I don't watch them. Ever. I don't really know why, I just find it boring. I find it more fun if you're actually participating in it.

Oooh, ooh, me! I have! A lot of what I've seen, Australia's won a place in :D Shooting, swimming events, kicking ass in the basketball... I'm not usually a sports person but the Olympics brings out that rare side of me.

Did you know that Ian Thorpe is now Australia's most successful Olympian of all time? Yay! And such a nice guy, too.

I picked that up from his nickname: the thorpedo. ^_^

US won the All-round Gymnastics GOLD Medal for the 2nd time in history! ^_^

Anway I've noticed on a lot of judgeing things that usa/england have been marked down for stuff that they shouldn't have been marked down on

HOWEVER, even though I don't care about the Olympics, I thought it was funny when that guy jumped into the pool in a tutu before some diving competition. He got arrested, charged and got 5 months in jail. Now that's amusing :P

I sorta' watch the Olympics, I agree with Roasted Twinkies saying that sports are boring. But I like to watch gymnastics. It's fun to see how flexible they are. I like to watch swimming too. I like the Winter Olympics better though because I enjoy watching figure skating more than any things else done in the Olympics.

Yeah, I like watching the Olympics....And insanely cheering on the Canadian team. Even though we don't have a lot of medals at all, they're giving it their personal best, but that's all that matters! *waves flag rabidly*
Besides, the only thing that's good about medals is that they're shiney...*shifty eyes*
But on the topic of disqualification, I don't think it's to get revenge on anyone, but just that the athletes just made a really bad mistake. Like the Canadian two man rowing team. (Which I still think was slightly unfair, but the disqualification was pretty much justified)
And my cheering patterns are really weird. I might cheer for whichever country I like best, or what team's colours are cooler, or what athlete's name is the coolest. (Like Pieter van den Hoogenband! I love his name! I kept on laughing when I first heard it, but now it's just awesome!)

I watched the opening ceremonies while in Japan (they were on in the morning). Does any Canadian know if that seperatist carried the flag in the end? I left Canada before I found out.

I haven't heard anything about a seperatist carrying the flag, but I have searched all over the CBC website, just for you, to find out the Canadian flag bearer. And it turns out to be Nicolas Gill, who was in judo, but lost early on unfortunately. Whether he is a seperatist or not, I have no idea.
EDIT:
WAIT! I swear, just seconds after I posted this, I looked back at the website...I should read more, honestly...><
It was *reported* that he had voted in favour of the Quebec seperation in the 1995 referendum, but has recently tried to put those past acts behind him.

He was quoted as saying he feels more of a "Quebecian than a Canadian".
but has recently tried to put those past acts behind him.
I still think he's a seperatist. Is he Francophone or Anglophone? (I find this makes a difference in some people's opinions).

Just looking it up, he gave an interview with the Toronto Sun in 1995 where he said that (only he said "Quebecer"), but Monday said
"I'm proud of being from Quebec," he told Monday's news conference. "We are in Canada and I'm proud of that, too. You do what gives you the drive. It's really very personal. You have to do it for yourself.
While he seems to speak English fairly well, his website is in French, so I'd guess he's a Francophone.

In any case, whether he's a separatist or not, he's not making a political issue out of the games, and he's retiring after this year anyway.

Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

I've been watching some of the Olympics everyday. It's pretty hard to keep track of who won what, but I'm supporting America and Jamaica. I'm mostly into the swimming, gymnastics, and running part of track and field.

I watched a lot of the Olympics when it was on. I watched the gymnastics, swimming, diving, and volley ball.
