Um, that's not the original Annie. The original Annie starred Shirley Temple, and was released long before the 80s. ^^;;
Hun, Shirley Temple was never in Annie. The first Annie movie IS the one with Carol Burnett...it was on stage before that, but the first film was actually the one she speaks of.

She did, however, star in Miss Annie Rooney, which is completely unrelated to Daddy Warbucks.

I haven't seen very many musicals in the theater, but the few that I have seen, I *loved.* I saw Company (it freakin ROCKS!! I want the soundtrack soo much) and... well, damn, I can't remember now. But it must have been good.
As for movie musicals...I dislike a *lot* of them (I can't stand Grease.), but I do like "West Side Story" and "Annie" and "Tommy" (okay, it's really a Rock Opera, but if we're counting Rocky Horror, then, damnit, Tommy counts

) and along those same lines is "The Wall." And like Sailorasteroid said, the Muppet Movies absolutely rock. Muppets Take Manhattan and the Muppet's Christmas Special are two of my all-time favorite movies.

I LOVE the Nightmare Before Christmas. It's been one of my favorite movies since it first came out back in 1993. Danny Elfman's voice is just amazing and the work on the stop frame animation is incredibile.

How could I forget Jesus Christ Superstar! The 73 version was fantastic. My dad got to see a live version a few years ago with Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson before he died.

There was a high school acting club where I live that did a preformance of Jesus Christ Superstar a few months ago, and I just fell in love with the music (and the guitar)!! =D It's really well written, just amazing.

That's so awesome, I love to perform in musicals too! I hate it when I don't get picked for them though. It always makes me feel sorta' insecure and not know what do to now, and that I'll never get picked for a musical again. A little overboard, I know, but ohh well. Break a leg!

Actually, Artemis, my favorites are Jesus Christ Superstar and Grease too. I also like Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.... I love the French song, AKA Those Caanan Days
*sings* Those Caanan Days, we used to know, where have they gone, Where Diiiiiid they go? A toast! Raise your Berets! To, those Caanan days......
Btw, my dad was in two productions of JCSuperstar, and he was evil! Once he was Judas, once he was Pilate. But he was Jesus once in a production of Godspell, so there you go.

This topic is soooo old, I hope no one minds me bringing it back for a lil....but....I just saw Les Miserables like two weeks ago....OH MY GOD!!!! I have fallen in love with it. I cried when I watched it...and two of the guys who went (we went with our school) were bawling their eyes out it was soo adorable. Anyway also, this year for our school musical we're doing Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and I was wondering what you guys think of it. I've never seen it and I've only heard very very little about it. So just...is it a semi-decent musical? Or is it really dumb? Gracias

Les Miserables is the best!!!! I think I may have mentioned this before in this topic. Personally, I DESPISE Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat! I was in a production if it a year ago, and it got on my nerves so bad. The songs and everything in it are just very cheesy if you ask me.

My two favorites would have to be Les Mis (which I've seen on the stage) and Phantom (which I've only seen in the cringing film adaptation). At the moment though I've been scowering the net trying to find the musical of Hunter X Hunter but it's very ellusive.

Guildenstern: No; Death is not, it isn’t. Death is the ultimate negative; not being. You can’t not be on a boat.
Rosencrantz: I’ve frequently not been on boats.
Guildenstern: No; what you’ve been, is not on boats.

I just love the music from Phantom of the Opera sadly I've not had a chance to see the cinema release yet.
The Oliver Twist musical is also quite good as is Annie ( both seem to have a somewhat similar plot in a round about way)
Cat's however is my one time favorite I think the music and the plot are very very good.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! I JUST SAW THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA MOVIE!!!!!!! It's truly one of my favorite movies of all time. I came out of the cinema just like...... WOW! It's almost my new favorite movie!
“See this butt? Yeah. Look at it. LOOK AT MY BUTT. This is all you’re getting. MY BUTT to look at it. Yeah, bet you’re sorry now, aren’t you? You’d like to see my cute fuzzy face, wouldn’t you? But all you’re getting is the BUTT. LOOK AT IT. LOOK AT MY BUTT. Sucker.”
The thing is, Henrietta has—how can I put this? Kind of a big butt. If Henrietta were a celebrity? She’d be J-Lo.
Not that J-Lo has what I would call a big butt. But others have opined that this is so. I think J-Lo has a normal, healthy butt. As does Henrietta.

The "Phantom of the Opera" is my all time favorite musical. I can listen to it over and over and never tire of it. It was also the first Brodway production that I got to see live.

I'm a little surprised no one's mention Little Shop of Horrors yet (or, if someone has, I'm blind and I apologise). The performance I saw when I was in high school was awesome.
I just saw the movie version of The Phantom of the Opera on Friday, but I didn't really enjoy the movie itself. I can't wait to buy the soundtrack, though.

The music was incredible.

Oh yeah, I love Little Shop of Horrors. Haven't seen that one in a while. The dentist song is so funny.

I love Little Shop of Horrors. I really love the opening song in it....little shop, little shop of horrors.....the plant makes me laugh. I think its just really funny. The weirdest thing about it though.....the dentist in that movie reminds me exactly of my math teacher...they even look similiar. Kinda freaky.
