I'm hoping someone can help me figure this out. My boyfriend is in a military family. His dad just got back from Iraq February 4th. Well, come November 27th, he's going back for a year or more. That's not the part I don't understand.
June 30th his family received moving orders to Fort Drum, NY. Their packing date is August 12th. Well, they filled out deletion papers trying to get the main family to stay since his dad won't even be in Fort Drum and there is no reason for them to go if he is in Iraq for over a year. His mom is the leader of the FRG, a huge group for Fort Lee, so she needs to stay here for that.
On Monday, I'll find out if he has to move or not. What's the purpose of my boyfriend, his mom, and sisters to move to Fort Drum? If their dad isn't even going to be there for a year, there wont be anyone to do his job up there, and he has already been trained so he doesn't need to do anymore training. Hopefully the deletion papers have been cleared and he can stay.
Basically, his parents are trying to keep the kids and his mom here until his dad gets back from Iraq. So what do you all think about this? What are his chances of staying? The commander said he has papers for the meeting on Monday, I'm thinking that they might be the deletion papers. The only good thing if he goes is that my parents still said its ok for us to visit on weekends and school breaks.

Sweetie, first off, I'm sorry your boyfriend's dad has to go off to Iraq, and I"m sorry your boyfriend may have to move away.
Now...I myself came from a military family. My Dad has sense retired, but..I understand the moving thing. When we lived in Germany, my dad had to stay behind becuase of Desert Storm, and we went ahead of him to our next duty station. He also couldn't join us for about half a year. It's not an uncommon practice.
It is becuase he doesn't leave until November that they would still have to move. His next duty station is Fort Drum, and therefore, he still has to move if they say so, becuase he doesn't go to Iraq until NOVEMBER.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

But still, as I said, Fort Drum is his next duty station, so unless they decide to let him stay, he has to go with his family. You're welcome.Usagi04 wrote:Another thing I forgot to add is that his dad is on leave until November, and he's staying in Fort Lee until the day he leaves, that's why there trying to keep the family here. My father is in the military, and I understand what you're going through. However, as Tiff said, he doesn't leave for Iraq until November, so he may very well be PCSed. Does the family live on base? If so, then they will have to move once he changes duty stations. If they don't live on base, then they should be fine where they are.
Also, though I want to be supportive, I must say not to hold out too much hope. I know this sounds blunt and cynical, but... Active duty military and their dependants are US Government property. If the government wants to do something, they really just have to grin and bear it, even moreso than everyone else.
And to prove that I understand, I'll tell you this: My father was set to retire in December of 2005. Well, several months ago, he was assigned remote. He now has to go to Korea for a year, and he leaves in about a month. However, a certain amount of time must be spent as active duty after a remote, so his retirement has been pushed back to we-don't-know-when.

Hello everyone...I am the boyfriend of Usagi04...and is the one getting sent to Fort Drum. And we find out if the 4187 Deletion Papers were approved by the Department of the Army. What Parakiss said is true, my dad, since he is in active duty, is pretty much the property of the goverment, which means they pretty much can do whatever they feel like doing with my dad, along with every other solider on active duty. And as Usagi04 said, my mom is the leader of one of the FRG's on Fort Lee, so she happens to know alot of people, high ranking people on base. So on the deletion papers, she had alot of high ranking people to sign it, and one of those people took it to the general and got him to sign it and sent to The Department of the Army. Also, my mom is a FCC Provider (Family Child Care). We figured some reasons the DA would confim the deletion papers was that: My mom is the Leader of the FRG (Shes pretty much the only person who does any work around there, everyone else is lazy >_<), my mom is also a FCC Provider, My dad is currently in school down here in Fort Lee and he isn't finished yet, and the set date for his Deployment in November. I also would like to say that the only way my dad would get sent back to Iraq if we move to Fort Drum is if the unit he gets sent to is also getting deployed...I would like to thank everyone for there support and for also helping my girlfriend better to understand my situation.

So much has changed since the last time I posted to this topic.
The meeting was suppose to take place on Monday, but nothing was still known at the time, even though the Commander said that the company made the decision. On Tuesday, we found out that their moving orders have been pushed further two weeks, and there is a chance for his father to go on lock down. Lock down is where if your active duty and your being sent out to another station; that you will stay in your duty station and your family stays put until you get back from deployment or finish your assignments.
The movers were suppose to come Thursday and Friday of this week, but since the dates have been pushed further up everyday, they won't come until late next week. That means clearing house won't be for a while, and the family will move into lodging on Ft. Lee. They will stay there up to five days, and then it's up to NY, unless his dad goes on lock down. I just thought I would keep you all updated.
