Help searching for info on British Culture

Post by Cardcaptor Takato » Thu Aug 05, 2004 8:25 am

I'm doing some research on Great Britian and I need some help with it. Basically, I'm looking for any info about things like food or anything really that's unique to British culture. I'm also looking for info about famous historical locations and any info about popular modern places in Great Britian. You know, popular places where teenagers like to hang out or anything about any large malls in Great Britian. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated and if you abosuletly must know why I'm searching for this stuff, feel free to PM me, since I'm unable to give the explanation here as it would be counted as self-promotion.

Dan installed the new feature for a reason. Can we please limit all the "search" topics? I'm assuming that we're all capable of using Yahoo and Google.

I wish I could help you out, but I've got nothing as far as that kind of information goes. I don't know how many people here have been there, but I know for sure that Bob would most likely know something about it. Hey Bob! Get over here and help out our friend!

EDIT: Wait! Let's not forget about our friends on this board who actually live there! They must know something about it!

o___O; Bob visited Finland, and stopped in a British airport for a few hours. I highly doubt he would know much of anything.

Actually I spent the night there. So....

My knowledge of Britian is this:

They don't speak English there. Don't even try to talk there, you wont get anywhere (TRUST ME).

The food there is horrible. I hear the Fish and Chips is good, but in reality it's just french fries and fish sticks.

Everything is WAY expensive. Even though the Pound is worth about a dollar and a half. Everything still costs more.

They obviously have no idea how to run an airport.

Portugal kicked the crap out of them in the Euro2004 cup.

...But the guys were hot right? I mean, everyone knows that the most attractive men come from England. It's just common knowledge!

I did a report on British food two or three years ago (can't remember). I remembering reading that the food isn't exactly exotic, but I do remember that they make this type of...cake or cookie or sweet thing for tea. It was chocolate and it tasted alright (keep in mind I made it and cooking isn't one of my talents, so it could have been delicious and I just screwed up).

No offense to any British men on the board, but....

Peach, British men are only hot once they've started to speak. Duh. *smack smack*

Cardcaptor Takato, if it helps, Canada is part of the British Empire (apparently not many Americans know this). This means that they own us.

Animeguru... that's it, you've really done it now!!!! lol, only kidding. :) Say what ya like about the British, I don't mind. :)

Well, I'm English, so if there's anything you want to know, I'll see what I can do for you. I live in the South, near Brighton (you've probaly never heard of it, but it's sort of the stereotypical seaside town)Actually... there's something else it's well known for... But do a search on it if you want to find out.

Anyway, PM or ask me here what you want to know.

Maybe I should've mentioned this in my first post, but I did try looking through the search engines, but couldn't find exactly what it was I'm looking for. I did find one website about British food, but it was more about the history of food in Great Britian than British food and Peachvampiress, I already knew that Canada is part of the British Empire. I always thought that was common knowledge? ^^;;

Yes, Brighton is definately a very open town. :) I think the Pride parade is this Saturday, if my memory is correct. It's a shame I'm working that day, I'd love to go to see it!

OK... traditional english food... *opens cook book*

Well, there's fish and chips, of course, plus roast, cottage pie, toad in the hole, steak and kidney pie, black pudding, welsh rarebit, pork pies... alot of pies, as you can see. ;) Oh, and stews are traditional as well.

For deserts...Sherry trifle (delicious) summer pudding, jam roly poly, any suet puddings, apple crumble, bread and butter pudding....

OK, there are a lot more than that, but I don't eat that much british food, so I'm very sorry. *blushes* I can't be sure those are all originally from britain, but they seem to be dishes that have been around for a long time. :)

Of course I knew that Austrailia was for Britian to dump their criminals, but from what uhhh.....*scrolls up*.....Peachy said it gives the impression that Canada Austrailia etc are still a part of Britian, while I was under the impression that they were completely independant states. I know that they were all at one point a part of the UK (or England, or Britian or WHATEVER) but NOW i thought they had independence (100% independence). Clarification? *is so confused*
