2) No one's mentioned this yet so I thought that I should. Even though I despise rapists (especially child molesters) I can find pitty for them. Most child molesters/rapists were molested/raped as children themselves and didn't get help. Later in life these represed memories either internalize and ruin themselves and there relationships or externalize and they become rapists themselves. It's a very sick-sad cycle.
Yes, this is sometimes the case, but not always. Knowing this, do you have pity for ALL rapists, or just those who are unstable becuase of some trauma in their lifetime?

Anthy wrote:And R. Kelly had sex with an underage partner, therefore, the girl is unable to give consent. This is illegal. End of story.

I have no sympathy for molesters or rapists just because they were molested when they were young. Just because shit happens to you, it doesn't mean you're allowed to fuck up other people's lives.
I dissagry with the consent thing, just cause it's in LAW dosn't make it right or whatever, but that's just my personal thought. I'm 17, if I wanna sleep with someone I don't want someone else telling me that I can't. Sex is a personal disition and if I feel that I'm ready than that is my disition, however I didn't hear how old she was so my opinion might change.

Second, I'm not saying that it's OK for them to "fuck" with other peoples live's. They have mental problems and needed serious help. Let me just lay out where this comes from for me. I had a person close to me who was like 3 or 4 get raped by her step father. Rather than dealing with the issue her family desided to pretend that it never happend even though SHE has vivid memory of it happening and WILL have problems with this for the rest of her life. When she grows up she'll have weird memories that she dosn't understand and lord knows WHAT that will do to her. The psychi is fragil and some times without the proper rehabilitary help one can't help what they become as much as a normal person. They, too, are victems. (Again, not excusing, just trying to explain).

Indeed. But I'm in agreement with Anthy. Sure, these people needed help, but that was their responsibility to get some, and if they were unstable to the point that they couldn't, then someone close to them could have helped them.
I feel sympathy for the fact that they were traumatized as well, but they're just a guilty as a sick bastard.

I can see what your saying, and once they commit a crimanal act I feel that it's to late, but what about those who can't get help (like the person that I knew who was 3-4). By the time that there 18 there to screwed up to really do anything about it if they realize that anything really happened at all.

I have a hard time sympathizing with anyone who rapes someone else. But, I'm biased. My cousing, who I'm very, very close to, was almost raped by her boyfriend when she was a junior in high school. Luckily, she has redneck parents. She lives out in the country. Her and her boyfriend were going to take a walk in the woods. Well, her parents gave her a pistol, and told her it was in case of snakes (cause snakes are bad where they live). So, my cousin and her b/f were walking through the woods, and he tried to rape her. So she shot him in the leg. If her parents hadn't given her that pistol...

I have no sympathy for rapists at all. I feel sorry for you if you were molested as a child, and if you need the help. But I still think you should be punished. I feel sorry for what happened to you, but I have no sympathy for what will happen to you. Besides, we have enough "temporary insanity" cases already. If people are punished despite what happened to them, then maybe we'll get more honest court cases.

Well, she did use the pistol to fend of a snake in the end didn't she  . : More serious now : It's not "temporary insanity" they have serious mental problems and need help. I don't have enough sympathy for them after they've commited the crime to excuse them. However, rather than a thousand years in jail they could finally get the help they needed in the first place. However, I'm a person who believes more in rehab than in incarseration. Yes, punish them, but don't just punish them and then leave them how they were.

Yeah, we are REALLY off-topic. R Kelly and Kobe, please.

And the age of consent is there for a reason. It's not really intended for 17 year olds who wish to sleep with whomever they choose. It's for protecting children who might be tricked into saying yes because they don't understand sexual things yet.

Jed-kun, I wasn't disagreeing with you on the point that rape victims need help. I was saying that I didn't care what happened in a rapist's past; he has no right to hurt anyone else in that matter.

But that's just a side note. ^^ On topic. There's another topic on rape/molestation.

Here's a good question I've heard people ask:
WHY would Kobe Bryant cheat on his wife? I mean, come on. She's [slang] foooooiiiinnnnnne. [/slang]
That avatar is a self portrait. Really. Really. No matter how much it looks like D'Angelo, that's me. .... Oh, just shut up.

He got bored with her, maybe she's a bitch, maybe he's just sick. But just because somebody is beautiful dosn't meant that men/women won't cheat on them. Maybe he just consides her his trophy wife and is getting his booty elsewhere.

Yeah I agree with Jed-Kun...people have reasons why they cheat on their spouses/lovers that we just don't know about. Some of the reasons are horrible and cheap, and other reasons are deeper to understand (and sometimes can't be understood by others). None of those reasons excuse the act, but sometimes make it easier to understand why they did it.
