It is a capsule that you can write down a message and send it up into space and 50,000 years later it come back to earth for our future generations to read about us. Though i am going to write a letter i find it mind breaking about the i should write but for those of you interested the link is:

Yeah, I did this in school. I think it's amazing, how people in the very (very, very, very, very) future will hear your voice. That is, of course, if the english language still exists. Or the earth, for that matter.
My teacher said that 50,000 years ago from this time, the earth was in the middle of an ice age. What could happen 50,000 years from now? Maybe that's why they have in space, Jeff, so that it might not get destroyed by us, or future generations.
And the things you can talk about are amazing, and the range through all the different countries gives you a look at how different people think is important. Like one kid from the U.S told about how you make a pizza, where another girl from an Arab country talked about how her life is, and how she wants to marry into a good family. But I, being slightly messed in the head, ranted about the current political situations in the world, and mused if they would be any better in the future, if they even existed at all.

Mr. James : Lost a satellite on liftoff today.
Dave : Cost?
Mr. James : 10 million dollars.
Dave : Result?
Mr. James : Extreme set back.
Dave : Milk?
Mr. James : Spilled.
Dave : Gonna cry about it?
Mr. James : Not even.
Dave : I''m sitting on a rather sharp tack.
Mr. James : That's gotta hurt.
Dave : Well, life's a bitch...
Mr. James : ...And then you die.
Dave : My...

Yes i agree it is freaky. now it has to go into space for many reasons. First the letters are going to be carved into glas for it is the best type of storage device. Secondly there are less variables in space then on earth. Finally there are many ways for people to break into this "cave" and steal the information on the disks.
The explanation right above this post is exactly what i was thinking about earlier. What when the thing comes down and there are no people left? What if one of the letters cause World War # or the end of humanity? and What if this letter actually causes world peace? It is limitless in trying to think about what would change 50,000 years into the future.
Imagine if what we consider today as civilized would actually be barbaric to them.

Or, what if something even better happens? What if this is blasted into space, and actually found by something? I would rather my voice be heard by another type of lifeform than just a future human.

I just did that thing rite now and I just wrote where my family came from and never forgot who they are but really preserve my family's last name in a good way not a bad way! I think it's still weird!

I think it's incredible and amazing the way scientists and astronomers have created such a great idea. It makes us think though what will happen to the Earth? Will it be extinct? Will there be new life? Will there even be an Earth!? I hope the company keeps up with the good work and hopefully our future relatives can read what we had to say.
It was sort of fun to write mine. I used all 6,000 characters just rambling about random things. I think that if there's still life on Earth it's OK to use any words you want, because even if we do have another language that isn't english, my thoughts are that technology may be so advanced that the future scientists would be able to translate it. It's sort of scary to think about what will happen to the Earth in 50,000 years, but it's also sort of fun to think about the people reading it.
And I do agree with Parakisu. I think it would be more fun for another life form to read these than other humans - the humans may already know some of the stuff we talk about, but aliens may not.

Me: This is coming from the kid who doesn't know what Viagra is!
Ko: It's cold medicine, right?
Our Group: NO!!!
Me: Can I just say?
Dylan: Sure, it's no weirder than what normally comes out of your mouth.
Me: (says what)
Ko: .....What's that?
Me: ......*starts crying*
Carley: STEVE! STEVE GET OVER HERE AND TELL KO WHAT VIAGRA DOES!
Steve: See, it's like this: The bridge goes up and the soldiers rush out....
Tiff: Aww, you killed someone for me. That's so sweet in a f***ed up sort of way!

I think both ideas are neat. I don't care if anyone makes fun of me, but I do believe other beings in space exist. On these shows on Discovery Channel and stuff, everyone's heard about alien abductions and UFO sitings. These beings must have come from the other side of the galaxy, which goes to show you just how much more advanced their technology is comparted to ours. I remember one case where a woman woke up in the middle of the night to a blinding light. She went to her living room to see what it was and the beings used telepathy or something, telling her in plain english to go back to her husband and not to say anything about the incident. There's no doubt in my mind that the higher beings do know our languages. It would be really interesting to have someone or something read about us.ParaKiss_Groupie wrote:Or, what if something even better happens? Would you keep something like that to yourself? I wouldn't. It's something the world needs to know. The reason they have these shows is to let people know, in a very gentle matter, so that people won't freak so much in case if something major happens. The UFO crash in New Mexicao during the 1950's was said to be only a weather balloon because people would spazz if they were told the truth.Death_2004 wrote:Hmm that was interesting to read but if they told her not to say anything and that they are as you say advanced then why is she telling everyone about it.
