First off, I think the book was mistitled. For what we actually see of the Half-Blood Prince, the whole freakin' book doesn't need to be named thus. The situation is similar, IMO, to Sirius's death; way too underdeveloped. It's like "Oh, by the way, I'm the real Half-Blood Prince! See ya!" and off Snape goes. THE END. Confused what? Confused Hardly deserving of a title. Perhaps "Harry Potter and the Helpful Book" sounded too childish? My sister tells me that Rowling considered this title for both the second book and the fifth book, and this one.
I don't really like the direction the story's heading, either. One thing I liked about the series is that it wasn't really a "quest" plot. Harry went to Hogwarts, and bad things happened anyway. Now, it's simply gonna become "I must travel the land to collect magical things and vanquish my foe!" The idea of Harry leaving Hogwarts is unappealing. I understand that Voldemort has taken everything from Harry, but it's too...unoriginal. It's hard to really explain what I mean. I'm probably the only person who thinks like this anyway...Razz
There was almost TOO much romance. The idea that all HP characters have to end up with SOMEONE is frustrating. Maybe it's because I'm not very romantic, but I don't particularly CARE who Ginny's going out with. Ron and Lavender's pairing up came out of left field, but actually kind of leads into my own little crazy theory about who R.A.B. is...
I thought of this right after I read where Harry always carries the fake pendant around. I thought "jeez, I hope he doesn't start wearing it," which lead me to think about Ron and his gift from Lavender BROWN (a gold necklace with "My Sweetheart" on it, which he says he hopes she doesn't expect him to wear). Maybe a member of the Brown family took the necklace and pendant, and somehow Lavender found the chain? Consider, also, that Lavender, though she's played no major roles in any of the books until now, has appeared in EVERY movie. She could have easily been taken out, since she is downplayed a lot, (but "reintroduced" or whatever in the 7th movie so she could hook up with Ron)...perhaps this points to even more importance later on? Whatever. It's a harebrained scheme, and probably not right at all, but I like to think outside the box.

Yeah, I really agree with you about the whole thing with Snape being the Half-Blood Prince. Its exactly as you described it. There was no buildup to it at all. It didn't even really make sense why Snape would suddenly say that out of the blue, especially as a Death Eater. I think a more appropriate title would have been "Harry Potter and the Horcruxes of Voldemort" since that was what the real focus was on.
Sirius' death is a little more forgivable because sometimes people simply suddenly die. Sort of like what happens in the book "Bridge to Terabithia."

Some of the romance didn't really work that well either. Ron & Hermione was good, and Bill & Fleur was OK. But the whole Harry & Ginny thing was a little short. Most of it was just Harry fantasizing and probably 1 week of dating followed by the breakup. The whole Tonks & Lupin thing was totally out of the blue. I was like, "When did this happen?" I don't think it was ever even mentioned that they knew each other before Tonks declared her love.

Man, I don't know how Rowling is going to finish all the loose ends in the series with just one book. You have a quest for 4 Horcruxes, that curtain of death (from book 5), the whole thing with Peter Pettigrew (Dumbledore said that there may come a time when Harry will be grateful that he saved Peter's life.), Snape's betrayal, Harry's unfulfilled romance, the Half Blood Prince's book still in the Room of Requirement, and Voldemort's death. Finding and getting past 4 Horcruxes is hard enough already, and I don't see how Harry can pull it off considering dealing with one nearly killed Dumbledore.
GAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

You... you..... you people and your blackened SPOILERS! one whole page FILLED with them!!! I just started reading the series this last month, I am already on Goblet of Fire. Bout 3/4 done with it... then I gotta FIND the 5th book.... THEN i can read the 6th! DARN YOU ALL!

I had to work at Meijer (it's like a super Walmart) the night it was released. I"m a cashier... holy f-ing GOD it was NUTS! LInes going WAYYYYYY back people were lining up at 9:30 to get the freakin' book. after that fiasco, I'm like, okay i'm reading the freakin' books.

I was ticked that the director for the 3rd movie cut SO MUCH OUT! They NEVER mention who Moony, wormtail, padfoot and prongs are... though I don't remember who said it... Harry's Patronus DID turn into a stag. You see it the first time around from dementor drained harry, but not from patronus producing harry... if that makes sense lol. Lots of things are out of order, are cut are changed.... UGH makes me REALLY not want to go see the 4th in the theater... BUT I"ll jsut wait for it to come onto the drive in and go see it there WOOT for drive ins where it's only 6 bucks a person for two movies instead of 7.50 for one.

The 4th book is just so damn long, I am really grimacing over what they'll cut out. I"m not looking forward to it at all. Though I DO know they didn't cut out the Yule ball. Saw pix on mugglenet.com. Definitely glad that they wont' be cutting out the quidditch world cup either. :D very much looking forward to that. Quidditch has got to be one of my favorite things about the HP universe. I would TOTALLY love to play that game. I was very much disappointed in all the quidditch they cut out of 3. I mean even the house cup was cut out... when Harry got his new broomstick was WAY WAY WAY out of sync.... he got it for like Christmas... not after the finals...
Plug for my message board Im awful. ::Hangs head in shame::

I like Quiddich, but I think two rule changes need to be made:

1. We need a clock. It's just not right when a match ends within the first five minutes. Set up a one-hour clock and if someone catches the Snitch within the hour, play on with no seekers, give the other team a chance to get back into the game.

2. Fix the Viktor Krum problem, whereby you can catch the Snitch to cause your team to lose. If one team catches the Snitch but still trail in points, re-release the Snitch and continue the match. You should need both the points lead and at least one Snitch-capture to win.
Things I think Are Funny Early in the Morning: If Batman were a Smurf: "Quick, Robin! We must smurf down to the Batcave and smurf the Batplane! Then we must smurf the batsmurf so we can smurf where the Joker is smurfing!"

The Croonerism Spate (explanations upon request)
Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."
I have a thery! It's probably not true, but I just really don't want Snape to be evil!! OK! Snape is good, and Dumbledore knew that eventually he (Dumbledore) would have to die and Voldemort would try and take Snape to being evil. So they planned for Snape to kill Dumbledore if Voldemort ever came. So when Dumbledore is like "Please Severus" he is saying "Please kill me" and Snape has a sad look in his eye because he doesn't want to! So I think in the next book Snape really will be good! I'm not giving up on him!

And I agree the romance thing was a little weird, but fun! When reading the 5th book I really wanted Harry with Cho...and while reading the 6th I wanted them back together, but by the end I didn't really care. It's weird that he suddenly liked Ginny though. And I want Hermione and Ron to just freaking HOOK UP! Fleur and Bill, w00t w00t. But sad, he is a werewolf now.... And Tonks and Lupin?! My jaw just dropped! I was like, "Honestly?!?!!!" Oh well, I guess it's kind of cute!
Well, I'm a strong Harry Potter reading and a strong hater of the movies. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the Harry Potter Puppet Pals. Has anyone ever seen them? Funniest thing in the world!
Everytime I see an image, or a trailer, or WHATEVER I can't help thinking I'll go see that as soon as it comes out, even if I have to go early in the morning to save a seat, aha.

There's an IMAX theater around here showing Goblet of Fire at November 18 at midnight.

I really want to go, but I don't think I'll be able to get tickets. :(

And I thought Paris would get it at the same time as the U.S.

We're only getting it November 30th, it seems.

I'm going to try to get a ticket for a showtime next Wednesday, since I don't like being in a theater for something as big as this on it's opening day. Plus there's the fact that my Thanksgiving Holiday will start at noon that day, and my sister will also be out, and she wants to see the movie also.

My school did that too--it's a great promotion for the theaters--fill the seats for free and make back your money in popcorn sales to hungry students.

I'm set to see it Saturday with a friend of mine. I'm worried now at what they're going to cut, since we're getting into the long books now, but it is 2 hrs and 37 minutes, so maybe it's good.

My school's newspaper did an article on this movie, and from the fact that it's rated PG-13 that must mean that if anything, a lot of the important stuff was left in. By important I mean the darker, more violent scenes. The people who wrote the article had seen the movie (they got a special viewing as journalists so they could write the review) said that there were in fact quite a few of the darker scenes in it, but they were trying to keep as close to the original story as possible without making you be there for six hours to see everything that was supposed to happen. And as I'm sure everyone posting in this topic knows, GoF was so thick that there was no way the screenwriters could get around condensing it if they hoped to make it into a movie.

It's for students only. They make you sign the back and at the movie theater you have to show them your college ID. You have to be quick though since they go fast. The theater is having a special showing Thursday night/Friday morning at midnight.

jupiter23: I am so glad that it is PG-13. I do not want them toning it down, especially the graveyard scene.

XD that's so damn awesome. I wish our college did that (back when I used to go)

I'm glad it's PG13 too. I was worried that they might try to tone it down.

Highlights of the movie include:

Everything Neville. Specifically, "I killed Harry Potter" and the "I fucked your sister" dance.

Moaning Myrtle. <3.

Viktor Krum. I think I might love him, just a little. >>

The ferret scene was left in.

Again, Neville did the "I fucked your sister" dance. That alone is worth the ticket price.

Moody was brilliant.

Low-points:

Beauxbaton's was pulled out of that cartoon "Madeleine."

Madame Maxine has the worst French accent ever.

She's also scary as Hell.

Viktor Krum's bath-scene would have been much better than Harry's. >>;;

I've long thought that Emma Watson is too cute. She was frumpy in number one, but not in two or three. So, the full effect of "oh em eff gee Hermione is a girl" wasn't there. Still a good scene, though.
