Well, I was just thinking of Sonic 1. I don't think I ever played any of the others to the end.

SMB 2 was a nice game, but it loses a lot because it wan't in the style of SMB 1. Great ending to the game though too. One time I worked through all 20 levels giving 5 to each of the characters just to see what the "Contributor" board would say. It cycled through all four repeatedly.

Woah man. How could I forget Super Smash Brothers Melee? That game is just...............genious. I've spent HOURS on that game just playing by myself. Not including multi player mayhem. MMMM, smash Brothers.

But back on the Final Fantasy kick, I did forget to mention in my last post, that my Final Fantasy 6 (III in US on the SNES) is probably in my top 5 games. I love that game to death (it was my first RPG). Looking back on it, with 14 characters, two HUGE worlds, and how most modern RPGs fail to develop a cast of only 6 characters well, this game had a 95% chance of not working, and instead it worked PERFECTLY. Such developed characters, so much to do. Great great game. The thing I really love about this game was that unlike most other RPGs, it wasn't story based, or "big bad guy" driven, it was Character driven. They were the ones that moved the story along. While the game kind of was about "saving the world", it was moreso about your posse. The undying love for one another. Greatness.

I love smash brothers as well, both nintendo 64 version and gamecube version are brilliant and i never get tired of them.

I do like some final fantasy games but i'm more of a horror/thriller gaming person so i would have to love the resident evil series. Somes games like silent hill and alone in the dark are good horror games but nothing compared to resident evil.

This is a hard choice. There are three games that strike me as my favourites, so I'll just list them.

Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past-- Of all the Zelda games, I thought this one was handled best. I enjoyed having to go through 13 dungeons (counting the Castle both times and Ganon's Tower), I loved how you could pick up so many items, giving your near-complete versatility. Of course, the story is timeless. But I also liked that this seemed to be the one Zelda game where Ganon is not "sealed away" in the end, but is killed.

Metroid Prime: My favourite first person shooter/action/adventure/whatever you want to call it game. I think this to be a wonderful addition to the Metroid franchise, if not the best addition. The graphics were stunning (I mean, in how many games does your visor actually fog up, or get wet?), and for being an FPS, the story was played out quite well. I can't wait until Metroid Prime 2: Echoes comes out.

Final Fantasy X-2: Yes, it's pretty much entirely fanservice. Yes, it's a sequel to a Final Fantasy game. Yes, it's playable characters are only girls, and there are only three of them. But the game is wonderful. Bob brought up that Square likes to give you around three or so characters to learn about, but FFVI had fourteen and still you knew about them. And I agree with him, that's one thing that makes FFVI stand out. But in later games, it seemed like though there were many characters, you never seemed to know enough about them, especially in FFIX and FFX. They had potential, but were not acted upon. Kimahri's past in FFX remains a mystery, save that he was picked on by Biran and Yenke and they broke his horn. Okay, is that all there is to him? Quina joins your party in FFIX because s/he wants Zidane to lead him/her to food. Well... is that it? Is there anything truly special aoout him/her? FFX-2 seemed to notice that problem. And so, rather than have six characters and play few of them out, they focused on three and really mapped them through. Playing halfway through FFX-2, you know more about Paine than you knew about Lulu or Wakka in FFX. Yuna and Rikku are familiar, and aren't really worked on as Paine, but they are expanded. You learn more about them and the things that drive them. Not to mention, FFX-2 had an amazing story.
Lenne was the singer and summoner who died and who posessed Yuna through her dressphere; Shin__ (I can't remember the end of his name) was Lenne's lover, and he wants to destroy the world for what happened to Lenne and he. And all of this is seen through Yuna's search for Tidus.
It was played out wonderfully, and I love it. Besides.... fanservice = kickass *drools*

EDIT: PKG, you put "quote" instead of "spoiler", so I fixed it. I still caught some of it, but hopefully not too much ^^;;

Not only the number of dungeons, but the pacing. When you finished the first 3 and the castle, you really got the feeling you were at a turning point of the game. You got to dip briefly into darkworld, but after the castle it becomes a major plot point. I also like how each dungeon had its own access point in lightworld, but they never actually *told* you that. I spent hours travelling around darkworld looking for ways around impenetrable barriers (and using the Magic Mirror to try to pass them) trying to get from one dungeon to the next before I realized each locale was separate and had to be accessed individually.
Final Fantasy X-2: Yes, it's pretty much entirely fanservice.
It was? Maybe I would have bought it if someone had told me that. I enjoy being serviced as much as any fan.

The Legend of Zelda for me. I loved every game. I've even beaten each game with a zero deathcount (except for Zelda 2: Link's Adventure. I think that's impossible...) I love the storyline, the characters, and the overall gameplay. Everything fits just right for a video game.

I really do love Final Fantasy VII as well, as it is the only Final Fantasy game I have played. But I really liked the material system and the characters were very likeable. :)

But my favourite game would have to be Kirby's Fun Pak for the SNES. I believe the game was called Kirby Super Star in America, as that is what I have seen it called on other sites. I wonder why they changed the name for the Europe release... Anyway, it's more of a nostalgia thing. Kirby's Dream Land was the first game I ever owned and played, so Kirby has a special place in my heart. :) And this SNES game was so cool as it contained around 8 individual games, and is sickeningly cute as well. :)

I also like the Zelda series as well. I prefer the SNES game the best (see a pattern? LOL!) and I recently downloaded the rom of it as my SNES is currently lost in my loft. :)

I love video games, so it's hard for me to pick ^^

-The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: I-LOVE-THIS-GAME. It's just so beautiful...ahhhhh....It's brilliant. The plot is awesome, the graphics are stunning, Link is hot, the swords and bows and other battle items are some of the best I've seen in any game, the music is BRILLIANT. It's just perfect in every way.

-Super Smash Brothers Melee: This game ROCKS. The graphics are simply amazing, the items never fail to make me crack up, the music is great, the characters are funny. And so many things have been added to it from SSBM for N64, making it more unique.

-Paper Mario: Another one of my favorite games of all time. Mario is such a classic, and this fits the Mario games perfectly. The flat style makes it really unique and funny, and I really love the battle mode. Plus, those penguins are just so damn cute! ^^

-Soul Caliber 2: I played this game at my cousin's house and I absolutely fell in love with it. It's such a classic fighting arcade game. And the characters are really interesting, well-designed, and have good weapons. Plus, the settings for battle (especially the Japanese-style houses) are just gorgeous.

-Mario Party games: I love them!!!! SQUEE!!!! The mini-games are so much fun! I could play these games for hours.

Shooter: Halo, also anticipating Halo 2!! and Rainbow Six:3
Adventure: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
RPG: Any of the Pokemon games, and also Paper Mario
Fighting: Dead or Alive 3 for Xbox
Action: Lord of the Rings: ROTK

I think the classic SNES games are great. Super Mario World and Super Mario Kart were some of my favorites. I wish we hadn't got rid of our system.

*panting* Ratchet and Clank: Going Cammando. Bleess the good people at Insomniac for satisfying my Spyro-induced platform mania with the Ratchet and Clank series. I'm pretty sure, from what I read in that free Best Buy "Top Games Of 2004" thingie, that Up Your Arsenal (I love these suggestive titles) will rock my PS2 as well.

I love horror/thrillers games like Resident Evil! I would probably say that the Resident Evil Series and Halo series have to be some of the best games, but that's my opinion though :P . I have alot more than just those 2 series of games but i would go on forever if I did :D

Wow, I haven't posted in this thread yet? Wow. o.o;;

My favorite game of the moment would have to be DDR. I love the mix of everything, with using the great music, thinking out good rhythms to go with the music, dance patterns, it's awesome. It's also a good way to keep in shape, I haven't been too physically active outside of walking and jogging since college started, so in that sense DDR was a blessing for me. It's one of two games where I wish I was younger when it first came to be since I would have more energy and stamina then than I do now (the other game I wish I was younger for it's initial release is Pokémon, since it was hard in high school to find people to battle or trade with). I'm at the point in DDR where I can pass near all heavy songs 9 foot or lower (getting closer to passing the 10 foot Max 300 though) on single, and various standard songs 6 foot or lower on doubles.

My favorite prior to DDR was Final Fantasy VI (US FF3). Bob has already mentioned the two giant worlds and the big cast of playable characters working out to perfection, and I can't do much of a better job so look up some posts to read why I love FFVI so much.

Other honorable mentions include the awesome Super Mario Bros. 3. The game is quite possibly the best ever made, the undisputed champion of most sales worldwide, and the first game I have ever gotten right on release as it came out right near my birthday. The Legend of Zelda series is also near the top of my list, tie betweek Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time for my favorite of the series. Pokémon is high up there as well, a game I was waiting to come to the US for a while and made damn sure I got it the day it was out. Diddy Kong Racing is also high on my list, with the ability to drive three vehicles, different battle mode and courses, and most importantly, an adventure mode, something unseen in a racer. This blend of things was unique and worked out very well. The Donkey Kong Country trilogy was definetly great, and the Metroid series was simple awesome, Super Metroid being the best. The Sonic series was also good and high up there, and Chrono Trigger was definetly one of the best RPGs I've ever played.

I'm al old school gamer, the 8 and 16 bit eras were the best imo, which is why I listed so many games from there.

CastleVania 64. The graphics were pretty good and the twist endings kicked ass, plus their was a hot, shirtless Dracula at the end XD.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. What's not to like. The gorgeous music, beautiful areas (Zora's Domain, Kakariko Villiage, Fire Temple), kick ass ending battles, bitchin' combined Twin Rova witch.

Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. It lived up to OoT and surpassed it in some areas (allowing you to re-fight enemies and redo tasks over and over). Plus the concept of magical masks was very original. Although I thought the whole "Link meets people that are similar to those in the first game" thing was a bit of a cop out for not creating a bunch of new characters, but oh well.

And I have to agree with MarioKnight about Super Mario Brothers 3. I still have the four toys that McDonald's gave away 12 or so years ago when the game first came out. Plus I have fond memories of my mom playing that game for me (she's the one who taught me to play video games ~_^). I loved it when Mario turned into that flying raccoon thing, which I used to call the Racoon Cat. ("Mommy, turn Mario into a Raccoon Cat" XD). Although those things in the castles, the turtles that moved their arms around scared me and I always had to run out of the room. But I kick their asses now!!

Ahh, memories :wipes away a tear:

SMB3 had some awesome powerups; I liked particularly the Hammer Brother suit. I never could beat the ship with it on, though, and get the different message.

MK: out of curiosity, which mix(es) of DDR do you play?
