I was going to say something similar to that.
Magic and summons in FF7 are so easy to abuse. *Especially* KOTR. But if you use other methods of attacking it makes the game more fun. Personally I found FF7 easier than FF8.
In FF8 you also have limit breaks different abilities and magic. Almost everytime I played through FF8, I didn't use offensive magic often later on, but you could easily if you felt like it. And high level spells like Ultima casted w/ Triple were effective. Your stats don't go down that much from casting the same spell three times in a battle, if that particular spell is junctioned to something. To refill just draw more or refine it from items/cards if you hate drawing.

I love the Final Fantasy games. I've played and beaten them all. My favorite is Final Fantasy VII. Cloud rocks. I love Final Fantasy VIII. I love Squall. I know I'm probably one of the only ones, but I am a huge Squall fan. Cloud and Squall rock. Seifer is also really cool. I love his lines. He's so hilarious. He's a very realistic character, and his puberty line was hilarious. Final Fantasy IV rocks, and the Japanese fan translated version is really cool. I am also a Rosa fan. I think Rosa is really cool. I can go on for days talking about Final Fantasy. I love the love stories.

My favorite used to be Final Fantasy VIII. It was the best RPG I had ever played.
But then Final Fantasy X came out, and I instantly loved it. The characters, the graphics, the voice actors, and especially Yuna. I love her so much.
Right now, my favorite Final Fantasy is Final Fantasy X-2. Yuna is great

As far as Final Fantasy goes, I only really like the older games for NES and SNES. My favorite out of the bunch is Final Fantasy IV hard type. The reason being is because you use mainly strategy in this game and the battles are really quick; you either own the battle or have your ass handed to you. It is also the hardest game in the series no doubt (unless you consider Final Fantasy Tactics to be part of the series).
As for the newer Final Fantasy games, they have plenty of room for improvement as far as gameplay goes, especially Final Fantasy 8 (that was one disaster of a game). I mean, the newer games really just rely on raw power instead of real strategy. RPGs are boring when you have to spend most of the time leveling up by fighting weak monsters to be able to be strong enough to defeat some hard boss. They make it where the only strategy to defeat certain bosses is to just level up a whole bunch to the point where you can practically just kill him off in one turn. They should make it where there's a trick to beating certain bosses through skill and strategy, and you should be able to take different approaches everytime you lose instead of just wasting your time leveling up and then make every battle ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK HEAL ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK. I also don't agree with the elemental system. You start out in the game with spells like fire, thunder, blizzard, etc. and then later in the game you learn spells like firaga, thundaga, flare, and ultima, which make weaker spells obsolete. Sure they may cost more MP, but by the time you get these spells your MP is already through the roof, where you can just use ultima every time and not have to worry about running out of MP. They should have it like in Final Fantasy tactics where a spell like fire can be casted very quick but does minimal damage, and then Fire 2 and 3 can do more damage, but they take longer to cast. This is pure strategy and allows you to use all the spells on your list instead of just tossing out fire once you get fira or firaga, etc. Also, I believe they should have it where instead of a red monster being vulnerable to ice and a blue monster being vulerable to fire, fire spells should be able to hit all the monsters but do little damage, ice spells should hit one monster at a time but do a lot of damage, and lightning spells should do a lot of damage but hit someone at random. It makes more sense that way.
Now I would go into the flaws of Final Fantasy 8, but I believe that's a topic on it's own. Besides, Aya Reiko pretty much summed it up ^^

Aw, the flaws of Final Fantasy. I mean, there is no perfect game. There are always flaws. Can't do anything about it.
Anyway, I am looking forward to FFXII more than FFXI. I don't want to pay 100$ for a game and some attachment to play online >_> I just want the game...So now I must split it 50$/50$ with my brother v_v 'Tis a shame.
FFXII looks really awsome though ^_^ Based off of FF Tactics Advanced, the story and characters look very cool.
I want a new battle system though. I mean, there is always a 20 second nothing when you wait for your character to reach the point of attack, and the monster does nothing.
FFX-2 sort of changed the battle system, but it did have flaws.
Anyway, in short, Yay FFXII, Boo FFXI >_>

So why not buy FFXI for the computer? That's what I'm going to do. It's only $40-50.MonkeyDLuffy wrote:Aw, the flaws of Final Fantasy. I mean, there is no perfect game. There are always flaws. Can't do anything about it.

Also, and don't take this as rude, but for someone who's so broke you sure do buy a lot of stuff.

And all the computers in my house are really slow with the programs we have to have on them. The lap top my mom just got is new, but she scares my brother and I away from it by throwing shiny objects in the opposite direction. So it would be impossible to play FFXI for PC.

I love all of the Final Fantasy games, and I'd like to bring up a random topic. Does anyone else find it cool how American music has influenced FF games? Like the intro of the Chocobo theme in FFVII has the backround music to "Wipeout" by the Beach Boys and Kuja's theme in FFIX has the backround music to "We Will Rock You" by Queen. Also the Treno town music soounds a lot like "The Entertainer" by Joplin.

It does seem that way, like in FFIX, when you enter the Earth Cave, the BGM starts with a piano track that's identical to that in "I Feel the Earth Move" by Carole King.

Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

Final Fantasy XII
I got a copy of Official PlayStation Magazine at random in the mail, and inside is a short blurb on FFXII, and the first pictures I've seen of the entire cast.
I don't think this merits spoiler tags, but will add them if it's deemed necessary...
The majority of the cast looks alike. Blonde people who look like they might have stepped off a California beach. And the two females (Ashe and Penelo) especially so - they share the same face, but different hairstyles.
To be fair, they look good, realistic - but there's no diversity in the character designs aside from one bunny-girl (not in the Playboy way; this one is decidedly not amused and appears to be looking for a fight). And it's not like they haven't had time to do these designs.
I'm sure the story will be good, but still... a little diversity would be nice, Squeenix. You've managed it perfectly well in the past (Chrono Cross' bazillion characters, anyone?), so why not now?

As for the game itself, I'm not sure about it. It's dropping the turn-based battle system for the new "real time" system found in Tales of Symphonia and Star Ocean 3. I like the turn-based system. But, if the plot sounds good enough, it should make up for that. So, I'm going to wait to pass my judgement.

Is the real-time system in ToS and SO3 anything like the active battle system that FFX-2 used? If so, then I don't think it's that big a turn-off. That alone doesn't turn me off from the game. The OPM article doesn't go into a lot of detail about plot (which is good, as I don't like being spoiled), but what little it does mention is interesting enough. If nothing else, I'll give it a whirl on name recognition alone.

No, I loved the battle system in FFX-2. It's more like the system used in the .hack games. It's like, you have a party, but you set AI for the other characters, and the only one you control is your primary character. And you hit certain buttons to make your character perform specific actions. Square for attack, for instance. Then there are sub-menus you would use for other actions, such as spells or items.Ni-ban Neko wrote:Thanks - sorry about the brain cramp.ParaKiss_Groupie wrote:*mod mode* Topic merged with old FF topic */mod mode*

EDIT: KINGDOM HEARTS! That's the game I was searching for! It's battle system is like in Kingdom Hearts.

In the Star Ocean games you can pretty much attack anytime you want,. As Parakiss said other members get controlled by the AI. Those are the party members you aren't using at the moment but you can switch and take control of another member. You can't really do that in FFX-2 and there's still a "wait your turn" gauge.

Anyway, I'm a big FF fan. I've played all in the main series, besides XI, and my favorite is VII. Yes VII. I won't bother explaining why, nor will I deny that it's possibly overrated. I just think it's the greatest game ever made, plain and simple. FFX is my second fav, and FFVIII, while not a "bad" game per se, it was very dissapointing, especially since you could summon summon summon without the penalties of MP, which killed alot of the game's fun for me. I still like it though.
Oh, and SM fans should ALL play FFX-2.... get the special dress spheres and you'll ESPECIALLY see what I mean.
