Final Fantasy

Post by Lucied » Wed Oct 15, 2003 10:33 pm

Since the old topic got burninated...

What's everyone's favorite FF? Personally, I liked 8 the most, but most people seem to hate it o_O. The characters are great and it has an awesome story.

Oh, and Final Fantasy XI comes out for PC in 2 weeks, so we'll see how good that is too ^^

Final Fantasy VI is my favorite. It's the first one I ever played (minus a few minutes worth of an FF1 ROM at a friend's house), and to this day, I think it had the best story. Magic and summon beasts are viewed as a force that an evil empire's trying to take control of, not only does this sound pretty cool, but magic's one of the key elements to the entire Final Fantasy series, as well as summoning in some games, so it's nice to see them get so greatly involved into a story. Also, the music's memorable (I especially love Terra's theme, or that World of Balance remix of it), there's 12 different characters you could grow to love (one of them being a Moogle :) , but I wish Chocobo could be playable :( ), and some of the things like the rotating world map seen from the airship show how great the SNES was for a system of its time, and so long as this game stays available under Final Fantasy Anthologies (with Sony announcing that they plan every future Playstation to be compatible with all the previous ones, games like this can just be rereleased, no need to bother with re-porting), it can be an ever-lasting tribute to the glorious 16-bit days. OK, those last 2 don't directly involve the game but my love for the old days, but still, those reasons before it are plenty good for me liking it.
My second favorite is Final Fantasy IX, but for some reason, a ton of assholes keep bashing this game.

Mine is probably Final Fantasy VII. The story was interesting, sad and beautiful, a lot of the characters were very neat and interesting, the music was lovely and very fitting to the game and I love the graphics. It also has some of the most emotional and heart-wrenching scenes I've seen in an RPG. Final Fantasy VI is my second favorite, because of what an interesting character Terra was and the music was very good.

My favorite FF so far has been 7. I thought it had the nicest story, and the best characters. Plus, Sephiroth is the best bad guy ever! Sooo awesome!!

My least favorite FF is probably FF Origins. I like the original FF, but I don't like how Origins touched up the graphics and the characters. They look so.... bad. I just can't get used to it.

I think I like VIII the best, then IX and X, VI, then VII and IV (I only played a little of V and none of I-III, so I can't speak about them).

VII would be higher except for two things. One of them is the insane fangirl following Sephiroth has (I would dislike him for that alone, even had I not the following reason), and the other is that
Sephiroth kills Aeris, who happens to be my favorite character in the game...

I think that added to the game, actually. Not that I hated Aeris and wanted her to die, in fact she was my favorite character too, but it's just her death was so moving and emotional and added to the beauty and sadness of the game.
VI, hands down. I was so impressed how the writers were able to develop 10 different characters so well. The story was incredible and really got me on the edge of my seats, and some of the twists were very unexpected and intriguing. Also, Kefka's my favorite game villian, so I'm a little more biased ;)

I've played through all FF's, though I haven't beaten III, VII, VIII, and X (hoping to eventually get through VII, though). My favorite out of the series is undoubtedly Final Fantasy VI. Not only was it the first game of the series I played (and the first console RPG I got into), but it also had great characters and a great storyline IMHO. Probably one of my most replayed RPG's, up there with Chrono Trigger. And after that, well... this is the rough order from favorite to least favorite (not counting FF's I haven't finished)

Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy V
Final Fantasy II
Final Fantasy I

Nah, anything on that regard is a false rumor. There's no way (not in any version of the game) to
revive Aeris.
Yeah it was rumor. I heard they put it IN the US version. I wasted time trying out some of those things. :? The only way you can
revive Aeris is wih a Game Shark code. But I heard it sometimes freezes the game
Anyway my favorite FF is FF7. Even though my two favorite FF characters aren't in it, most of the characters are likeable. I love the story, and the battle system. It's such a fun memorable game. The sidequests were fun too. My favorite characters in FF7 are Aeris, Sephiroth, and Yuffie.

FF8 follows that. I think I would've liked it more if the story didn't start off as.... bland. Many people hate FF8 but most of the characters were cool. Especially Rinoa, Squall, and Quistis. I also like the battle system, overall story, the card game, and the ending is probably my favorite in any rpg

Then comes FFX. The reasons I didn't like this as much as FF8 are that the game itself was rather short. The sidequests take up loads of time, and for the most part I didn't find them as fun as FF7 and 8. Still I enjoyed the story and the battle system, etc. But the only chars I REALLY cared about were Tidus, Lulu, Rikku and Auron. The ending was pretty sad though ;_;

I have two questions.

1. How many Final Fantasies are there?
2. What number do you think the final Final Fantasy will be?

Me: This is coming from the kid who doesn't know what Viagra is!
Ko: It's cold medicine, right?
Our Group: NO!!!
Me: Can I just say?
Dylan: Sure, it's no weirder than what normally comes out of your mouth.
Me: (says what)
Ko: .....What's that?
Me: ......*starts crying*
Carley: STEVE! STEVE GET OVER HERE AND TELL KO WHAT VIAGRA DOES!
Steve: See, it's like this: The bridge goes up and the soldiers rush out....

Tiff: Aww, you killed someone for me. That's so sweet in a f***ed up sort of way!

1. In the numbered series there's currently 11, but there's a bunch of spinoffs like FF tactics, FF legends, FF mystic quest, etc.

2. Square's liscenced up to FF 15, so maybe that? I dunno =P

At least you're serious. Let's call one of my friends Aspirin, and let's go though a typical scenario:

Cele: Hey Aspirin when's the final Final Fantasy?
Aspirin: There will never be a final Final Fantasy now leave me alone I'm busy with important stuff here. *Goes back to looking out the window*

Me: This is coming from the kid who doesn't know what Viagra is!
Ko: It's cold medicine, right?

Lol, well I WISH there was never a final Final Fantasy =P

Random FF info tidbit: The series is called Final Fantasy because back in the NES days Square was going out of business and they made FF as their last hope or their "Final Fantasy", and it ended up doing so good that they just made more </Random FF info tidbit>

The Final Fantasy Legend games were really the first three games of the SaGa series (continued with Romancing SaGa 1-3 on SNES, SaGa Frontier 1-2 on PS, and Unlimited SaGa on PS2) in Japan, and "Final Fantasy Adventure" is really the first game of the "Seiken Densetsu" series (2nd game was "Secret of Mana", 3rd game (very unfortunately, since it's one of my fave SNES RPG's) was never released in the US, and the 4th game was "Legend of Mana"), so I usually don't really consider those Final Fantasy.

Other than that and the main series, there's also Final Fantasy Tactics and FFT Advance, FF Mystic Quest, Final Fantasy X-2, and Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles.

I liked VIII, but I got stuck and began to lose my SeeD salary. ;_; The I got pissed >: and gave up on it. Maye I'll play it again after KH.

I liked to watched people play 1, 2 & 3 (North American release. I'm not sure what numbers they are in Japan), but I never cared to play them.

VII kicked ass
VIII was fun but irritating when I got stuck.
IX I didn't like much.
X *loves it*

Speaking of Mystic Quest, I hear many fans disown the game as being Final Fantasy, likely because either A) It was made entirely by Square of America and not Japan, or B) It's sadly and pathetically easy. Most the reasons I hear are B).

To answer the question about Japanese titles, Final Fantasy I is I in Japan, II is IV in Japan, and III is VI in Japan. With the release of all the Playstation re-ports (which use the correct titles), and especially the release of FFII in Final Fantasy Origins, it'd be very wise for American fans to start using the Japanese title numbers.
EmperorBrandon wrote:I've played through all FF's, though I haven't beaten III, VII, VIII, and X
Hey, does anyone happen to know if Square ever plans on rereleasing III? As of yet, it's the only Final Fantasy from the cartridge days that still hasn't been rereleased onto Playstation or some other current system. It was announced to be remade for Wonderswan Color, but then it was canceled and they put FFIV on there instead. That really pisses me off because Origins is a re-port of Wonderswan's FFI and II (because an NES re-port onto the Playstation would be out of the question, but Capcom did do it with Rockman), and if III was just released on there, it could've been re-ported to PS and came to America as well.

What about Irvine?
