Favorite Final Fantasy Relationships

Ok, this is going back to a conversation that was held over two years ago, but I feel like adding my thought on the Cloud, Tifa, and Aeris love triangle.

[spoiler]From what I remember, you get to choose who you want Cloud to love by answering several questions from Tifa and Aeris. Depending on how you answer them, you go on a date with one of them at the Golden Sauser. If you do things right, you can even go on a date with Yuffie or Barret.

As the love triangle, I like Cloud with Aeris. Don't get me wrong, I love Tifa and all, infact I'm cosplaying as her at the next anime con I go to, but I like the idea of Cloud not getting with a girl in the end. And I think it adds more to Tifa and Cloud's character. Cloud loved Tifa when he was younger, but he joined Shinra and grew up. Tifa loved Cloud when he was older, but he no longer loved her. And sorry to all Cloud fangirls, but I can't see Cloud making a good lover. He's too distant. Tifa deserves better.

On a stranger note, for some reason I find Aeris's death sadder if she and Cloud were just friends. Hmm... maybe I'm just touched more by friendship than romance. So I guess I really don't like Cloud with anybody and I simply prefer him with Aeris because nothing can come out of it.[/spoiler]

I would have said the same thing. expcet you use words far kinder than I would have ever used. Plus all of ff8 felt convoluted and rushed. But that's for a different post.

Now that I think of it... None of the relationships in FF really stand out to me. There are a few good ones, like Locke/Ceres or Yuna/Tidus. But none I'd really call exceptional.

After just replaying VIII, I'm now going to have to say Laguna and Raine. Even though they didn't really get much screen time it was obvious that the two really loved each other. Maybe that's why I like them so much, who knows.

[spoiler]I still cry during the ending FMV where Laguna is standing in the field fondly remembering the night he proposed to her. God I love tragic romances.[/spoiler]

Oh God yes, definitely. I discovered a while ago that they're the most "real" couple of FF, and I just can't get enough of the Laguna, Raine, and Ellone dynamic. I think it would've been awesome to have FFVIII from Laguna's POV instead.

Another favorite of mine is Cloud/Aerith, disregarding the whole love triangle. (And for the record, neither were "damsels.") I've always loved characters like them together, and Aerith's spunk was something Cloud needed.
