Animal Crossing

Post by Celexa » Tue Mar 09, 2004 9:56 pm

Who else has played this game? I lost my favorite memory card though...-.-

I finally paid of EVERY SINGLE LAST BELL to Tom Nook and got my statue. I look good in gold! Character names, etc. etc.

Town name: Ometown (Don't ask...just...don't.)
My Character: Chibi
Friend's Character I: Asha
Friend's Character II: Kirby
Friend's Character III: Meris

And I named my island Jupiter Island, complete with a flag with Jupiter's sign and thunderclaps!

Also my house is way overcrowded.

Me: This is coming from the kid who doesn't know what Viagra is!
Ko: It's cold medicine, right?
Our Group: NO!!!
Me: Can I just say?
Dylan: Sure, it's no weirder than what normally comes out of your mouth.
Me: (says what)
Ko: .....What's that?
Me: ......*starts crying*
Carley: STEVE! STEVE GET OVER HERE AND TELL KO WHAT VIAGRA DOES!
Steve: See, it's like this: The bridge goes up and the soldiers rush out....

Tiff: Aww, you killed someone for me. That's so sweet in a f***ed up sort of way!

I played it. I thought it was okay, but my little brother was CRAZY over the game for several months. Even went so far as to pay of all four characters' rent entirely. O_O

I was addicted to Animal Crossing for months and months. I had my character's debt paid off, and made a bundle fishing. :) I kinda drifted away from it, though, and haven't touched it in months. ^^;

To tell everyone the truth, I haven't played it in about a year, but that doesn't mean I still don't love it! Personally, I thought the New Years party was kinda bad. It almost...wasn't worth it except you got a rocket from Tortimer, but you can't even use it for some sort of destructive purpose!

The funnest holiday to me is Thanksgiving. In about one hour you can get ALL the thanksgiving furniture from Franklin.

I also don't like Crazy Redd that much. I just...don't.

Can do.

Animal Crossing was a bad idea from the word go.

Miyamoto: "Hey, what if there was a game where time passed like it does in the real world?"
Yamauchi: "OMG we can so make money off of that!"
Mysterious Stranger: "Go!"

The gameplay consists of little more than running back and forth between NPC's who's only personalities consist of "talking funny" and pressing A. Doing this will give you ITEMS that serve no purpose at all.

A SHIRT? Saweet! Now I can do the exact same thing I've been doing, BUT WITH A NEW SHIRT!

Or house decorations. Yippee-ka-yay. Anyone who thinks that decorating your house in a video game is an enjoyable escapism type of activity needs to sort out their priorities.

So if I dont want to do any of that, what can I do? I can fish.

Ummm....no. If I wanted to fish I'd buy a fishing game.

I can dig for treasure!

Gee, that sounds fun. Too bad the treasure does nothing more than sit in a museum and doesn't help me do anything.

Animal Crossing is a horrible game because Animal Crossing has no purpose whatsoever. If I was that bored, I would play Rampage.

Furthermore, people who compare AC to HM piss me off. It's like comparing Superman 64 to Freedom Fighters.

So, AC is a horrible idea that translated into a horrible game and who's only redeeming quality is the ability to play NES games that I already own. Pass.

From the point of view of an animal crossing fanatic:

It's a game where you can build your own house, get your own furniture, and make your own life. As annoying as Tom Nook is, don't let it get to you! And if you want a stalker, Rover the cat is also there for you.

You can dig up things like fossils and shirts, and earn things, and collect them for a museum. If you get every single fossil, insect, fish, and painting you get the rare museum model!

I really like this game because it runs on real time, so there aren't any fourth wall breaches on how days never pass. Also, if you go on at night, there's nice calm music.

And Totakeke is rather cute. (He gives you music for your boombox)
Or house decorations. Yippee-ka-yay. Anyone who thinks that decorating your house in a video game is an enjoyable escapism type of activity needs to sort out their priorities.
Are you saying I need to sort out my priorities? I'm perfectly sane, oh yes I am...eep here come the men in white coats!

No really, I find it fun. I like being able to place furniture and move it around since it's hardly feasible for me in real life. (Have you ever tried to push something 10x heavier than you can push across a rather large room?)
Furthermore, people who compare AC to HM piss me off. It's like comparing Superman 64 to Freedom Fighters.
Truth is, I find it A LOT like Harvest Moon. In both HM and AC, you build your own life and such. The only large difference I find between the two is in HM you farm and can marry, and in AC you can't.

I've never played this game in my entire life, but I must disagree with you here, and I must also ask you as an admin to say these things with less offensive terms. Saying that someone who enjoys this need sto "sort our their priorities" is uncalled for.

Anyway, as to my disagreement: As someone artistic, I think it may be enjoyable and relaxing to decorate a house. It's simply for fun. There IS no other purpose. It's just like when I make pixelated characters/dolls...there's no point but to make something pretty.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

"sort out their priorities" meaning "you obviously have a house or some sort of living area in which you can decorate for real and not be constricted to a grid like system of ninetey degree angles and boredom. Why don't you decorate that instead? It would be more productive and opens the window to more creativity!" and not "you are stupid."

Perhaps I should have clarified, my bad.

Actually, quite a few of these members either live with their parents or have tiny apartments (such as myself). Those who live with their parents can do little more than move the furniture around in their rooms, and my apartment is RENTED, so I can't paint walls and redecorate. I can move furniture and posters. Woopie.

Sometimes people enjoy being part of a fantasy world. That's why people roleplay, or play video games, or play games that let them redecorate imaginary houses. It's just to escape into something pointless and fun. Not everything has to have some deep, intelligent purpose.

I find the in-game decorating fun because I really don't have much choice in real life decorating besides my room and the basement. Even within those limits, there's barely anything I can move. Downstairs it's impossible for me to move the desk around (Not without breaking something, whether it be some ornament or a bone in my body anyway) and in my room the largest thing I can move is my bookshelf. Since the only force it takes to move things in Animal Crossing is to push down on some buttons, it makes the options a lot more customisable (sp?) for me. With one press of a button I can add wallpaper to my Animal Crossing home, with severe begging with my parents and many hours of reaching up really high trying not to fall backwards and kill myself in the real world. I guess to sum it all up, I consider Animal Crossing my place where everything is my own and easy to do instead of accidently breaking my neck trying to plaster up wallpaper and falling backwards.

EDIT: I typed as Tiff posted...you are very right in saying that we kids that live with our parents have little or no choice in decorating.

YET ANOTHER EDIT: As far as moving things goes, I would have to employ my dad's help, and he's usually at work or doing other work, so it's very hard for him to get around to doing smaller things like redecorating.

I played it for a little while, and I must say, I found it addicting. It was just sheer mindless fun for me. I enjoyed being able to design clothes, decorate my house, run around and perform mindless errands. It was just pure entertainment. The way I see it, it's a mood game. When I'm in the mood for simple, realistic fun, I play Animal Crossing. When I'm in the mood for well-developed storylines and character, I play FF. I don't think Animal Crossing was supposed to be a well-thought-out game. However, I can see how it wouldn't suit your tastes.

Well you can live your own life, but the only way you can ajust your character's looks are knowing the correct order to answer Rover's questions in, and you can't decide what your house looks like on the outside, and there are special lottery days and you can build snowballs and such, but other than that it is sorta like a sims game.

A little late into the convo and in real time altogether really, I've started playing this game recentally. I've been watching a couple of my housemates and a few friends play it here for a while now, and was going to wait until I could afford the disc on my own (for the free memory card) but I gave in and started. For us, it's loads of fun since now we have three towns in the house, all named after our hometowns. Hugh has Sodus with a few friends in his town, Mike has Clay with one of his friends in the town, and I just made B'ville with no friends in the town yet. All of the interaction and such between people in the towns as well as between towns themselves is great. I just paid off the debt to my house and it'll be expanded tomorrow, and Hugh's going into my store right now to get that expanded, I already invaded his big store to get the fishing rod since I saw it was on sale when he was playing, this game seems really fun and I'm loving it so far. Hugh is also in the process of making a database of all items where, when complete, all users of the site can use it to keep track of everything they have in their catalog and such. I have to admit, I didn't think I'd be a big fan of the game at first, but I'm loving it so far.

Just a word of warning: The last debt is somewhere close to 798,000 bells. I find the best income to be fish, but to each his own. If it's summer and a stormy day with thunder-and-lighting, you can catch colecanth (sp?) worth 15,000 gold each. For these, though, fish on the island if you have it, there's more of a chance to get it.

What theme are you decorating your house in? I have future upgrades and I'm not sure if this is a spoiler or not, so I'll just say I decorate the main floor in whatever I want, no real decorating style.

Not sure if this is a spoiler or not, it concerns the upgrade after the upgrade you're on, if you've payed off the 19,000 bell debt and owe 150,000 bells.
When Nook gives you the option between the basement and enlarged main floor, choose the basement first. That's only 50,000 bells and the same size as the 1st enlarged main floor. The reenlargement of the main floor is some 398,000 bells.
