Madden 2004

Post by Specter » Sat Mar 06, 2004 11:55 am

I love to play sports games, and Madden 2004 is no exception. If you have the game, post what kind of offensive and defensive strategies you use. If you have the Network Adaptor also, post your name on Madden Online.

I like to run the ball most of the time, and against human opponents I like to use cover 2 man-type plays. My Madden Online name is Eliminator99.
He's got to make his own mistakes
and learn to mend the mess he makes
He's old enough to know what's right
and young enough not to choose it
He's noble enough to win the world
but weak enough to lose it - Rush - "New World Man"

I run most plays from the normal i-form and use a base 4-3 defense, nickeling anytime their are three recievers but sometiems dimeing if i expect a deep pass out of formation.
I run a lot between the tackles i dont realy have the personel for effective sweeps, and i dont care for them that much anyway.
I pass a lot to the slot and the TE. I prefer a ball control style of offense and only go deep when im behind or if i think i can burn the coverage.

I have a basic ctrategy for all football games that I've used in Madden. I build a team around a heavy offensive line and a big, sure-handed running back like Jerome Bettis. Then basically I play kill clock from the start of the game. Lots of gut runs, screens, and high-percentage slants and hooks. Use the 40 second clock up all the time. This keeps scores managable, makes the game quicker obviously, but also has an advantage I think real football coaches need to know: let's say you're down by 2 with 5 minutes to go in the 4th, and you're on your own 20. I'd much rather work my way over those 5 minutes down to my opponent's 25 and take a shot at a field goal with no time on the clock than two run a two-minute drill where, even if I score, my oppornent get the ball right back.

One of my friends never uses running plays. I mean, he actually says, "I refuse to run." So I take control of a defensive tackle and drop him back into zone coverage, and I pick him off regularly. He then accuses me of cheesiness because I don't act like I don't know the strategy he's told me he's using. *shrug* What can you do?

Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

Very impressive Sailorasteroid.
I can never get myself to use up the play clock to its fullest.
I guess i have too much twich gamer in me.
I build my team in franchise mode similarly. I never have more than one big play wr. I guy in the 80's and then a guy in the 70's is fine. The other two can just be return guys for all i care.
I dont care if my RB is big or small, fast or slow, as long as he can hit the holes and get the yards.
What sort of qb do you use. for your offenseive scheme?

That's one of the good parts; since I rely so little on the passing game, I can get a really cheap QB and free up cap room. All I really care about is accuracy, and all I really care about for my wideouts is catching ability. With the money I save I get good OLs and DBs. A good secondary is key to the strategy, since it makes the other team take more time on their drives as well. Also very important a highly reliable kicker, since I'm going to put him in a position to make the difference in a lot of games.

Well when it comes to soccer er football games in the states we can get some things that are primarily an international affair.
Foriegn market games do get ported over here on occasion.
Though the last time i played one was
Chavez Boxing on the SNES!

It's a shame that they don't sell as many soccer games in the U.S rather than the UK. That's mainly because the U.S ain't into soccer as much as us i suppose so they think they won't be able to sell many copies of the games.

Can we get back on topic, please? Madden 2004, not soccer games.

Madden has continued to improve, but what sort of things should be changed from 2004. I think the contract system needs to be reworked so that it is identical to the real nfl system of salary cap.
This would include changing how the offseason system works. The biggest thing would be handeling the june first cut rules.
