Dead or Alive
Having been recently addicted to Dead or Alive 2 on my Dreamcast (Lei-Fang *blush*), I thought I'd ask the rest of you about your opinion on this fighting game series.
"With this candle I will..set your mother on fire." - Victor, Tim Burton's Corpse Bride
I've played Dead or Alive 3 (PS2) and love it. Ayane and Lei Fang are awesome.
Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Umm... DOA3 is only for Xbox, no other system has it. You must be thinking of DOA2 Hardcore.
Anyways, I love the DOA series. Played 2 on Dreamcast for a while and 3 on Xbox, haven't played volleyball yet.
And yes, all the DOA chicks are really fricken hot. *nosebleed* ^^;;;

DOA is cool (well parts 2 and 3, didn't like the first one). Not really a top favorite fighting game series of mine but fun.
I re-bought DOA2 Hardcore not too long ago. (other copy stopped working all of a sudden). I wish DOA3 was on PS2. I only played it a few times two years ago >_<
Ayane kicks ass... I love her, she's easily my favorite character. Actually I like all of the girls in that game except for Lei Fang. And Hitomi who I only used once and don't remember much about. One more thing, Jann Lee and Ein are hot. Yum.

-_- no, I actually meant XBox, and typed PS2 for some inane reason.
The volleyball game is so damn cute. And bouncy. Mmmm, bouncy.

DOA2 had more bounce then 3 & Volleyball.
Decent series. I still play the games from time to time. Good mindless fun sorta like SSBM. Wish it'd return more to its roots though. The first game was great. Loved the innovative out-of-bounds penalty and there were far more unlockables in it then DOA2 & 3 combined.

Isn't that what the upcoming Dead or Alive Online is for? ^^;Luchia Nanami wrote:Wish it'd return more to its roots though. The first game was great. Loved the innovative out-of-bounds penalty and there were far more unlockables in it then DOA2 & 3 combined.

I find this game decidedly mediocre. Nice graphics, yes, love the bounciness. Good characters, too. But the engine is less 3d than rotating 2d. The game, once you get used to it, degenerates into repeated janken--a counter throw beats a striking blow, a throw takes precedence over a counter, and a striking blow is faster than a throw.
When I do play, I like Tina and Bass because they have throw combos, which do ridiculous amounts of damage.

For the record, since I might not have been specific, I'm referring to DOA2, Dreamcast version.LadyFlameSniper wrote:How so? You can't even sidestep in "rotating"2D games.
You can sidestep in this game, but not to any effectiveness. You can't use it dodge an attack or set up an attack of your own. The run function is so fast and all striking moves include a general lunge forward.
I'm comparing it with Soul Calibur, where range, scope (horizontal range), tracking (how well a move follows its target), speed, unblockability, and timing all determine whether a blow hits and how powerful it is. In DOA2, its pretty much dependant on the choice of the opponent, whether to block or throw or strike.
Ah, I was hoping to find this thread.
I LOVE DOA3 and XBVB (DOA2 Hardcore didn't impress me...). And yes, Tiff, bouncy is best!
Ayane's my favorite character, but Christy and Helena are badass to play as well. I can't wait for DOA Ultimate (formerly DOA Online) to come out. From what I understand (for Luchia Nanami), shortly after DOAU is released, they are going to release DOA 4, a new game in itself.

Wow, I'm suprised no one has talked about DOA Ultimate yet. This game is a must buy for any DOA fan, DOA2 has never looked so good ever and playing online is just plain awesome and a lot more fun with Xbox Live than it was on the Dreamcast. Also worth mentioning is that this game is stacked full of costumes, well over 100 to unlock, and they're very nice. Not to mention Hitomi is unlockable (as well as Bayman and Tengu) which is a very welcome addition to the game even though you can't play story mode with the unlockable characters. I haven't played the first game with Ultimate yet so I can't comment on that, but this game is already more than worth it with DOA2U. I strongly suggest everyone get it, and more iportantly, play me on Xbox Live! XD My Xbox Live gamertag is MarioKnight, and my DOAU profile is Narsk, if you see the profile Kera under my gamertag, that's one of my housemates, and I know she'll love to play with everyone too. ^_^
