Video games and anime sometimes tie in with each other, plus video games kick ass. =P Discuss them here.

Video Game Stereotypes

Post by yoshmaster5 » Tue Dec 09, 2003 9:39 pm

Anyone else live near a ton of these people? They act like Xbox and PS2 rock because they have shooter games. PC shooters are the best kind, NOT Console shooters. Gamecube has all the really famous series, Metroid, Legend of Zelda, Mario, etc... and people say they are, "Kiddy"

They don't realize their so called, "kiddie" games are the ones that helped revolutionize gaming, and have sold the most copies. Mario Bros. 3, over 43,000,000 copies sold. People think that the most succesful series are the worst. They think because the Cube dosen't have any "shooters" and a lot of "M" rated games it sucks. NOT TRUE. M and T games don't make a console. if you go say that games like Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball are awsome, you are an idiotic pervert. Because when you have to resort to making games that appeal to perverts, you need to quit.

the Gamecube has some the most succesful series on it. Mario Party, Mario Kart, Mario, Metroid, Legend of Zelda, Star Fox, and many others that are more succesful than Halo.

Anyone else agree?

That's YOUR opinion. So what if people like console shooters better? That's no reason for you to act like your opinion is the valid one. And those people who don't like the "Kiddy" games probably don't give a shit whether or not they revolutionalized the gaming industry. They probably just don't care for that type of game. Derek likes Final Fantasy, but his friend thinks it's stupid becuase he doesn't like RPG games. That doesn't mean Final Fantasy isn't a good game TO DEREK.

I game to have fun. I don't buy the games that get all the ratings or that people like you claim are great. I buy/play them because they look interesting, or they look like it's something I may like.

I love DOA Volleyball, and I don't appreciate being called an idiotic pervert becuase of that. That's way out of line. It is not just breasts bouncing. There's an entire one-person game to it. I think it's an adorable game.

It's people like you that make ME sick, not the people you're describing. You seem to think your opinion is best, and you seem totally closed-minded to what others may like, and if you ask me, that's the worst kind of gamer.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.

Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Isn't everything you just said a stereotype for video games? Cause it seems that way to me. I play the games that I like. I enjoy Final Fantasy, and Zelda, and lots of stuff. If I see a game I like, then I get it. I've never really encountered any video game stereotypes, except for the ones you mentioned above.

PERVERTS ARE PEOPLE TOO!!

Aside from that, who are you to judge other people based on the video games they enjoy? You sound just like the people you're criticizing!

Anywho... video games are ENTERTAINMENT. They're not meant to revolutionize you or to make a point. They ENTERTAIN. They make us HAPPY. And goddammit, if bouncing pixellated boobs make Tiffu happy, all the more power to her.

Agreed on both counts. Sorry, Yoshmaster. ^^;

And not to make things seem worse than they seem to be, this reminds me of a stereotype at school about the actual Gamecube. No one likes it because of the size of the console and its discs, when they didn't even research how much data those things can hold. Goddamn idiots... ¬¬

DAMN SKIPPY! *watches her pixellated boobs*
Video games are not meant to revolutionize the world (*Imagines Utena playing Tetris for a moment, laughs, and continues*), they're meant for enjoyment, and people have their own means and tastes of enjoyment.

It is true that GCN is more kid-friendly than the other consoles, it was even advertised that way in Reader's Digest.

And I say that perverted games ARE revolutionizing the world. More bouncing breasts, please.

These aren't stereotypes you're dealing with, just fans of a certain genre. I prefer adventure and RPG games because I like something with a good plot over action, but that doesn't make me an adventure/RPG stereotype, does it? No, that just means I prefer that genre of video games. Video games are meant to entertain, so don't take them so seriously.

let me say that while it is true that video games are mainly meant to entertain, that doesn't mean they shouldn't be tooken seriously. For one thing, if you say entertainment isn't meant to be tooken seriously, you've pretty much shunned this whole page and its forums, because a majority of us take anime kinda seriously.
Second off, did you know that video games are now being looked at as a form of art in Japan? After production of the Famicom ended not too long ago, a museum opened up an exhibit featuring a display of every game ever released on Famicom plus their boxes, as well as TV screens showing interviews with certain celebrities in gaming such as Shigeru Miyamoto.

Because it's Reader's Digest. I doubt they'd run an ad for a system if the ads claimed "more violent games than before".

Gamecube attracted me because of the low price and the Zelda bonus disc. Plus they have Resident Evil, Metroid Prime, SSB Melee, and upcoming collections of old Megaman and Sonic games. Not to mention the Gameboy Player.

PS2 soured me partly because they really refuse to drop the price(instead offering bundles), and I've heard the thing isn't all that well constructed. I know the PSX was poorly built(I couldn't play for over an hour, the picture would start jumping). If anything, I'll wait on the PS3, since it will at least be reverse compatible.

XBox doesn't have much going for it. My cousin uses his mainly as his own personal MP3 jukebox. They HAD Halo, which is now on PC. DOA Volleyball might have tempted me, but I got the calendar, so I see no need to pay 5x more for the imagery. But they do have Rare now, maybe that will help them.

PC gaming is troubled. hey may have the widest range, but most computers aren't built the same. windows XP is unfriendly to old DOS titles, and a lot of game companies are requiring you to have a Hardware T&L capable video card to play most of the popular titles. Those are expensive, about what you'd pay for a Gamecube. Assuming it installs without problem. I can't upgrade my machine every time a new game comes out.

One kid in school was saying this:

"When I get home, I'm going to go shoot some Japs!"

That just sounds offensive, even though I know he was talking about a Medal of Honor game. Just say you're going to play the game, NOT saying you're going to go home to shoot people. If there were Japanese students there, they would DEFINATLY be offended.

Yeah insulting people for liking certain games is incredibly closeminded. Never played DOA Volleyball but I have a friend who did. She says it's a fun volleyball game, and not all fanservice. I like the DOA fighting games. Well only DOA2 and 3, I hated the first one. Anyway my point is, I could care less about the fanservice. I enjoy it for what it is, a fun fighting game. People need to stop assuming so damn much. I constantly hear and see people dissing FFX-2 too just because it has fanservice.

Basicly it's showing how stupid people will be. That kid dosen't seem to realise that his precious game is on a console that was made in JAPAN.

OK. I'm going to lock this topic. This is like a ticking time-bomb. It's completely random, and I'm still not sure what it's about. So far, I think that this topic has something to do with Shooter games. But I'm not sure. Nothing has been explained, and it's an argument waiting to happen. To avoid the explosion, I'm just locking this topic now.
