Waiting In Line For Wii

Post by Jeff » Sun Nov 19, 2006 2:17 pm

This is a thread to talk about our experiences of waiting in line for, and hopefully purchasing, a Nintendo Wii.

I'm actually too tired to post my story so I'll talk about it later. Must. Play. Zelda.

3) Go college on Thursday 7th
4) Start Waiting at 2pm with my best buddy, 10hours thats easy my sisters done that before
5) Go home and play Wii for a bit
6) Go college the friday 8th
7) Become Empress (oops... watching too much emporer's new school)
Febby''''s here, the shortest month of the year, and in London the weather is random, so there

Derek and I got to Wal-mart at 4:00 pm, and were the first people in line =D

Derek sat in the tire and lube area (that's where they were going to do it at 12:01 am) with his little number 1 ticket from 4:00 to midnight. About 16-20 other people started to trickle in, and I came at around 8:00 to join him in line (I had been having dinner with my parents, who just arrived from TN earlier that day). After battling eachother in Tetris on our DS lites, we met this awesome older couple and shot the shit with them all evening, and the time flew by. =D

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

I got there at about 4:30... was 18th in line. One person left, so I got 17th.

First thing, is earlier that day I bought the CD of Lewis Black's Carnegie Hall Preformance, so I was listening to that a lot while I was waiting. XD

1. Studied Chemistry *test tomorrow*
2. After that, played FE6 until I snapped because of Hard Mode
3. *ALMOST* Beat Mario & Luigi: Partners in time. Only Bowser is left.
4. Played Mario Kart with another person in line. Had fun. ^_^
5. Started reading Shogun while listening to what would be the KJSO Concert earlier today. *American Salute & Thaikovsey's 5th*
6. Ate Peanut Butter crackers.
7. Played Advance Wars DS.
8. Bought the Console, 2000 points for Wii Shop, and Twilight princess! ^_^
9. Also had random talks about the PS3 havoc, and other random crap. and amused/depressed that people thought I was 12. *People sitting near me were stunned when i said I could drive. Then I showed them my lisence* XD

Sooo... yeah. Oh- I bought a Code Red... and I regretted taht when I was trying to get to sleep. WAY too much caffine and sugar in those things...

Um, you guys are lucky. I got to a Wal-Mart at 3:00pm yesterday and the line was already full. I drove to the next city over and found the same thing.

I ended up going to a Target 30 minutes away at 4am. It was FREEEEZING. I had a chair and some CDs. People in the line were good company, but I was still freezing all by myself. I saw lines all over town at Toys-R-Us, Circuit City, etcetera. I was number 30 in line and the store had 42 units. The line filled up VERY quickly after me, so I am lucky that I left when I did. They didn't hand vouchers out until 7am, so I was worrying the whole time that I wouldn't get one. Some jerkoffs thought they could park their car in the line, next to the curb, and sleep with their heat on. Um, no.

After I got my voucher I drove to BK for coffee/warmth. When I came back to Target at 8, I locked my keys in the car, in all the excitement of getting a Wii.

Zelda is owning my life right now.

Damn. That's crazy.

Damn. That's crazy. People wating in long lines, in the cold, for over 12 hours. I'd rather wait until things get less hectic. Right now, there seems to bee too little supply and too much demand. My brothers have already gotten their system, though.

Actually, supply for the Wii is going to be quite steady. There's going to be plenty of shipments all throughout the season to reach the demand, it's just getting one right at the start that it's tricky. PS3 is a whole new ballgame, where we're probably lucky if we even see another shipment or two before Christmas.

I got to Wal-Mart at 5:00 PM on Saturday. I was originally going to show up at 6, but I had a feeling that would be too late.

Turned out I was 16th in line. The ad guaranteed 20 systems per store. No more than 5 minutes later, the other 4 people got in line, so I just made it. I brought a book to read, but never got to it because I was talking to the people in line.

Now, I'm an idiot, because I only brought a light jacket. It was COLD that day. I tried to call people to bring me a sleeping bag or something, but no one answered my text messages. One of the people gave me a HotHands they bought in the store, and another person went and got coffee, and got me one. ;_; I offered to pay them, but they refused the money. After about 3 hours of this, I realized I had my work clothes in my truck, so I had someone hold my place in line, and I ran to my truck and put on a heavy long sleeve dress shirt and put on my scarf as a bandana to keep my ears warm. I was nice and toasty after that.

Around 11:30 they handed out the tickets and we could go in the store, so we all wandered back to Lay-Away, since that's where they were doing it. We "Oooh"ed and "Ahhhh"ed the games and whatnot they brought out, and at 12 AM they let us buy them.

So, if I ever stand in line for this again, I know what to bring... Yay Wii!

I envy all of your guys; I wanna play the new Rayman!

I've also been really curious about the controller; can you all share your thoughts on it? I didn't like the idea of coming home exhausted from work and getting even more of a work out from needing to use my whole body just to play a game.

I like the controller. The only game that exhausted me was boxing on Wii Sports. I have Zelda, and that's no more exhausting that any of the others.

There definetly will be. Though I don't know of when shipments will be or how many, Nintendo is poised to have 4 million availble by years end. I know at least EB Games and GameStop will be receiving steady shipments.

I think the problem in my area is that we don't even have that many WalMarts, so people from several cities came looking for the systems all in one place. Hence, the reason I had to drive about an hour radius out from my house.
