Favorite Console

Post by yoshmaster5 » Fri Nov 21, 2003 5:43 pm

mine:
Gamecube

I REALLY hate it when people say T & M rated games make a console. because they don't know a single thing.

E-rated games CAN make a console. *GCN, Sega Genisis, Nintendo*

my opinion though.

Ooh, this is hard.

I think I'm going to have to go with the Super Nintendo, followed closely by the Gamecube. I love the Gamecube and its games, but I love the SNES games just a wee bit more ^^;;

Well, I don't know much about consoles, but I think my question is on topic: for the ones who put their fave one, can you also tell me which one would be the best to start with (not the portable ones like the GBA or something) considering I never owned one except the Sega Megadrive ^^;;;;;; ?

Hoo boy...I've always respected the Nintendo stuff...and I hold an equal respect for Sony, Sega, and Microsoft too.

But the Nintendo stuff will always hold a place in my heart because I have PLENTY of happy memories involving those consoles.

I'll go with the Game Boy (all three generations) as my all time fav. ::hugs her purple GBA:: because you can take the games with you wherever you go!

Well, the portables are consoles too!

By the 'generations' of the Game Boy, I mean the following:
Generation Classic (the big white GB with a black and green screen)
Generation Color (the Game Boy Color; mine is yellow)
Generation Advance (the Game Boy Advance; mine is purple)

I played my Color A LOT; the Advance is gaining just as much playtime

I guess I have none. For a first console, to help out A.K., it depends on your games you like, strategy, adventure, etc, and how much you are willing to pay. I would say go with PS2 for a first.

Why I have none to favorite: I don't play my GameCube that much, not alot of selection yet, PS2 is more of my brothers, and I don't use it, my Dreamcast is fun, but not my favorite, the GameBoys, which I think arn't consoles, I don't play, and the rest, they are dead to me. I have played my Dreamcast a lot, so it is my fad of the month.

PS2 ownz. ^_^
I like it because I can get the most out of it. Not only can I play PS2 games on it, but also most DvDs and PS1 games.

I don't really have one favorite.. but for now I'm just going to say the ones I'm currently playing more than the others, so that means it's a tie between GBA, PS1, & SNES.

I agree PS2 is good.

It just annoys me when people say it is better than Gamecube because it has more, "M-rated games"

There are good series on it. GTA, Final Fantasy, Spyro...

*edit*
PS2 is my second favorite of the next-gen consoles.

For the systems with my most memories, I'll have to go with NES and SNES, but mainly SNES. Genesis and Game Boy, I played them when I was young, but not as much (in fact, the only thing I mainly liked on Genesis was Sonic).

All-around favs? I guess it's a tie between SNES, Playstation, PS2, and Game Cube. Currenly, Game Cube has a lot of fun games with long-time characters on it, Smash Bros. Melee especially. PS2 is the main place for RPGs, my favorite genre, but at the moment, it doesn't have as many good RPGs as Playstation (but I wonder if it should count due to the backwards compatibility).
SNES, well, here're the reasons most my memories are on it: it was my first system that I was playing RPGs on. It all began with Super Mario RPG (great beginners game for those who didn't have a clue what RPGs were but long-time fans of Mario, like I was), then I rented Final Fantasy III, then Earthbound, I ended up hooked on the things (sadly, I never bought any of them because they ended up getting hard to find. Final Fantasy Anthology for Playstation is the only exception). SNES was also great for platform games, and I found it to be a great way of playing the genre before it died on me (controlling camera angling sucks in today's platforms, and they seem to not have the great replay value the old platforms had, it just seems like they're all about collecting every star or shine sprite or whatever, a very tedious task that you'll never want to do again when you're done, rather than just go through some pretty fun stages and reach the end), as well as puzzles (Tetris Attack was pretty fun, though I'd like to try out the original game, Panel de Pon, sometime).
It seemed pretty awkward for me when the evolution to 3D came around. I mean, it went from pretty nicely done 2D sprites (not perfectly detailed, because some sprites, such as RPGs, were small and couldn't have a mouth and other things put on them, but I must say the sprites were pretty cute looking) to very blocky 3D models of extremely low polygon counts. Did anyone else freak when they played Ocarina of Time for the first time and saw Zelda turn her head away from the window in the castle courtyard? I sure did. Zelda's cute little 2D sprite on Link to the Past was way easier on the eyes for me. Luckily, stuff like the Game Cube seems to be making up for this with high polys, and most Playstation games had beautiful FMVs to break us away from the game's regular graphics.

So am I. Plus, the good series, like Spyro and Ratchet and Clank. Unfortunately, most of the good series from the PS1 have gone to seed, like Spyro, Crash...

I like the PS2 the best, as it has the most of my favorite type of genre (RPGs). Usually if I feel like just popping in a game and quickly getting into it, I'll throw on a Gamecube game, but if I'm gonna be there for hours, I'll usually play the PS2.

Hoo boy, that's a toughie...I love the NES, SNES and Genesis almost equally. I grew up with the Genesis and its fun games (Sonic, Ristar, Dynamite Headdy, Toejam and Earl, etc.), but the NES was the first system I really ever played, and the SNES always hypnotized me with its many, many fun games (Mario, Goemon, etc.), though I didn't actually get a SNES until 1999 (had a Genesis as far back as '91, and a Sega CD as far back as '95).

At the end, I'd say the NES is my favorite. A classic system indeed.

My favorites ever are SNES and PSX because they had everything ,and weren't really lacking in any genre.

As for more current, Dreamcast was the best for 2D fighting games so it gets my recognition. And PS2 has plenty of good games. The system itself was poorly put together though >_>
