If the Wii is really easy to develop for, we're gonna see some awesome games for it, if it's a pain to develop for, it's gonna tank, but looking at Nintendo's track record, they've CONSISTANTLY always had the easiest platforms to develop for.
The one thing most companies look at is marketshare. If they think something's gonna take off, they'll be there in droves. If they think it'll tank, they'll stay clear.
The system has an equal potential for disaster too. Ironically, your earlier point ultimately becomes a counterpoint here. How the heck do you design for that controller? But anyways. Back on topic, the name is still weird. But name aside, the system has potential to be freaking awesome, and blow 360 and PS3 out of the water (until of course, they steal the motion sensor design if it turns out to be a huge hit).
That aside, the name, ''Wii'', is one of the dumbest ideas I ever heard. Sure it's generating press... but nearly everyone is making fun of the name. They really should've stuck with Revolution. It's a better name altogether, and you won't be embarrassed to ask a GameStop employee if the have one.

Hey, you gotta Wii?
