Mario Kart DS

Post by MarioKnight » Sun Jan 01, 2006 10:32 pm

New mario kart = new MK thread. ^_^;; Plus this would be a good place to place our friend codes on here. My code is 493983-101626 for anyone who wants to play against me whenever I manage to get online. My nickname on there is Narsk, so don't get confused.

As for the game itself, great. Rivals the N64 imo for the best one. I've gotten all the golds on 50 and 100ccs, and have completed all the normal missions on mission mode (need to unlock level 7 still). Haven't played battle mode yet though, so I don't have an opinion on that yet, though the 5 baloon thing seems like a nice addition on paper.

I only have two quirks about the game itself. One, there's no multiplayer grand prix, which is a big letdown since it's fun to play that mode with someone and make sure that someone get's the gold. My other thing is that the AI jump between 50 and 100 cc is huge. Instead of easy -> normal -> hard, it's like easy -> almost hard -> hard.

WiFi is nice, played a round at Kait's dad's place and kicked ass. I need to get a USB adapter though so I can play online more often. Anyways, post your friend codes here so we can all have a big MK fest sometime. XD

I think I know why you call yourself MarioKnight. Correct me if I'm wrong. Because you're a Mario fan. I'm an old time Sonic fan.

I haven't played Mario Kart DS, yet. I'll be sure to give my thoughts on it if I ever should happen to play it.

Got it, haven't gone to Wi-Fi yet, since I got it yesterday.
one thing I can say, is that the difficulties are a lot harder than the GCN MK, and teh N64 one. seems fimilar to GBA.

I do have a user-name though, but it's in Katakana so I can't post here. :P

The AI is pretty mean in this but it doesn't seem ANYWHERE as hard as the GBA version. That was just brutal, and I couldn't steer at all with anyone.

My name on my DS is Sylph (couldn't see that one coming :p), I haven't been online though so I don't have a code yet.

agreed... I never did anything harder than 50cc on that, plus they should have put a different level in. Sky Garden = hell.

Here's my emblem: Tails. :) and a sword above him.

I didn't think it was all that hard, you just need to find a ringer or two to win all the races. I found I could usually dominate the 100cc and 150cc races with either Dry Bones w/ Dry Bomber or Yoshi w/ Egg.

I've unlocked everything except the level 7 missions. For some reason, I don't think I'll be accomplishing that anytime soon.
You seem like the kind of person who'll lie.
However... this sword doesn't lie.

Yeah, I've got everything unlocked but the level 7 missions too, which may be a while. >.<

Last night at my parents' I got to play on WiFi since they have a wireless router. Pretty nifty, though I have a couple quirks about it. The smaller one is just gripes about the interface and the inability to add people you just played against as friends and whatnot, but I will chalk that up to Nintendo's inexperience with online, though they've had lots of time to polish up their knowledge of it. Second which is a big kicker for me, is that you can only race on a select amount of courses. Not all of the tracks are playable over WiFi which is a HUGE letdown for me. I didn't really expect battle mode to be playable over wifi but it would've been nice to have. I also think that they could have up to 8 players race at a time instead of just 4. Online with wifi is a good step for nintendo, but really, I expected a lot more from them.

I bought the game on Boxing Day (Dec 26). I think it's the best Mario Kart game so far. A few days ago, I rented Mario Kart: Double Dash, and I found it disappointing. We never got to play that game as Toad! Since the original Super Mario Kart, I've always played as Toad. His acceleration and handling is superb, IMO.

Right now, I got all gold starred cups on 50CC. There's still some courses that I want to go back and get the gold star. I havn't even touched 100 CC or 150 CC yet. As far as the missions go, I'm still stuck on the first level. I got two gold stars on all of them expect for mission 8. I can't even pass that mission! How on earth do you preform a double turbo turn?! I've never ever been able to preform one on any of the versions of Mario Kart!

I finally mastered the double turbo turn! It's only because I went to a local Japanese festival on Saturday. I met someone there who also had a Nintendo DS, so we sat in a corner by ourselves and played Mario Kart like nerds. ... and my ass was kicked almost every time because I hadn't mastered the double turbo turn. So my new friend taught me how. With some more practice at home, I finally got it and I finished level one of the missions and unlocked level two.

EDIT: Yosh, I think your link is causing some crazy horizontal scrolling here :\

I can finally connect to Wi-Fi! My friend code is 317902-216819

EDIT: I'm not sure if that friend code is correct, but that number appears as my mac address. I noticed that I can't enter letters when I register friend codes, so o_O My emblem appears as Ness from Earthbound with a yellow background and a black border. My screen name is Michiko in hiragana.

EDIT: Numbers corrected. I have inputted my real friend code.
