How many of you have this game?
I think this game is really cute and fun and I've even bought my friend a copy as a Christmas present. It's the latest virtual pet out there I think.
One thing I like about this game is convience. I had a few Tamagotchi growing up, and while you can pause it, when the batteries die, your game is over. It's nice to see Nintendo provide it as a game cart to avoid that.
However, the downside of this game is that it tends to get boring fairly quickly I find, especially if you're into games that have more action.
Your thoughts?

I haven't actually played it yet minus testing it out in stores... but I've been drooling/aww-ing over it since I first saw it come out. I don't have a DS but I am hoping to get one for Christmas so I've been hinting heavily at getting this game finally
Those digital puppies are freakin adorable. Especially the hot-dog (dachshund? sp.), he's the cutest little thing I've ever seen.

I currently have a beagle and a dachshund! I named the beagle うさぎ (Usagi, lmao) and the dachshund コーヒー (Koohii, Japanese for Coffee).
I named Usagi at a spur of the moment, because I couldn't think of another name for her.
I love how the game supports Japanese text imput for once. That option has always been taken out of Nintendo games when they were translated in English in the past.
I want to get the Japanese version of the game at some point. We can get it at www.play-asia.com. I was looking at the screencaps, and while the English version supports Japanese text, they changed the appearance of the selection screens. WHY?

I got Nintendogs for Christmas (thank you Dan <3)
My dog right now is a black/brown dachshund named Paco... named after my real dog, who is a mix of chiuahua and terrier methinks. I'm working on getting trainer points and stuff.
This game is adorable. I love it, and its nice for me who loves animals but is allergic to them very severely (Paco stays with my parents
). ;_; The voice input is annoying though, the dog doesn't understand my commands and stuff a lot of the time and often doesn't hear me call it. Other than that and the repetitiveness that obviously comes with any virtual pet-type game, its great

If your dog is getting confused by your commands, put the mic sensitivity to a low setting if there's a lot of noise going on in your house. Or you could try turning off your TV, etc if possible. Adjusting the mic sensitivity is a big help I find.Sylphiel wrote:I got Nintendogs for Christmas (thank you Dan <3)

I was tempted to get this game once, but knowing the mic is a required part of the game turned me off. Unless, is there's an option to disable it entirely?RoastedTwinkies wrote:If your dog is getting confused by your commands, put the mic sensitivity to a low setting if there's a lot of noise going on in your house. In other words, I wouldn't be caught dead using the mic (for most DS games), and this game isn't an exception.
You seem like the kind of person who'll lie.
However... this sword doesn't lie.

There's no way to disable the mic mode, but you don't have to use it. I don't use it much, and I never use it in front of other people. I find it embarassing.Aya Reiko wrote:I was tempted to get this game once, but knowing the mic is a required part of the game turned me off. Unless, is there's an option to disable it entirely?

Haha, yeah the mic is embarrassing... I only use it when I'm alone or around people I'm really close with.
Update - I have my second dog, a female pug named Imi (entered in hiragana input just because I can :p) ... her name actually came about as a joke because one night Dan and I had been talking about the game and then for some reason mentioned internet "memes", and when he said meme it sounded like "eemee"... I thought it was cute so I decided to name my next dog that ^^;;
...She's *really* lazy though.
Always lounges around and sleeps, doesn't like to play much at all, and stops constantly on walks which is annoying. :/ Another in-game trainer described her as "a very mellow pug". Couldn't agree more ^^;
Paco can walk really far now and obeys commands pretty well. Turning the mic sensitivity down helped a bit. He's well behaved and moderately playful.
I still havent' figured out the competitions fully, I'm terrible at the disc one and haven't even touched the others.

Re: Nintendogs
A friend of mine sent me Nintendogs for Christmas, and I got hooked.
I have a beagle named Lulu. ^^
She's really responding well to training via voice command, and placed first in the first obedience contest I entered her in.
The voice input isn't bad, IMO - I think the mic's more sensitive here than it is in other games that require it. It's required, but it doesn't make you do anything as silly as either Feel the Magic or Wario Ware's mic games. ^^;

Well we got robbed a couple of months back, and they stole my GBA SP, so I got to choose what to replace it with, which was a DS.
I really liked Nintendogs at first, and then I just sort of stopped playing it. I thought my dogs would run away, but then my friend got nintendogs for X-mas and we did the bark-mode thing where you can play with each other's dogs. It got me really interested in the game again, and now I can't stop playing it! XD
Has anybody found the fireman's hat yet? If you find it you can get little dalmation puppies!
Edit: Forgot to mention my dogs! My first dog I got was a Husky, which I named Dana for some odd reason. It fits her though! She's gorgeous, and very good at the disc competitions.
Then I went and bought a Golden Retriever, which I named Duchess. She seems to really like the other neighbourhood dogs, because they always seem to be making friends and such. I recently trained her up to be in that agility contest thing, and she took first place!
After that I decided to get ANOTHER dog (which I'm kinda regretting now having so many dogs!), which is an adorable little black pug called Rex. He doesn't do much, but I'm thinking of putting him in the obedience trials.

I don't own the game for myself, but I played my step brothers Nintendogs game, and I gotta tell ya, it's one of the cutest portable games I think I've ever played.
My step brother had a miniture weiner dog type, and I named him Murray (although my step brother had already named him Precious, but didn't actually give him the name and save it like that). I didn't get very far before I had to give it back, I did manage to teach him how to sit though.
While I do think the game is adorable, it was jsut kind of like having an uber advanced Tamagotchi with a dog.... So yeah, I did get bored with it rather quick. But it was a time passer, and it's still cute dang it! XD

Update on my Nintendogs:
I'm finally starting to make money.
Paco is getting really good at the disc competitions, and he's in the Championship now. I'm still bad at making 10 point throws but when I actually do he's just great at catching them and running back really fast.
Imi is still lazy as heck, and she always stops constantly on walks. It's very irritating. But she's cute and likes to cuddle with Paco. ^_^
I got a new husky named Dan
He is extremely hyperactive, and somewhat of a bully to the others at times. He loves attention though and is always trying to get it. He's not very good at the discs so I think I might make him enter the Agility contests.

This doesn't have anything to do with the game, but it pertains to Nintendogs merchandise. My order from Play Asia came in yesterday. I ordered a navy blue Nintendogs case for my Nintendo DS. It's a dark navy denim case with a white Nintendogs logo and pup printed on the front. The inside of the case is white and it has room for two GBA games or three Nintendo DS games. It's just adorable! A must have for any Nintendogs fan!
Nintendogs case
... and I just noticed that they're out of stock now. I guess you'll have better luck finding it on ebay :\

LMAO. Nintencats.
I can see it now!
"Come play Nintencats! Call your kitty and watch it completely ignore you! Be sure to feed it EXACTLY when it wants to be fed, or else be ready for one moody nintencat! And make sure to carry your DS with you all the time! Nintencats will randomly turn your DS on and force you to play right there! No matter if you're in a meeting, a class, presenting something to the board of directors! Remember, your nintencat works on HER schedule, not YOURS. Nintencats! =D!!!!!"
LOL, I don't know if the concept would work as well. =P
As far as Nintendogs goes. I got the game, had a cute puppy named Nini. She was really good in the Obedience trials. Then I just really bored and figured I'd never play again, so I took it back. Oh well. Bye bye Nini! The thing that really turned me off was when I got 2 new dogs and then Nini just wouldn't pay attention to me anymore and it became super hard to teach her tricks. Roar. It's a really cute and charming game, it's just not my style. ^^;;
