DDR Ultramix is the only DDR game currently availble for X-box, and was released only this past November. You can either buy the game itself or in a bundle with a Konami Dance pad. If you have X-Box Live, then you can download the monthly song packs ($5/pack but worth it) as well as play people online. Fun stuff, you should definetly pick it up.

W00T! I thought for a while I was going to have to wait longer for Extreme to come out over here. It's great to hear that it's coming in the early fall, though I wish it could be before the fall semester started up, oh well.

Are you allowed to order things off the Internet? If so, then search for DDR Ultramix online.
No, unfortunately. Even if I could, DDR would be the last thing I'd order, their's about a million other things I want that can only be bought of the internet.
As far as pads go, I'm not sure about the kind of pads for the X-box. I play on Ignition pads which run about $100 a piece, but they're for the PS2. The kind you get really should depend on how much you play and how good you are. For instance, if you've just started, I suggest the Mad Catz pads. Depending on how you play, they last a varying amount of time. If you stomp hard, they might last a month. But if you play lightly, they'll last. Now, eventually they will break. But then you can decide if you really want to shell out money for good pads
I've played an arcade version of DDR and S.U.C.K.E.D :( My problem is that when I look at the screen I can't see where to step and end up missing the arrows, that and when I do hit them, they don't always work (POS!!).

$100 a pad! Hell with that, that's about $250 Canadian. T_T it's not fair, I want to play DDR in my house and online.

I know how you feel. lol I can play decent at home on my computer simulator version of DDR (which maybe you can get if you're interested) as well as on a Playstation/Playstation 2 version but when I'm in the arcades I really suck @$$. This summer I'm taking two classes and in between classes I have like 2-3 hours free so I'll go to town and play alotta DDR on the machine they have (given than they've fixed it since the last time I was there). My parents don't know that I'll be doing that, but what they don't know won't hurt them ^_^;; I've gotten so used to the raised surface of my home pads that when I play on the arcade machine the "holey" pads don't feel right. Peach: If you're interested in the computer simulator version of DDR let me know. I'll let you know where to get the program, songs, etc. There's even an accessory that allows you to connect a DDR pad to your computer. It's only available to buy online... and I know that you're not allowed to get anything online, but I just wanted to let you know that it exists in case you have the chance to order it.

As Karoake Revolution Vol. 2 came out today, I thought I'd post a link to the song list.

I for one, will be buying this as soon as I buy a PS2 of my own (My father owns one, but since I'm going off to college in about a month, I have to buy one of my own).

Ah, this week will be a good DDR week for me. There are two DDR nights this semester, so Monday I'll be bringing the Xbox for some Ultramix action with all six songpacks, then Tuesday is the release of DDR Extreme which means I'm taking over the livingroom all night to play, then Wednesday is DDR night #2 and I'll be bringing Extreme over to it which I'm sure they'll love since it'll be something new and I'll have already unlocked a lot by then. And to add on top of all that, any day now we're recieving an upgrade kit to make our machine at the arcade go from MAX2 to Mega Mix, which just kicks ass.

Well, since Konami apparently thinks that release date = ship to the stores date, I got Extreme on Wednesday. So after playing some on campus last night, and a lot of hours tonight on controller since my universal pad kicked the bucket, I can write out a full honest opinion of the game.

I would say that this mix is the best US mix released to date. It starts off with just over 40 songs availble, and a very good mix of songs I feel. Some good selections from previous mixes and from the japanese mixes, as well as a slew of licensed songs ranging from the 70s to the early 90s. Grading is not like US MAX and MAX2, it's like the arcade mixes, with an addon of a * to your grade if you full combo a song, which is a welcome addon to me. Things are unlocked after every 5 or 10 songs played, so you get new songs fairly quickly for a short while. In this mix, you get to choose your dancers on the screen again before each round, something absent since Konamix (though MAX2 is arguable). More positive things is a lot of game modes. Besides the standard game, workout, training, and other modes in all DDR games, there's also a mission mode that's eventually unlocked where there are various challenges to do, which for the most part are challenging after the first batch, though I don't like the ones where you have to get a low score or finish with the dance meter at 10% or shit like that. There's also a nonstop mode for batches of 4 songs, and challenge mode for the expert players with the battery life bar.

Last night on campus, someone had the EyeToy, so we used it for a bit. We had it set to watch ourselves as we play, which was fun for a bit. Then just so we could say we did, we tried out the party games, which were decently fun. However, the novelty wore off fairly quickly. Honestly, it's pretty much a waste of space having that stuff on there because it's only good for a quick play and little replay value.

Onto other negatives, I have to complain about the interface of most of the game. I love the new interface of the game screen itself, the main menu is fine, as with the character select screen, everything else sucks. This is an example of when change is bad, my biggest beef being the song select screen. I can't really describe it well, but I'm sure you can find screencaps everywhere. The new interface of it takes off some key items, most notably the radar which rates the different aspects of the songs. The only positive thing about the new interface is being able to see the top grades and foot-level for each difficulty level on the screen at the same time. No way to see any modifers that have been set, no rader, and you can only see 7 song titles on the screen at a time. Not to mention that the listing of the songs is in alphabetical order by default, so there's no need for an ABC listing of them. Piss poor interface.

If the rumors I hard were true, that the interface had to change for the EyeToy, I'd have to say it's bull. Before the game was release, I would believe it, but since the EyeToy stuff is only availble in Party Mode, meaning there's no need to change the interface for it, not to mention that even IN that mode you don't use the damn thing to navigate through menus. Konami did a good job in filling this disc right up with all the modes, around 70 total songs, and the best resolution on a US PS2 DDR game yet. Had they decided to not do anything with the EyeToy and use the space for more songs and the JPN Extreme interface, I'd say that this mix would be damn near perfect. I'm all for experimenting with new things and see how well they do, but as most feared the EyeToy functionality just doesn't work out well for too long as with the rest of the party mode and should be kept off the DDR series.

Another thing I like is that the information section goes a bit farther than normal with each song page having a chart of all the US mix logos minus Ultramix where they're all darkened except the logos of the mixes where the song appeared in. Pretty nifty.

Overall, even with the shitty interfaces, this game is well worth the money. Lots of songs, good variety of music, lots of game modes, this is a great mix and I recommend it to everyone.

If you like the DDR Extreme US release then you'll be happy to hear that they're releasing a new mix in Japan this November called Dance Dance Revolution: DDR Festival. You might as well call it the "US DDR Extreme" because I hear it's going to have many of the same features etc. Check it out at http://www.ddrfreak.com

WooHoo! I purchased DDR Extreme today and of course I was playing it for a couple of hours. I had to wait to tell my friends about the newly purchased game because.... well as soon as I got home I went straight to my Ps2. But I know they understood. Over all it ok...but I just wish it had more of the songs from the arcade. My favorite song is "Move your Feet" by Junior Senior ^^ *dances to it non stop*

This week marks the release of DDR Ultramix 2 for the Xbox. Not sure of the date though, since normally new games would be out on a Tuesday, however the date listed for this game is on Thursday, but as we've seen (and heard me bitch a lot about =P ) with DDR Extreme that Konami's dates means days they ship out products out to retailers, meaning the game might not be availble until Friday, but since I don't have it ordered yet and pretty much expect it to not be out on a normal day (meaning I'll be in the mall on the possible days it'll arrive) it's not as big a deal to me this time around.

That being said, I'm really excited about this next addition to the DDR series, moreso than any other release thus far. First and foremost, all the songpacks that were downloaded with UM1 are fully functional in UM2, not to mention for those who didn't get UM1 who get UM2 can download SPs 1 - 6 if they wish to. There looks to be 60 songs availble out of the box, which means I'll be starting out with 90. 8) The songlist (availble in the Ultramix 2 offical site) is a great mix of songs, the majority of them being new to DDR worldwide. UM2 will also have versus doubles finally, as well as an all new quad mode (meaning Dan is now buying the bundle for a second Xbox pad and another universal pad a couple weeks down the line to take advantage of these two new modes). Last but not least, Xbox Live functionality appears to be kicked up a notch, keeping the UM1 feature of downloadble songpacks, and adding in downloadable characters, creation and sharing of edit steps, and tournaments. ^_^ The party mode in this game will be a bunch of dance battle type games which look pretty fun judging by the screenshots and videos I've seen.

The way I see it, I'm guranteed to have the game by Friday (and thanx to an orchestra concert and dress rehearsal, I'll have the weekend off from work <3 ) so by Sunday night I'll have a nice review on it done around then since I'll be playing most the weekend. ^_^

Short version of this post: If you have an Xbox, especially if you have Xbox Live, get this game now.

Slightly longer version: This game is hands down the best US console release of DDR ever. Already mentioned is 60 songs out of the case, and the fact that the songpacks from 1 work (adding 30 more songs for me) meant a lot of hours for me to play last night. My goal was to play every song, and I did, and unlocked a bunch, and played those, all before going on Live. Konami really outdid themselves with this game, anything wrong with the last is essentially gone and has been improved on, the song wheel has changed though, but is actually pretty good (unlike Extreme) though I still have complaints that I can't see what mods are in effect right on the song select screen. Great selection of songs mostly new with some DDR classics, and right now I'm just one pad short of having 4 for the box and trying out versus doubles and quad, though that should change before the semester ends and I'll be sure to tell you all the fun of that.

Onto this game and Xbox Live. Fucking awesome. Ultramix 1 had flaws in how online play worked which was kind of a turnoff, UM2 has the ability to actually choose a room to go in when you search and all players return to the room after a song ends, so they can still talk and decide what to play next.which makes the game so much more fun than hunting down the people you just played with. I was up until 3am playing with a few other people for an hour or two (all of us on controllers). There was this one kid no older than 12 online last night bitching about me being on a controller (I was sick and tired) but since we were only doing standard mode I plugged the pad in and schooled him with my headset still on to taunt him. He ran away after six songs. XD More fun stuff with live besides downloading songpacks (which aren't up yet, damn microsoft >.<) is that you can also download characters, challenges, and edit data. In edit mode you can make your own set of steps like all the other games, but with um2 you can actually share your edits for other people to download, which is great since there's people who've recreated the oni steps for the songs that normally have them (A, V, etc.) and you can show off your edits too. Not sure if you can play edits online yet, but it's a nice addon to share them.

So this is the best DDR game on the console market. If you have an Xbox get this game, and get Live if you don't already have it. If you don't have an Xbox, get one, get this game, and get Live. XD

There were a lot of new licensed songs in Ultramix 2 (even moreso than the 23 licensed songs in US Extreme). I'd like to know what your favorites were.

Well, you guys probably noticed that I rarely post in the video games section. I don't normally play video games, so I can't really add to the discussions ^^

But today, I got bored, so I started going through some of these threads. But yeah ^^ I just started getting into DDR, and like Peachy, I suck for the same reasons she stated. But, I'm getting really good on Drum Mania! But I've always enjoyed karaoke, so this game sounds like fun. It's cool to see mostly older songs on the song list because I think the majority of the new music on the radio today is crap. This would be a great solution for me because I have asthma and I can't go to the bars because I can't handle all the smoke. I've been to the (smoking) bar maybe three times since I turned 18. All the few other times I went were at specifically the non smoking bars at the malls here. It would be nice if they had the family friendly karaoke places here like they have in Japan.

DDR Extreme 2 was released yesterday, and while I don't own the game yet (soon though, going to trade in some games I bought from a friend last year that I haven't touched yet for DDREX2), we played it last night in DDR club. I've also been reading up on it on the DDR Freak forums. So far my early impressions are really good. The song list is one of the best ever for a US release. I've always enjoyed the majority of songs in past games, so this isn't much different for me, but I've seen much more of a positive response from others with this game. Only a couple exceptions this time around. The song wheel a la 5th mix makes a return in which I'm very happy to see. To me, it's the best way to select songs, the new attempts to change it before this just haven't worked imo. My only complaint is that to alter the song options, you have to select an options menu before starting the song. It's not that bad, but after being able to just hold the button to bring up that options menu for EVERY game that used modifers before this, it's hard to get used to.

In this game, there's a mode called Dance Mission Mode. This is really unique and innovative, though going through the first couple areas is pretty tedious since the songs are in beginner and light modes. It's a good way to unlock songs and other things since you gain points to buy things to unlock, but I wish the standard way for unlocking songs and other things was an option. I won't mind having to go through DMM since I know I'll love it, but when there's lots of people playing, having DMM the only way to earn unlocks in the shop isn't really inviting since there's not that many songs availble out of the box.

Overall, great game so far. I can't wait to get it and unlock everything. Lots of songs I can finally play at home. XD

Ooooooh yes, 'twas fun playing at DDR Club. All the unlockables are gonna be really good. I'm kinda of not impressed with some of the steps of the new songs though.

DMM is annoying, and I'm already on Part C. It's too easy still right now, and it's probably gonna be too hard soon. I don't like it at all and I wish we could just play songs to unlock, like you said. Unlocking them this way takes forever.

As someone told me lately, everyone deserves the chance to fly
And if Im flying solo, at least Im flying free
To those whod ground me

I was at Nintendo.com recently and it turns out that Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix will be released on Oct 24! The game looks really awesome in the promotional video! I can't wait to preorder my copy XD

Okay, DMM is driving me NUTS.

I want Sync (EXTREME version) DAMMIT!!!!! It's one of my favorite DDR songs ever and I can't unlock it. I can't figure out how to get to board E either.

Why can't we just unlock stuff the normal way. Grrrrrrrr.

Sorry to bump this thread from the dead, but I've been hearing reports of a new Dance Dance Revolution that's gonna be released this Spring, called "Dance Dance Revolution: Supernova". I can't remember if it's for the PS2 or just for arcades, though.

It's a new arcade version.

From DDRFreak.com,

"The announcement of DDR SuperNOVA in the United States came as no surprise today, with plenty of notes and tidbits already disclosed from the ATEI. However, the buzz around the largest DDR mix to ever be launched was very tangible at Konami's Gamers Day in San Francisco this morning. A keynote address by Yoshihiko Ota, Executive Producer of Dance Dance Revolution noted that the United States should see Supernova populating arcades across the country this Spring. Furthermore, he noted that a European launch of the same game would follow. Lastly, Japan would see SuperNOVA in the arcades to complete the worldwide launch.

SuperNOVA touts a very robust, entirely new engine that makes for sleeker gameplay, new art style backgrounds, and a 300-plus songlist with over 2000 step patterns. New dancers and motion-captures give SuperNOVA even more eye candy than previously offered. From a functionality standpoint, Battle Mode, reminiscent of Disney's Rave/Disney's Mix wil be available, as will Oni and Nonstops. The game will support home version connectivity features, and user-created step data will be playable in the arcade."

Dan and I can't wait
