Dance Dance/Karoake Revolution

Video games and anime sometimes tie in with each other, plus video games kick ass. =P Discuss them here.

I have to buy that one o.O

I'm not *that* bad at DDR, though I'm not an expert yet, but I can sing, hopefully :P so maybe I'll be better with that game!

Heh. I have several mixes of DDR for the PS1 and I'm sort of proud of myself. I can play some songs on Standard, though I tend to resort to Light for most songs. I'd like to get KR but I don't have a PS2. heh. I'll be getting a PS2 soon and I'll get it. I have a relatively good singing voice as long as I know the tune well enough. I'm a musician so I guess that helps. ^_^

Are you referring to Karoake Revolution? If so, then it came out months ago. In October/November, I think. And, there are several different versions of Dance Dance Revolution out. Do you have an EB Games in your town? If so, check there.

The most recent PS2 DDR game (Max2) came out last October, if I recall correctly. There's also an X-Box version which came out before Christmas, called Ultramix.

ParaKiss_Groupie's right about KR; it came out right around the time Max2 came out, if not just after.

I love the idea of KR, but I wish the songlist was as good as the idea. There's nothing there I really want to sing along to, otherwise I'd buy it.

Here in the States you can only get a few mixes of DDR:

PS1:

Dance Dance Revolution

Dance Dance Revolution: Konamix

Dance Dance Revolution USA

Dance Dance Revolution Disney Mix

PS2

Dance Dance Revolution Max (6th mix)

Dance Dance Revolution Max2 (7th mix)

And then there are the ones you can get either if you download and burn them or if you get it from Japan imported:

PS1

DDR Mixes 1-5, Extra, DDR Disney Rave Remix

PS2

DDR Max (the Japanese release has songs that the US one does not)

DDR Max2 (Same comment as DDR Max)

DDR Extreme (That's set for US release this fall, but I really expect there'll be songs left out compared to the Japanese release this past October)

DDR Party Collection (which released this past December I think)

With those I think I listed all the versions of DDR...

But...

I think there are others but I can't think of them right now. If anyone knows the others feel free to add and elaborate to my post.

There were a few Dreamcast releases - 1st and 2nd Mix, and also Club Mix. There was also a Best Hits collection for the PS1.

There's also the one that you can download called DDR Stepmania. It's the best form of DDR. You can download every single DDR song and mix, including several anime songs turned into DDR songs. However, many of the songs exclusive to Stepmania (such as the anime songs) are meant for the keyboard, requiring the player to hit all four arrows at the same time.

Also, there's DDR Ultramix (with my favourite song, Sana Morrette Ne Ente remix) available for the Xbox, and I've heard about another called DDR Xbox, but I never heard a release date for it.

Stepmania isn't licensed by Konami at all, so it's not really a version of DDR. It's nice, and you can get pads to work with it, it's just unofficial. The stepfiles are all made by fans of the game, so sometimes you get two or three versions of the same song.

XD I played Karaoke Revolution for the first time at Ushicon..it was me and three guys. The guys did pretty badly (except for one asian guy, who did all right)..when it got to me, I did my first song...and got a platinum (the highest you can get). I turned around when i was done, and everybody was just like "O____O;;;"

I was so proud =D

"Kiss Me" XD; it was great.
And the song selection could be better...There are a lot of random songs that make me go "wtf?"

No problem. :) I should have added in that there is an official PC version of DDR made by Konami, but it's really hard to find. RedOctane (a really good place to get DDR stuff - I've had very good experiences buying from them) has it listed here, but they're out of stock. I know at one time a few of the big US West Coast electronics stores had it in stock, but I don't think it ever made its way across the country.

If you can't tell already, I'm a Bemani geek. DDR is my favorite, but I like ParaPara Paradise a lot, too. I've also tried Beatmania, Beatmania IIDX (7-key Beatmania, and the hardest game in the series as far as I'm concerned), and Drummania.

On the subject of Stepmania, how many songs do you guys have in yours if you use it? 100? 200? 300? I've got 803-ish songs atm (approx 1.59 GB worth, with several duplicates). I added in like 7 mixes worth yesterday. It's finally working correctly with our (mine and my brother's) DDR mat. Before it would lag like crazy... This week I'm gonna get an adaptor to connect my laptop (pictured here, though that one is a newer model than what I have but mine is pretty similar: http://www.apple.com/ibook ) to the TV in our living room because the ceiling is gonna break if we play it more in my room lol..

My town is finally getting a DDR Arcade. It's coming to a coffee shop. -_- Not a cafe, but a coffee shop. I don't understand it at all.... This is also the same coffee shop where the local bands play. And the local bands suck. So now, if I want to go play on the Arcade, but don't want to drive an hour, I must deal with "Homegrown Emo" music.

If you can't tell, I'm not too excited about it. I'll be leaving the town in a few months, and I have DDR at my house, with Ignition pads. I don't need to pay the money to play it at an arcade. The only real "plus" I see with the Arcade machine is that it's going to be Extreme. But once DDR Extreme is released at home, I'll have no reason to go. I am, however, going to be on a DDR Team with my friends, so it's cool.

Update on my Stepmania collection: I just added in the DDR GB (gameboy) mixes. lol.. The sound quality really sucks but the steps are decent. I haven't had a chance to try it with my mat yet but I will maybe this weekend.

T_T KR is the only kind of DDR game I can get in my area. And I'm not buying it because their are to few songs. To bad you can't download your own songs.

My mom just bought an X-Box, but I can't find any DDR games. The people at the video game stores say that their isn't any DDR games in the area

But, if I ever do get this game, what is the best dance mat to buy? I've read about these shitty mats that don't work and these metal mats that are $200. @_@ it's all so confusing.

Important Konami News:

DDR Extreme is set to be released for the PS2 on September 21, 2004.

Karoake Revolution Volume 2 is set to be released for the PS2 on July 15, 2004.

Are you allowed to order things off the Internet? If so, then search for DDR Ultramix online. That is the X-Box version.

As far as pads go, I'm not sure about the kind of pads for the X-box. I play on Ignition pads which run about $100 a piece, but they're for the PS2. The kind you get really should depend on how much you play and how good you are. For instance, if you've just started, I suggest the Mad Catz pads. Depending on how you play, they last a varying amount of time. If you stomp hard, they might last a month. But if you play lightly, they'll last. Now, eventually they will break. But then you can decide if you really want to shell out money for good pads.
