The Sims

Post by FoxFire » Fri Oct 31, 2003 3:13 pm

Since this is the only video game I'm really into right now I thought I'd start a topic on it. Anyone else into The Sims, and what expansion packs do you have?

I have Hot Date and Vacation and I'm considering adding a few more, particularly Livin' Large or Superstar. I do have a question. I just got Vacation for my birthday a few weeks ago, and the instructions say that if you have Livin' Large and Hot Date you should install them both first before Vacation. I already installed Vacation, but I'm planning on switching computers soon. Is it really worth buying Livin' Large, cause if it is I think I should get that soon so I can install on my new computer first before Hot Date and Vacation.

I have everything expect Vacation and Superstar. I love the Sims. I love ruining their lives. It's fun to make them happy, then make their whole family turn on them.

I wanna buy Makin' Magic. That one looks so fun!

Makin' Magic looks pretty cool too. But I want Superstar next and am still decided if I need Livin' Large before I move my Sims to my new computer. Grrrrrr, I went every expansion pack!

I'd get Livin' Large, if I were you.

My brother has the first game and the aforementioned expansion. He really has no interest in getting any of the other expansions, though I want the one with animals myself.

I don't like the animals. They're to hard to control and I always forget about them, so they end up dying. It's sad.

I gave up on the Sims a while back.. First, Mr.Sim needs a shower, goes in shower, then whines about how he wants to go to the toilet, then Mrs.Sim is already using it, and shoos him out. Mr.Sim wets himself and the family dog rolls around in the resulting puddle. At dinner time, the Sims leave tons of dirty plates behind that they refuse to clean up, leaving Little Miss Sim to do all the dirty work. The normally neat Mrs.Sim decides to have a snack, but tosses it over her shoulder, leaving another mess for Sim Dog to roll around in. Mr.Sim has had a shower and a snack and everything else, so he's set to go to work. Then suddenly he whines about another snack, and has one. Then Little Miss Sim stops him on the way out to talk about clowns and he misses his carpool. Little Miss Sim goes in pool, there's plenty of ladders to get out, suddenly she complains she has to go to the bathroom, the hand on the mouse and keyboard orders her to get out of pool, Little Miss Sim refuses, whining in gibberish, and therefore drowns. Just another average day in the Sim household, besides Mr.Sim refusing Mrs.Sim's kisses and Mrs.Sim kicking Mr.Sim out of the bed, therefore making him sleep on the couch. Despite attempts by the player of the game to make her Sims care for their dog, the Sims neglect to play with it and it therefore dies. Meanwhile, neighborhood animals and people somehow waltz into the house without permission, leaving messes on the floor and everywhere, while another neighbor is polite enough to knock on the door, however Mrs.Sim is too late to answer it, and the neighbor leaves, grumbling. Mr.Sim refuses Mrs.Sim's romantic advances, but accepts the kisses and back rubs from the neighborhood ladies. Mrs.Sim is kicked out of bed by Mr.Sim, while Little Mister Sim wets himself near his sister's grave, leaving a nice puddle behind. Yep, just another day with the Sims..

I don't know if I can help you with all of those problems Anna, but if you have a problem with your Sims doing stuff on their own that you don't want them to do, try taking away their free will. I got so annoyed with that for a while till I finally just removed free will for good, and I find it so much easier that way.

I do find it extremely annoying when one Sim tries to kiss another and he/she rejects his/her advances, especially when it happens with a couple who have 100% on their relationship bar and a red heart. They should let you control how characters who you created and control will react instead of just doing it randomly.

Yeah, it's annoying alright, I didn't know about the free will thing though, that's how slow I am. I kind of like how the Sims push each other away and blab them out when they try to get hugged or kissed, but it gets really irritating. I mean, the only way you can understand the Sims is by the little toilet/food/shower/bed/fun symbols over their heads, everything else is just Sim gibberish, or might I say Simmish..Here's a few "intelligent" Sim blurbs I've heard throughout the course of my games(yes, I actually remember them):

"Here pika pika pika!" *when calling Sim Dog*

"Woowoohoo! A gabba gabba deeba floo!" *Mr.Sim whining about a snack*

"Glackan floop heeban gaba?" *Little Miss Sim while apparently telling Mr.Sim about clowns*

"A gabba gabba gabba! Heeban floom heeban floom!" *Mrs.Sim while kicking her husband out of bed*

"Chika flogon mo mo shoogon!" *Mr.Sim, pushing Mrs.Sim away*

"Skeeba hobba! Booga rooga!" *Mr.Sim, after wetting himself and leaving a nice puddle*

I have the Sims Deluxe and Makin' Magic.
Makin' Magic is pretty fun. But time flies when I play the sims. *tick* and it's addicting.

I didn't much care for the Sims. Even at its slowest setting, time seemed to go by too fast in the game for the character to do much.

I'm sticking with Simcity. Why control one soul, when you can control a million!

I just started doing an anime neighborhood. So far I fave the casts of Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star living there, and I just moved Utena and Anthy in. I've looked at the very places to get Sailor Moon skins, and I think OtakuWorld's are the best. They have good Tenchi skins too, so I might just subscribe for a month so I can get them. I'd like to move the 5 inners into one house in my anime neighborhood, then start a seperate Sailor Moon neighborhood (I just got Livin Large so with that plus Hot Date I have 8 neighborhoods available) and give them all their own house.

J Andersen, I completely agree with you about time going too fast. I'm completely addicted to the Sims, but there are so many things that annoy me about it that I find myself hitting my computer and cursing how much I hate this game every time I play it, and the time thing is my biggest annoyance. It can take a half hour or hour to do something that would probably take 5 or 10 minutes in real life.

My sim Family has a mom (Teresa), a dad (Adam), and a kid (her name is Melinda, I think)

It's good to start with one family so you can get used to the controls.

Hmm, Anime skins huh? Could be fun..I never thought about that before, or heard of it until now..The only skins that I've seen that come close to anime skins are some Moon Kitty skins so you can make your SimCat look like Luna or something. Now that I think about it, Anime Sim characters could be just what I'm looking for to spice up the boredom..Just think of the humorous outcomes that would produce.. The only Sim human skins I've seen on the net was where you could make your Sims overweight or anorexic and completely bony, or make them look like aliens. I once also saw Simpsons Sim skins, and all I can say is O_O. I think I'll go with the Anime Character skins though, know any Sim sites that have them? Whenever I try entering 'Sim skins' or 'Sim tips' into the search engine, I get results for Sims porn sites (HUUUH? HOOOO!?) and well, needless, to say, that is the next disturbing fetish I've seen next to the clown porn spam someone sent me..Um, anyway, before I go off-topic, I might as well do this *whacks self with back on topic stick*

There should be some there, and those sites have links to others that have yet more.

I have a whole bunch of anime skins (including a Gundam. Don't ask me how that works...), but I never could get them to work (though I'm 99% that's a problem on my end, not with the skins themselves)

I like to put anime characters in the Sims, here are the ones I have in the game right now:
*means the Sim actually somewhat LOOKS like the character they represent because I downloaded a skin that looks like them; all the others are rough approximations (or completely different-looking because I wanted to include more of the dark-skinned Sims)
Sailor Moon: Sailor Moon*, Sailor Mercury*, Sailor Mars*, Sailor Jupiter*, Sailor Venus*, Sailor Uranus*, Sailor Neptune*, Sailor Pluto*, Sailor Saturn*, Chibi-Usa-sama*, Tuxedo Mask, Sailor Star Fighter*, Sailor Star Maker, Sailor Star Healer, Princess Kakyuu, Luna, Diana, Artemis (these three are in human form), Chibi Chibi

Ranma 1/2: Genma, Ranma, Soun, Kasumi, Nabiki, Akane, Kuno, Kodachi, Cologne, Ukyo, Ryoga, Shampoo, Mousse

Magic Knights Rayearth: Hikaru, Umi, Fuu

Tenchi Muyo: Pretty Sammy

Card Captor Sakura: Sakura

Evangelion: Ayanami Rei*, Shinji, Asuka

Wedding Peach: Wedding Peach, Angel Lily, Angel Daisy

Nadesico: Ruri*

Gundam Wing: Trowa

Revolutionary Girl Utena: Utena*, Anthy*

Slayers: Lina*

Tokyo Mew Mew: Pudding, Zakuro, Ichigo, Mint, Lettuce

Fushigi Yuugi: Miaka

Yes, I know that's a lot of Sims...well, there's a lot of anime characters out there! (I would have more of them looking like the characters actually do, but I have a Mac and the files don't always work on my version of the game) And all I have is Livin' Large (I'm not sure if I'll want any of the others when they come out for the Mac or not).

THAT. would be cool. Espically with Hot Date and Livin' Large. Honestly, in the games there is DEFINATLY some relationship between the two. It would be cool... Link & Zelda child... LOL!
