Katamari Damacy

Post by KoiNoVash » Wed Jan 26, 2005 1:28 pm

I'm surprised that no one has talked about this game yet. It has to be one of the best games I have ever played in my life! I love getting things to stick to that ball, especially people in buildings (the screaming is hilarious). The opening of the game is both trippy and beautiful. And the soundtrack! I love the soundtrack! It always puts me in a good mood.[/spoiler]

I own this game, and I gotta say it is fun. You know they are making a Katamari Damacy 2? Can't wait to get it.

I picked up We <3 Katamari today.

*retreats from society for 8 years to play*

Seriously, this is the most fun, addictive, pretty, and cool game since DDR, and it doesn't need special equipment. Plus it's cheap. I can't say enough about it.

OK, I'm shutting up to go play another 16 years.

For Tempest: How to roll the king:

Keep restarting until you get the start where you face the cardboard boxes, roll them, then proceed to the left and start picking up kites on the road. Go all the way down till you get to the sumo guy, make a right and go to the end, make another right and go to the end, you can roll the trash cans and a bunch of stacked boxes or something. Then start picking up those big pudding-looking things in the road until you hit the first size increase. Roll some people and head for the section where there is a row of screens next to an elevated platform. Roll the screens and the fencing around the platform. At about 2m 60cm, head for the sports park, and do a hard, circling dash to pick up as many people as possible. You want to try to get to 3m 20 cm before the 3m loading screen hits.

Once you have that, roll the fencing that blocks off the pool, then head down the drain at the pool head. Keep forward till you see a fenced in basketball court. Roll all the fencing left to right, then proceed forward and roll the temple bells. Follow the road, rolling statues until you can make a left. You can roll the railroad crossing signs, then keep going to a row of parked cabs and some planetarium telescopes. These should get you a size increase. After, turn around and there's a little gazebo to your left. A track comes out of it; roll this and keep going to the jungle gym. Make a right and find the karaoke booths (looks like 4 trailers stacked and teetering). Start rolling small trees until you can roll cherry trees. Those are a big help, so roll as many as you can. Pass the 12m load screen but keep rolling till you get ~14m.

Head for the ferris wheel, and turn on the road to the city (Tokyo). Go through Tokyo without stopping and follow the road to England/France. You should be able to roll the double-decker busses on that road, and maybe pause for stonehenge. In any case, your goal is the little french village with trees and brown buildings. Roll them, then head down the road to Paris. There's lots of buildings around the Eiffel Tower, but you can't always roll them all, so tackle the small ones first, then work your way up. Left of the road to Paris is the industrial area; roll factories and such and head to New York. You can roll many but not all buildings here, so just bump around and gain size up to the 60m load screen.

When you're done, head left and you should see the Taj Mahal. Go left from there and go over the mountains to the starting area, now a lot smaller. Roll the buildings you couldn't when you were here before, and head for Tokyo and roll that. One stubborn building won't roll, but don't worry. Your goal is to get to 82 m, or at least to 78 or so, then head back over the mountains to the giant Buddha and the big fire kanji. When you get 82, you can and should roll the Great Wall of China, end to end. This is a major size bump. Head around the coast to the desert area, and roll pyramids, and a cousin if you've avoided the other two. turn around from that and get the gojira knocking down the buildings, then there are a bunch of clouds around an island. Get them, and it should take you all the way up to 300 m. Then you can roll up the floor of the desert, which should take you to 500 m.

At 500, the goal is cleared, but you should stick around. Get the land that surrounded the desert, then go back and just pick up as much land as possible. Most of it will be rollable, and you can get to 1000 m quickly. Now you're in the ocean for the long haul, and it's pretty random from here. Get tornados, whirlpools, and clouds whenever possible. They look small, but they're big bumps. When you can roll the really big clouds in the sky, you're almost home. Stick with them until you can get to 3200 m, then find the king and knock him silly. (don't be noble and try to roll him straight) Once you complete the level having rolled the king, the queen will show up on future runs.

Ive gotten both the king and the queen.

they are difficult to get but the cowbear makes them look like a cake walk.

Im working on trying to get the rest of the shooting stars, they are all I need to complete the collection. They are also massively evil.

You, sir, are a prince. <3
I'll have to find my game and try this later. I owe the king for pushing me around with his rainbow breath when I was still small.

I'm pretty good at getting shooting stars, but I can't remember how many I have. :/ I havn't played for over a month. I know I have the one for the race track, the old lady, the grandfather and I *think* the little bird.

Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

the shooting stars are just a matter of doing it where as the cowbear requires luck and some strategy but mostly luck.

I got the one for the bird and the one for the flowers I think?

I keep getting 99% on the gingerbread house which is maddening since you need 100% for that one. Any tips?

I got 100% on that level but got no shooting star. Anyway, how to do it: think hard about a lawnmower. When you mow a lawn, you keep the grass line at the center of the mower, so you don't leave unmown spots, and if you have a bend, you match that bend next pass. Start by rolling into the house and focusing on the floor and side walls. Also the chimney. If you get to 1.4 m and need a bump, get the fence outside the house. At 1.5 you can roll small supports like the gazebo, and at 1.6 or so big supports. Strike them and let the roof fall on you. Once you've gotten most of it, start working the outer rim. Get the cookie trees and be sure to roll over center so you get the stump. Start with the outside and work your way in. Never cross over the path to Hansel and Gretel--use your turnaround instead. Move out only to catch stragglers. Then sweep back and forth to get the remnants of the house (watch out for the floor, it blends in with the grass) The final run up to H&G can take as little as 10 seconds, so be sure about getting the down area. Then make that run, roll up one of the two before getting those sweets in back of them, then hit the other to end the level.

::nods:: That's how I get 100% on the Gingerbread stage.
