I just finished playing through my first round of Tales of Symphonia and I was just wondering if anyone else had played it. I personally think its one of the best RPGs I've ever played. The battle system is fast, intuitive and fun. The characters are interesting and look great (Kosuke Fujima, the author of Oh! My Goddess, made the character designs.) The voice acting is top notch too. (the guy who does Robin in Teen Titans is the voice of the hero.) The story is pretty interesting as well, except it gets kinda cliched and preachy near the end. Thats not really a problem for me though, since it sort of reminds me a Sailormoon endings. The only major gripe I have about it is the lack of fully animated scenes. There are a total of 10 minutes of animation in about 60 hours of gameplay, and that's including the title sequence. I'm not asking for it to be like Xenosaga, but some of the sprite-scenes that had voice acting could have been made into full-anime scenes. (The animation is very good though.) I also liked the skits a lot as they really fleshed out the plot and characters. The problem is that none of them are voiced over. It gets tiring to watch a set of heads silently moving their lips and having to read the dialogue on the bottom. Granted there were over 300 skits, but voice acting should still be there...
I also have a question for those who have played the other RPGs in the Tales series.
Does the tree that grows at the end of the game feature in the other Tale's games? What is it called? The game simply stops right before Lloyd gives it a name and I've tried looking for it but have been unsuccessful.
I didn't get that far yet (I'm still stuck at the Temple of Water), but I love what I've seen. The music is great, especially the opening theme (well, the American one anyway because I never listened to the Japanese) and title theme. I don't exactly agree with the voice acting---Lloyd and Kratos are probably the only good ones---and Colette's voice actress is probably the worst. Despite that, though, she is my favorite character in the game. She is so cute!
And I'm afraid I can't answer your question, since I haven't played any other Tales games. Sorry!

I recall playing Tales of phantasia, a patched ROM on an SNES Emulator, one of my favorite lines is "Klarth: Mint has that quiet elegance about her. I bet Arche fucks like a tigher. Cless: KLARTH!! I cant beleive you just said that!!" lol, very funny. you have to play it to really get it. but I already knew about Batmans former sidekicks voice actor being the voice of the hero. real time extreme battles, I wonder if the next pokemon titles will do the same real time battles.
I appologize for offending anyone. I regret the wrongs I have commited, and am deeply sorry.
I enjoyed playing Tales of Symphonia the plot was very oragainl. Had quite a few twist must amit I knew a few of the "major plot shock's" from Sammuu. So I kept yelling
Kartos to tell Loyd he was his father but be fair how very "Luke I am you father wasit?
But even so the ending was just very hurrah we have beaten the boss now we end it bwhahahaha

The Doctor: What''''s the use of a good quotation if you can''''t change it?

Yeah, after a replay I'm beginning to see your point. I really like Collette as a character, but her voice actor really needs to shape up. When she's calm, she's good. The problem is that she tries too hard when she's trying to sound excited - "We HAVE to GO and SAVE the GREAT karLAN tree!"-_-;;I don't exactly agree with the voice acting---Lloyd and Kratos are probably the only good ones---and Colette's voice actress is probably the worst. Despite that, though, she is my favorite character in the game. She is so cute!
And yeah, the ending was really predictable. I could almost say what the next lines were going to be. The only thing I don't understand is Tabatha's role in the plot. I mean, she was just there. No explanation was given about her past at all.
Do you guys prefer Kratos or Zelos? Personally, I prefer Zelos because he's way funnier. Kratos was ok, but he wasn't really that interesting, in my opinion.

I like them both, but I sometimes have moods in which I prefer one over the other. Right now, I prefer Zelos because of his general dirtiness. Kratos is cool because of his voice and his mysteriousness.Vagabond wrote:Yeah, after a replay I'm beginning to see your point.
