Ah not really. I might give it a rental out of curiosity and for old time's sake though.

Back in the day, I was crazy about MK. But Deadly Alliance killed the series for me. Well MK4 and MK Gold's funfactor was pretty short lived as well.

My overall opinion on MK's current state-
MK failed to keep up with the evolution of fighting games. It's too simple compared to other fighters nowadays, and always relied mostly on gore and fatalities to sell. So of course when MKDA came out and there was only 1 fatality per character, many fans were unhappy with that too. You never hear about tournaments for the current MK games either. I wish they'd try to advance the gameplay more than concentrating on gimmicks and adding so much useless crap to unlock.

Can you please elaborate on things? One-sentence posts really don't leave much room for discussion.

When I play fighting games I like good gameplay. Fatalities aren't even incorporated into the actual match in MK, just a fancy way of saying "I kicked your ass". At least the Killer Instinct series allowed you to combo the No Mercies. New stages, new modes of play (mini games and the like) aren't the most important things in fighting games, to me. Those things are cool, as long as the gameplay doesn't suffer.

The gameplay is what kept me into fighting games such as most of the Tekken series, Guilty Gear XX, Soul Calibur 1, Virtua Fighter 4, most of the SF series, etc for so long. Not all of the extras and unlockable junk.

To further express my opinion on how the MK team should work more on the actual gameplay mechanics.-

MKDA was years behind other 3D fighting games. I mean take the combo system for example. The juggles are way too limited, uncreative and too easy. The regular combos barely require any timing, just dialing buttons in a set sequence. (some people call it "dial a combo) Or sidestepping, which always seemed virtually pointless in all of the MK games that have them. Setups? Are there really any? Oh and throws. You can block throws so easily. And I think they should be some okizeme elements added too. Okizeme is basically wake up games. Ie having options to punish your opponent while they are on the ground or getting up. Or when you're on the ground, being able to stop your opponent from hurting you. It adds strategy.

So if Deception didn't add ANY of the above (and from what i've read about the game, it hasn't) , I don't have a reason to look forward to it. Although as I said earlier I probably will play it. More likely now since I found out my roommate plans on getting the X-Box version.

Well, one of MK's biggest selling points was the fatalities, and it's a shame that they seem to be the only games that have the concept of a "prize" for witting a fight.

I think most fighting games are about the gameplay, with a backstory thrown in just for one-player games. I wouldn't mind seeing a little more effort put into the bells and whistles, and giving you a real sense of victory. If it's a choice of one or the other, I'll go for the good gameplay, but I really want both.

Specifically, I'd like to see more realism in fighting games. I want to be able to have a fight that looks like something out of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or Kill Bill or The Matrix, that is, something that puts you in mind of people fighting, and not things like Collision Detection and Polygon Clipping.
Things I think Are Funny Early in the Morning: If Batman were a Smurf: "Quick, Robin! We must smurf down to the Batcave and smurf the Batplane! Then we must smurf the batsmurf so we can smurf where the Joker is smurfing!"

The Croonerism Spate (explanations upon request)
Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

Mortal Kombat was a favorite for my brother and I back in the day, I did not care to check out Deadly Alliance though. I'm more into Dead or Alive and Gundam Battle Assault now A days. Of course the fatalities are fun though, I really loved those things, especially the ones where I upper cut people off the roofs of buildings and stuff, and into pools of acid.

I agree, there should be something that gives you a real sense of victory, like the Blazin moves in Def Jam fight for NY, and pulling off a super move in any fighting game that does heavy damage. but I'd rather both quality design, and beauty in a game. and maybe multiplayer stories, two on two battles are intense, trust me. but to be back on topic, I'm waiting for my chance to play Scorpion, and rip the arms off that drunk Boh Rai Cho, and beat him with them! *laughing maniachally* "GET OVER HERE!!" my favorite line from scorpion.
I appologize for offending anyone. I regret the wrongs I have commited, and am deeply sorry.

*sigh* Finanly got the game so now I can give my opinion. I've been a fan of the mortal kombat game for a bit. I played what I belive was the first game and then when to this one. So the story of course was different.

Yeah I can see how they fell behind in the times with graphics. But I'm glad that they are making an effort to improve. I'm pretty happy with this game.

I got the game a little over a week ago, and would have to say I'm pretty happy with it. I didn't play DA for some reason, so I'm not sure how Deception compares with it, but I like the game. It's pretty cool how there's three fighting styles (2 plus a weapon "style") for each character, and that each character has two fatalities, and a new addition I really like, a hara kiri, where you can have your fighter kill themselves instead of letting your opponent do it for you after you lose. Puzzle Kombat mode is awesome, very similar to Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, imo the best puzzle game ever, so I started owning my friends in it immediately, and will probably start climbing the Xbox Live ladder in that soon. I haven't played Chess Kombat or Konquest modes yet, though I'll probably start Konquest soon to unlock all the good stuff and majority of the characters.

I got the Kollector's Edition (last one in my EB) with the nice slipcase, metallic trading card, and bonus disc. The slip case and card are nice touches, the bonus disc I kind of expected more from. It's in a slipcase instead of having the game case being a double-disc case, which I was kind of expecting since it would make sense so the disc is more secure in the case, and it would be easier to keep with the game. The content of the disc itself is alright, the best one being the arcade-perfect original Mortal Kombat port. It is what it says, arcade perfect, and a blast to play again. There's also every trading card bio video on this disc, which is pretty nice but fairly short for each character. I feel they could've done quite a bit more for each of these bios, but what's there is pretty nice. Last there's a video that goes through MK's history. I was honestly really disappointed with this video. All they did in this video was show clips of each game with some comments from people who worked on it, and that was pretty much it. No mention of the movies, nothing really indepth about the games or their creations, and only about three minutes long if that. Kind of disappointing, but the original MK, card (very high quality), and nice case does make the extra $10 worth it (though I'd have only offered it for an extra $5).
