Sailor Moon Super S Fighter is kinda like Street Fighters II

Video games and anime sometimes tie in with each other, plus video games kick ass. =P Discuss them here.

Sailor Moon Super S Fighter is kinda like Street Fighters II

Post by Ice Ninja Freeze » Wed Aug 11, 2004 11:14 am

If you ever play Sailor Moon Super S for the Super Famicom or on a ROM, it's very simular to Street Fighters II. Some of the moves are like from Street Fighters 2. Play as Sailor Jupitor, when she use her speical move, and it shock her foe and you can see the other Sailor Senshi bones and junk, that's a homage and rip off from Blanka, when he shock his foes

Sailor Merucry's spining kick attacks(dont know the name of it) look like Chun Li's Spining Bird Kick when she go upside-down and jump in the air, but Ami/Merucry spins on the ground and Sailor Merucry's wall jump is like Chun Li's wall jump.

When Sailor Mars do her speical moves like "Mars Snake Fire", when it hit a Sailor Senshi, it sets the Senshi on fire, just like the Yoga guy(I forgot his name)

Here who I think which Sailor Senshi compares to a Street Fighter

Usagi/Sailor Moon: Ryu. Sailor Moon is the star of the game and anime, Ryu is like the star of Street Fighters

Ami/Sailor Merucry: Chun Li. Sailor Merucry can do a wall jump like Chun Li, and Merucry's kics are fast

Rei/Sailor Mars: The Yoga Fighter. When they do a fire attack, they set their foes on fire

MakotoSailor Juptior: Blanka.

Chibi-Usa/Chibi-Moon: Ken

Oh yeah, remeber when you have to fight four bosses in Street Fighters 2, they did that on Sailor Moon Super S

Setsuna/Sailor Pluto:Balrog(AKA M.Bison in Japan...compare that name to Mike Tyson) Sailor Pluto is strong like Balrog, but not as fast, like Balrog is. BUt Sailor Pluto is WAY smarter then Balrog

Michiru/Sailor Neptune: Vega(AKA Balrog in Japan) They are both very fast but not good fighters

Haruka/Sailor Uranus: Sagat: They are both very fast, very powerful, very tall, very cheap.

Hotaru/Sailor Saturn:M.Bison(AKA Vega in Japan):M.Bison is evil, Hotaru is(or was) evil. Their powers and attack are very very deadly, and they are both cheap final bosses.

That's how most fighting games were on the SNES. You can't just take two games and compare them like that, especially on a limited system such as the SNES. They couldn't do much more than that.

And I'm sorry, but comparing Usagi to Ryu just doesn't hold up. They're both the main characters? That's your basis? So, is M. Bison just like Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat? In DOA, Kasumi can bounce off walls. Is she just like Chun-Li? Your comparisons are just really trite. Every game has characters like that.

Dhalsim.

And yeah, there were a lot of SF2 clones for the Super Nintendo--anyone else remember Clay Fighter? And I kinda got annoyed that that was the engine that won out. Some moves like the Dragon Punch seemed so counterintuitive to pull off (forward, down, forward-down? Why not let me complete the quarter-circle?) And the idea of block damage made too many fights far too long and boring. I would have much preferred them to clone Mortal Kombat or, as eventually happened with the next generation systems, Virtua Fighter.

Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

The first SM fighting game (Sailormoon S) was almost identical to the SuperS one. Except they didn't have their moves from SuperS, had one less special, and Saturn wasn't in it.

On the surface, yes the Sailormoon fighting games are Street Fighter 2 clones. However I'm positive that if you were to go into in depth gameplay the two would be VERY different. Ie: combos, strategy with the characters (SF probably has more of this), and how Guile in SF has some glitch in one of the SF2 games (SF2 World Warrior I think) that makes him have an advantage over everybody else. I can't remember what it was. And correct if I'm wrong but the SM fighting games only have a low powered and a high powered attack. I know for a fact that SF2 has low, medium, and high.

Also, the SM fighting games had an option that SF2 didn't have: despiration moves. You know those powerful moves the Sailor Senshi can do when their health is low. (Battle Arena Toshinden series has the same thing) SF series got super moves later (in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo) on but those were more strategic, and not as abuseable

And Sailorasteroid, Mortal Kombat had a lot of clones and games at least inspired by it. Killer Instinct, Mace the Dark Age, Bio Freaks, War Gods, Thrill Kill, and probably some others. Mace The Dark age was pretty good and it should have a sequel. KI had a lot of potential to be a long lived series, and I was hookedo n both KI's. But many of the game elements were executed poorly. ie: combo breakers and being centered on combos But the rest of the so-called clones sucked IMO

Wasn't Thrill Kill cancelled during development?

Well the official game was cancelled but a beta version was still available. I guess I should've mention that I never played that one but it didn't look so hot to me.

Really? I had always been under the impression that it was released, though only for a few days before whoever released it decided it was too violent at the time. So all copies on the shelf were recalled, so the game is very hard to come by. I have reason to believe this was happened and that it was not cancelled in beta stages since one of my friends has a copy of the full version of the game.

As for the game itself, I don't remember much since it's been a long time since I played it. Though some things I do remember is having all 4 players fight on the screen at once, and that you got to use your finisher depending on how much damage you inflicted to others instead of the normal when the opponent has their stanima drained routine.

Hmm I also did hear that the so called beta version is really a complete version of the game. But there were also rumors that the game wasn't completely done, and there was supposed to be more graphic violence added.

Either way the game was never made it to the shelves though. EA cancelled the release of TK after EA bought out Virgin Interactive. It was cancelled because they (EA ) thought it was too violent. TK was leaked somehow (I don't remember the details), which is why copies are avalaible (yet rare). You even need a mod chip for your PSX to play the game. Or get the ROM if you have PSX emu.

Anyone here play the SuperS Playstation 1 fighter? It was pretty good for 1996's technology and graphics capabilities. You can play as all the Senshi I believe. I still play it every now and then.

I heard the SuperS fighting game on PSX is very similar to the SNES SuperS game but I haven't played it.

I downloaded the intro. It's pretty cool. And the Sailor Soldiers have transformation sequences in it right? Or perhaps that was the Saturn game. Either way Sailor Saturn's infamous "unofficial" transformation appears in one of those fighting games

I used to love street fighter games and they're still making them today. I might try and see if I can download a sailor moon game tonight since it's got me more into the game genre, but they're rare to find nowadays.
