Video games and anime sometimes tie in with each other, plus video games kick ass. =P Discuss them here.

Nintendo is going to crash and burn if they don't think of something soon. LAN supports will only get them so far, and their Game Boy Advance "games" (ports of SNES games from years ago) are beginning to bother me. Pokemon and Kirby are the only franchises that seem to be doing anything on the Game Boy Advance, and even then, they're getting lazy and unoriginal. And their NES re-releases...pointless.

Back in 2003, I thought Square coming back to Nintendo would be a good thing, but it didn't turn out that way. Many fans of Final Fantasy Tactics HATED the Game Boy Advance version, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles has gotten mixed reviews, and no one's playing the Secret of Mana sequel on GBA.

Third party support is almost gone, with Capcom the first major company to go (Viewtiful Joe only on Nintendo Gamecube? Yeah..for about 5 months. Now the sequel will be released on PlayStation 2 the same day the Gamecube version will). Now all they make for Nintendo is the Mega Man Battle Network and Mega Man Zero series, both of which should've ended years ago, IMHO.

What about the other third party companies? Sega's given gamers nothing but 3D Sonic (Adventure DX, Adventure 2 Battle, Heroes) and a collection of their 16-bit games (my favorite Sonic game on Gamecube, sadly) along with Phantasy Star Online on Gamecube, and mediocre, "new" 2-D Sonic games on Game Boy Advance. The only original games they've made for Gamecube are Amazing Island and Billy Hatcher, neither of which have sold well or were well-recieved by revewiers and gamers alike.

Namco STILL refuses to put their biggest franchise, Tekken, on anything but PlayStation 2, and Tales of Symphonia is, seriously, the only decent Nintendo game that wasn't a port they've released since the SNES days (that was nearly a decade ago).

Rare only gave us Star Fox Adventures, and two Game Boy Advance games, before they went on to Microsoft. To quote one's person opinion on Star Fox Advneutres, "it was Rare's way of giving Nintendo the middle finger". I agree.

Konami hates Nintendo owners, period. Nintendo owners have yet to get a TRADITIONAL DDR game (the Game Boy games and the stupid Disney Dancing Game on N64 barely count), and we still don't have Silent Hill. On the same note, Tecmo is too busy whoring Dead or Alive games every year for X-BOX (with each new game adding in better graphics, a couple of new moves and costumes, and not much else) to care about Nintendo owners (or PlayStation 2 owners). Rockstar pretends Nintendo doesn't exist, and neither does SNK, who thinking putting 2-D games on systems like the X-Box and PlayStation 2 (which can't do 2-D for shit, just like PlayStation 1) is a smart idea, when these games could easily be put on Game Boy Advance if they tried long enough to work with the system. But they've only seemed to do that for Metal Slug..

EA Sports still gives Nintendo owners games, but only because they release all of their sports games on Gamecube, PlayStation 2, and X-Box. Same thing with Activision with their Tony Hawk games, but that's probably just to get more money than anything else.

THQ seems to be the only big company who actually makes ORIGINAL games just for Game Boy Advance. Too bad they're all Nick games, which are inconsistent in quality.

So, let's break it down:

X-Box has the backup of their many development teams (such as the ones of HALO and Fable), Tecmo, Sega, Rockstar (sometimes), Konami (sometimes), Rare, and Electronic Arts.

PlayStation has the backup of Namco, Square Enix (the GOOD version), Sega, Rockstar, Capcom, Electronic Arts, and Konami.

Nintendo have themselves, HAL Labs (Kirby, non-RPG Pokemon games), and Game Freak (Pokemon RPGs), Sonic Team (Adventure, Adventure 2, Heroes), sometimes Capcom and Square Enix (the crap version), and Electronic Arts.

No wonder Nintendo is suffering. All the good companies are either going to the weakest 128-bit gaming system on the market, or the strongest. The Gamecube is neither of those systems, and within the next year, will suffer the same fate the Dreamcast did..

So, if you don't like how everyone treats Nintendo, why continue to support them? Of the three current systems, the GCN is considered to be the most "childish" of the three. So, it makes sense that games with more adult themes are not going to be released for it. I mean, look at the "mascots" for systems. Nintendo has Mario, Microsoft has Master Chief, and Playstation 2 doesn't really have one, IMO. Gamecubes are statistically sold towards a younger demographic, and X-box sells to the older demographic, with the PS2 in the middle. So, of course these companies are going to consider that.

Also, just to be nitpicky, Rockstar games does care about Nintendo. With NFS: Underground released on both GCN and GBA, that hardly seems to be ignoring the systems. As for 2-D fighting games, those things are horrible on the GBA systems. The screen is far too tiny to efficiently move around. Not to mention the eye strain. I much prefer playing those games on the more capable systems.

Lastly, if you're so dissatisfied with Nintendo, then why not purchase the other systems? What's going on with Nintendo is not going to change. What is being released continues to sell well among the target demographic, and there are enough good games to keep older fans interested. Hell, there are two games in particular that make buying a GCN worth it for me: Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2. So, it's time to accept that while Nintendo is still a great system, it is no longer the supreme staple of video games.

I look at it this way: Nintendo's actually going for the casual gamers or the people really looking for multiplayer stuff to do with the family.

Mario Kart, Mario Party, the Super Monkey Ball games, and even SSBM are perfect examples of that - you get a bunch of people together, a few controllers, maybe link two Cubes together, and there you go - hours of fun.

Why the casual gamers? Everyone's heard of Mario, everyone's heard of Zelda, lots of folks have heard of Metroid, and well, when all that fails, there's always sports games, and if nothing else sells, the armchair QBs will buy those.

Nintendo's also got the handheld market locked up, and if nothing else, they can rely on that.

I don't. I haven't a Nintendo game in ages.

I think Nedd for Speed was Electronic Arts. Or did Rockstar acquire the rights?

They may be horrible on GBA, but at least they'd make use of the power of the system. SNK vs. Capcom for the X-Box...looks like a Dreamcast launch title. The 3-D backgrounds in the King of Fighters '94 remake could be on PlayStation 1, and don't even get me started on the recycled sprite fest that is Capcom Fighteing Jam.
Lastly, if you're so dissatisfied with Nintendo, then why not purchase the other systems? What's going on with Nintendo is not going to change.
I have a PlayStation 2 also. I have bought, maybe, six games for both the PlayStation 2 and Gamecube since they came out. I played Dance Dance Revolution more than any other game on PlayStation 2, which is really depressing. I have yet to play the Sly Cooper / Jak and Daxter / Ratchet and Clank series, which I really want to start doing it. Aside from Final Fantasy XII, they're the only games I really want in the future on PlayStation 2. I care zero for Grand Theft Auto, Tekken, and any other major PlayStation 2 franchise.
..it's time to accept that while Nintendo is still a great system, it is no longer the supreme staple of video games.
I've felt that way about Nintendo not being great since 1995, when the PlayStation and Saturn wiped the floor with Nintendo for nearly a whole year until the N64 came out. Then Pokemon came, and Nintendo was (briefly) on top again. Then the N64 died, and the Gamecube hasn't been doing as well as it could (or should), losing out to even Nintendo's own Game Boy Advance in sales.

I just find the video gaming industry in the past decade a depressing one. Two major companies, who have NEVER made video games before in their lives (and in the case of Sony, GOOD video games before) up until their consoles' debut, end up controlling over two-thirds of the market, maybe more. Video gaming has become mainstreaming, supposedly, because of Sony and Microsoft, but as a result, Nintendo has just stopped trying. Pikmin and Animal Crosssing are the only two decent original titles they've cranked out in year, and no doubt Nintendo will make both to the ground, like they did with Pokemon and Mario.

I don't care if Nintendo is kiddy. Many of my favorite video games are E-rated animal platform games. My promise is Nintendo isn't trying anymore. Really, after Metroid Prime 2 comes out, what would Gamecube owners have to look forward to afterwards? A new Legend of Zelda, considering the mixed opinions of The Wind Waker and all? That's it. Mario 128 is a pipe dream for now, and I don't think there will ever be REAL Kirby and Pokemon games on Gamecube. Nintendo is going the way of Sega, except when Nintendo leaves, they say they'll be leaving for good (they refuse to make games for PS2 and X-Box), and all their franchises will go with them.

With only one game I've looked forward to in the past year on Gamecube (Paper Mario 2), and with only action games on PlayStation 2 sparking my interest, sometimes I wonder why I bought next-gen systems at all. Oh well...time to dust off my SNES and replay some ol' Super Mario All-Stars goodness. And I apologize for my rudeness earlier.

I apologize for mine as well. I completely misunderstood your post.
