Miyazaki Wave 2 Delayed (Updated)

Post by sailor53 » Thu Jun 24, 2004 11:41 am

According to DigitalBits & AnimeOnDvd the Miyazaki films that were originally supposed to be released on 8/31 have now been delayed. No new release date is known at this time.

**Update** According to DigitalBits the films have been delayed until early 2005 **Update**
"Well, I'm afraid we've got some bad news for you fans of animation legend Hayao Miyazaki. Disney's recently delayed 2-disc special editions of My Neighbor Totoro, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Porco Rosso, which had been slated for release on 8/31, have now been bumped into early 2005. No official reason was given to us by the studio, but we believe it's to coordinate with the U.S. theatrical release of the currently in the works film by Miyazaki, Howl's Moving Castle. Rest assured, we'll post anything else we hear on this in the coming weeks and months."

Is there any statement saying why they are delayed?

So far there have been no reasons given for the delay.

According to UltimateDisney.com Disney has decided to release these three movies on February 22, 2005. I can't wait.
According to the latest information from Disney, the second wave of Miyazaki titles are now slated for release on February 22, 2005. This trio of two-disc Special Editions (My Neighbor Totoro, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Porco Rosso) was originally scheduled to make their Disney DVD debut last August before getting inexplicably delayed.

That's just the perfect release date for me, since it's two days after my birthday! I could get Nausicaa for my birthday and possibly Porco Rosso, too. I already own the R2 DVD rip for My Neighbor Totoro which includes English subtitles. I may buy the R1 DVD for it sometime, but it's not one of my all-time favorite Miyazaki films, so I won't be buying it anytime soon when they're other films from him I'd rather own more.

I really hope Mr. Miyazaki's films like Nausicaa get a release over here, I'd love to be able to watch them on a normal UK DVD player... I've only seen Spirited Away, but I really enjoyed it and I want to see more of his films. :) Princess Mononoke is next on my list... :)

According to Ultimate Disney & Disney's press release. My Neighbor Totoro has been replaced with The Cat Returns.
We don't enjoy flip-flopping on the Miyazaki Wave 2 date, but now Disney has issued a press release which confirms what we originally reported last month. Wave 2 of Buena Vista's Miyazaki DVDs WILL arrive on February 22, 2005. That day will bring the two-disc special editions of Porco Rosso and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, which were originally scheduled for last August. The third title that was announced, My Neighbor Totoro, has been bumped in favor of Studio Ghibli's 2002 film The Cat Returns. Each DVD will include both the original Japanese audio and new English dubs featuring all-star American casts. As far as bonus features go, each Special Edition will include storyboards, the original Japanese theatrical trailer, and "Behind the Microphone" featurettes on the English-speaking voice talent. See the press release for full details.

Well, that's ok for me....I've already seen My Neighbor Totoro, but I've really been wanting to see The Cat Returns lately. I just hope they don't delay Nausicaa's release anymore than they already have. ><
