4Kids licenses One Piece

Hopefully 4Kids will allow FUNi to do uncut dub/sub release. Otherwise, prepared to see lots of fan backlash.

*Blink* Good lord, the lack of optimism is overwhelming.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

well, with 4kids optimism is pretty much a waste of an emotion. i mean, sure it's annoying when people who won't let go of dragonball z so they trash funimation whenever they get something. the difference between funimation and 4kids: funimation has seen the error of their ways and have tried to change. 4kids is just a wreckingball that destroys anything it comes into contact with. when i see some reason i shouldn't be prejudice against 4kids, i'll say otherwise and forget the past. though, i seriously doubt that will ever happen.

To attempt to defend 4kids, they ARE slowly getting with the program with allowing Funimation to release Shaman King and Yu-Gi-Oh uncut. I agree that anything 4kids is basically guranteed to be treated poorly when compared to the original version, but with them finally allowing uncut versions of their shows to be made, it give me optimism for shows they pick up now. Granted, it will be a while before I can honestly say I wouldn't be disappointed when they get titles, but if this first move is the start of a new way of handling their shows, then I think optimism is no longer a wasted emotion. It's that optimism and feedback to 4kids that helped Saturday's announcement possible, and since I'm sure this will be successful and will probably convince them to allow more of their shows to go uncut. They seem to be turning around slowly, so let's not feel that it's a lost cause when they pick up new shows.

I've never seen One Piece before and I have no clue what the content in the show is like, so I don't know how heavily edited to expect the English dub to be to be made into a kid's show, but with these uncut releases of Yugioh and Shaman King, I think One Piece will have at least a slim chance of an English subtitled release in the U.S. People once thought that English subtitled releases of Shaman King and Yugioh would be impossible, but it has happened, so I think anything can be possible now. We just need to show a little bit of faith in 4kids.

If they saw that we were dissappointed in them (even though we may be in their English dubs), they might take it the wrong way somehow and no longer release English subtitled versions of their anime. I'm not saying that's going to abosuletly happen and I may have screwed up logic here, but my point is that we should at least have some sort of enthuasism in this. Isn't the One Piece manga already avaiable in English and uncut? If it is, we may have a hope to hold on to for an English subtitled release of the anime, since Yugioh and Shaman King both had uncut releases of their manga in the U.S. and then got English subtitled versions of their anime. Hey, it could happen, right?

Oh boy... 4Kids...

One of the things, to quote Ben Affleck, that many otaku claim to hate, yet they can't stop discussing it, along with Relena, Miaka, Sailor Moon Super S, Tenchi in Tokyo, Dragon Ball GT, Robotech, etc.

What is their current track record so far, Yu-Gi-Oh notwithstanding?

But they need to be inspired, and let's face it, 'Superman'...the last time you really inspired anyone... was when you were dead." -- Batman, to Superman, Infinite Crisis, issue 1

Isn't 4-Kids in charge of the new TMNT cartoon? I've been watching that somewhat faithfully, and they do a pretty good job with it; there's a good level of maturity in it which suggests to me that any changes made to One Piece - in terms of dubbing it - might be minimal.

Of course, I'm talking about on how they handle the anime they imported.

I'll have to admit that 4Kids has gone downhill since they butchered Mewtwo Strikes Back, but of course, WB would have to share the blame as well.

Send some of the blame to the FCC as well. And to some of the soccer moms who don't have lives of their own. :x

Oh, for the love of God, people. In America, these shows are intended for children. Not teenagers, not adults. Children. The FCC really isn't that bad. I wouldn't want my children seeing many of the things in anime until I was sure they were mature enough for it. And while I do think that parents need to accept responsibility, that doesn't mean censoring is a bad thing. All of us did things as kids that our parents didn't know about. Parents can not monitor children all the time.

Besides...half of you have downloaded fansubs of the show anyway. What does it matter to you? Stick with your fansubs, or buy subtitled DVDs if they are released. Just please, stop bitching about how awful a show is going to be when you have alternatives to the "awful dub."

And those of you who haven't seen it: www.boxtorrents.com
They have subs of licensed shows. You can download them to your heart's content.

What about those of us who DON'T have our own computers and have to log on at a public library?

1) Find a place that sells the fansubs, order it from the public library computer, and use the powers of patience to wait for it to come in the mail.

2) If you still cannot do that for some reason or another (that I really don't care to hear, becuase I've heard them all at least a dozen times before), then quit bitching and move on. There are unfortunate situations for EVERYONE. If your most tragic thing in life is that you can't see a certain anime becuase you can't download it or you don't like the release, then my god, trade with me now. It's not the end of the world.
