Uncut Yu-Gi-Oh and Shaman King!

Post by Umino » Sat Jun 05, 2004 3:16 pm

From Anime on DVD:
Funimation then even announced an uncut Yu-gi-oh release. It's still the first season that 4Kids came out, and it also comes out on Oct 19. Two volumes will be coming out for both Shaman King and Yu-gi-oh, and pricing may be estimated at around 3 episodes at $19.98. The release schedule is dependant on sales.

Yay! I'm so exicited! Even though we're still not getting the Thousand Piece Puzzle arc licensed, at least we're getting some uncut Yugioh in the U.S. and some uncut Yugioh is better than none. I love this series and I definetly plan on buying the DVDs the moment they're released!

:D :D :D

YES! Now just for some uncut releases of Pocket Monsters, etc...

they should just release the Thousand Piece Puzzle arc for video/DVD, not TV because editing that would be hell. *shudder*

think trying to edit a hentai for a TV, it is all kinds of stuff that is considered horrible. Aka, a P.E. teacher tries to rape Anzu.

Don't count on it. Supposly, Ninetendo is the one behind all the name changes and such of Pokemon, plus I heard somewhere they don't want a subbed release.

Which idea? I agree with you about the subbed release thing, but I think quite a few of the name changes are improvements...

Well for Shaman King, the names will be the same as the Saturday Morning version. Everything else is uncut though.

I can't wait. I'll definitely be buying Shaman King, but I'm not sure if I'll be buying Yu-Gi-OH or not though.

To be fair to Nintendo, Pokemon didn't have genders yet when they named the first batch of them...

WHAT!? why?! where did you read that? that doesn't even make sense. why change their names to begin with? shaman king's first english language release (shounen jump) kept their original names anyway. besides if your gonna keep names like "amidamaru" then why the hell change an easy to pronounce name like "manta" to freakin' "mortimor"!?

i would have to disagree. i really hate the bad puns they make the pokemon's names in english. X: bulbasaur, and squirtle. they get even worse later on, but i stopped memorizing names after the sekei league. and i really hate the way they always find a way to slip the pun pokemon's name into the title. and then there are really dumb things they do, like this: popo, pijion, pijiotto becomes pidgey, pidgeotto, pidgeot. why? stuff like that makes absolutely no sense at all. but then, that's just me...

I was in the second row of the Funimation panel, and can confirm that yes, the dub itself will still retain the names in the 4kids dub. Lance explained why that was being done, I forgot to pack my notebook so I don't have notes about what he said, but I'm fairly sure it was something in the contract between them and 4kids where they still had to use the dub names in the dub. Not completely sure on that, I would honestly try to find someone else on the net who took notes on more of what Lance said when he was explaining the issue. The sub will have the original names and such, so for people who don't bother with dubs, the name thing isn't even an issue.

Yep, Lance did say that it will be redubbed, though still with the 4Kids dub names. There was a fairly clear reason why the dub names will remain, but I can't remember excatly what was said for that. I'll check around other reports when I get home, but to make it clear, the series WILL be redubbed, and the dub names will remain, beyond that I don't know or remember what Lance said. I'm still kicking myself for forgetting my notebook. -_-;;

well, if funimation redubs it than we can expect better voices, better scripts, and original music. couple of +s right there. burn in hell 4kids! i know, they're still involved, but it feels good to say.

Speaking from my own opinion and not from info given by Lance at the panel, I believe that the VAs will most likely be the same since I think that the redub will be just some editting of the existing dub and addition of new lines by the cut scenes. Original music is a definite though. Hopefully I'm wrong about the redub though and that it will completely be redone. It might have been mentioned, but I can't remember.
