The Return of Digimon

Post by Cardcaptor Takato » Tue May 25, 2004 8:44 am

According to this, http://www.digibros.net/digimon2005.htm it seems they're producing a new Digimon anime in Japan, but it's all in CGI animation! The article seems to indicate it's going to be a movie rather than a tvseries and I've heard rumors that it's being based on the Digimon Chronicle manga, but I can't say that for sure. I can definetly say this, that I'm not sure if I should be happy or scared by these new developments. I'm happy that they're producing more Digimon, but sad that it's going to be all in CGI because I don't really care for CGI animation very much. I'm more of a fan of classic hand-drawn style of art. I'll still probably wind up watching a fansub of this when it's released, but I still don't know what I think of all this. What's your opinion on it?

Well...I don't really know what to think. I, like you, think that it's awesome that they're producing some more Digimon...But it's been my experience that with every knew season (even though this might be a movie) that I end up disliking it more, and more...And I'm not that keen on CGI. So I'll see it, but it's a mystery if I'll like it or not.

I thought 3-D was tacky in every Digimon series (I infinitely prefer 2-D hand-drawn art in anime). And the total focus on Digimon, specifically uncute Digimon..I don't like the looks of this.

:is having mixed emotions like the rest: I actually gave up when the third season came out. It wasn't a continuation of the previous two and I didn't like that (that and the really bad dialog was very irritating).

Is Vamdemon going to be in it? :D If not then their's no point in watching it

I'm not too keen with Digimon, I disliked the first two seasons, thought third was okay, but loved the fourth. Now that a fifth is being made, but only with CGI lowers my expectations on how I'm going to like it.

I was surprised that it was released so soon, but I just finished watching a fansub of the new Digimon movie, Digimon X-Evolution and it was an awesome film. I was still disappointed that there weren't any human characters in it or that the entire movie was CGI animated, but the storyline was really good. It's definitely been the most depressing Digimon anime to date, but I still think Juri is the most angsty Digimon character. All the Digimon were awesome in this movie, my personal new favorite being Alphamon. The ending was very good too, although a little confusing. I think it could've explained some things in greater detail, but overall it was a very well done movie. I'm kind of hoping Toei will continue to produce Digimon movies like this instead of full seasons and I'd like to see more of this version of the Digital World. Anyway, I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it to any Digimon fan.

I hope it's ok for me to bump up this thread instead of starting another new thread, but according to ANN, Diabolomon Strikes Back is now being dubbed in English! Quoted from ANN, "Digimon 02: Revenge of Diabormon will air on Toon Disney on August 5, 2005 at 7:00 PM and on ABC Family Jetix on August 6, 2005 at 9:00 AM. Thanks to Tyler Schug for this item." Rumor has it that all the Digimon movies are now going to be dubbed and the release of this movie seems to confirm it. Even though I already have all the movies fansubbed, I can't wait for this movie to be released in the U.S.! I'm curious to see how it'll be dubbed. Hopefully, it'll be handled better than the first three Digimon movies were.

There's updated Digimon news! This site, http://www.digimonhimitsu.com/ reports that Toei is working on a new Digimon TV series entitled "Digimon Savers." The new series is slated to premiere on Japanese television sometime this April. There are some rumors floating around on the Internet that it could be a Tamers sequel, but nothing official has been confirmed about that yet. However, it has been reported that humans will definetly be in this new series and it looks like Toei will be going back to having Digimon partners for the humans for this anime. And even though no news has been made yet if any dubbing companies plan on licensing this series, WolfPack Productions (http://www.wpp-fansubs.com/) has announced that they will fansub this series when it's aired. I for one am very exicited about this development. I'm even more exicited that this new series will feature the return of human characters. I just personally hope that it isn't a sequel to Tamers. Even though Tamers was my favorite season of Digimon, I don't have much hope in Toei for producing a sequel to any Digimon seasons, especially after seeing the horror of 02, but here's hoping for another good season of Digimon.

CGI anime is just wrong. The hand style stuff is better. We don't want our cartoons looking more realistic, it just removes the surealism of them...
Another series of Digimon could be good though.

I miss Digimon. Tamers was meh favorite season because it was more serious than the previous. Savers sound pretty cool, I like the idea of the CGI. It's a big change for the TV series but not necessarily for Digimon since the Digimon X-Evolution movie was all in CGI.

GREAT movie, by the way.

WiththeWill has subbed the first 6 episodes of Savers and its really good. It's not in CG animation, but the animation style IMO has taken a turn for the better.

If anyone wishes to the episodes are available for direct download at http://digimon.terra-technologies.com/
