ROD TV: what are your thoughts?
Has anyone seen the Read or Die released by Manga Entertainment last year? I thought it was completely amazing. I loved all the action and everything. I also thought Yomiko's obsession for books was fascinating. So, I downloaded episodes 1-3 last night from www.downloadanime.org. Apparently, Geneon now has the rights for ROD TV and will be releasing the series soon. You can view the article at http://www.icv2.com/articles/home/4546.html

I love Read or Die. I think it's awesome, mostly because I can relate to the main character. Books rule! The idea of paper being controled by a person is very interesting, and the ways Yomiko uses it throughout the series is very cool....And the Joker happens to be one of my biggest anime crushes. Blond hair. Whoot! *_*
I haven't seen the Read or Dream series, but if it's any where near Read or Die, I want to see it.

Dave : Gonna cry about it?
Mr. James : Not even.
Dave : I''m sitting on a rather sharp tack.
Mr. James : That's gotta hurt.
Dave : Well, life's a bitch...

Read or Dream is awesome. Read or Die focuses on Yomiko while Read or Dream focuses on the Paper Sisters, Michelle, Maggie and Anita. They also have the ability to manipulate paper, just like Yomiko.Lady of the Light wrote:I love Read or Die. I think it's awesome, mostly because I can relate to the main character. Books rule! Hmm... Sounds interesting.. I may get the fansubs from downloadanime.org as well... Anyone who wants to download a series from there'll need BitTorrent which can be gotten here: http://www.bitconjurer.org/BitTorrentRoastedTwinkies wrote:Read or Dream is awesome. Great Guardians!! I Have "Read or Die" at home and viewed it for the first time! It's GOOD!!!!
Too bad Yomiko didn't team up with Firestorm, the Nuclear Man.

I'm writing this Sailor Moon/Green Lantern crossover AU fic called "Emerald Sunrise". It's a hybrid of Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi, Romance, and Comedy. It's about Ami (Sailor Mercury) getting a new boyfriend who just happens to be a member of The Green Lantern Corps. I'm also throwing in some other characters from other animes and some old Hanna-Barbera cartoons from the late '60's early '70's. I'm also illustrating it as well.
Wish me luck. I'm gonna need it.

I only downloaded the OVA and it was awesome. Now if only I can get the DVD with a DTS track. Does anyone know if the R1 release has DTS 5.1 surround sound? I know a bootleg that does and that's just plain weird.
Anyway, I am looking forward to ROD TV because it's setting is my birth place.
But it's sad the main character is not Yomiko. It looks too kiddy from some covers I've seen. I heard the action is just as good so, I guess that makes up for it.
The released date for ROD TV the R1 DVD first volume is on June 29, 2004.
There's also a limited edition set. Check it out here:

That's awesome! I think I like the special edition packaging more than the original one.Sakuya wrote:I only downloaded the OVA and it was awesome. Now if only I can get the DVD with a DTS track. I also have Vol 1 of "Read or Dream".
Hopefully I'll get Vols. 2, 3, 4, and so on.
I can't wait to see more of The Paper Sisters.
( I hang out at libraries, heck, I practically LIVE at a library in my hometown.)

I'm finally getting the ROD TV Vol.1 as a gift! Is it good?
I heard that there is a noticeable difference between the DVD and the TV versions. I think the money/paper is more detailed while on the TV, it's just a gray piece of paper. I think...I don't remember where I saw that but they had lots of comparisons with pictures.

If I remember correctly, this November it will be aired on TV here. I can't remember if it'll be the OVA or the TV series that airs, I'm too lazy to check through news articles right now, but I'm pretty sure I remember at least one of the two set to air this year.

That's really interesting. I'm sure it's going to be a little while longer before it airs in Canada. That's how it always seems to be when it comes to importing anime to North America. The US always gets the show first.MarioKnight wrote:If I remember correctly, this November it will be aired on TV here. I saw the first 8 episodes of ROD The TV. It's hella boring.
Where did all the action go?! I was expecting action every episode like the OVA. The first episode was satisfying and then it just went..poof and got replaced by drama, drama and more drama. And no hand-to-hand combat action in episodes 5 to 8 at ALL.
I'm majorly disappointed.
If anyone has seen the entire series via fansubs, can you please tell me if it will get better/worse?
I am still comtemplating if I should put the boring 5 to 8 on CD for completeness sakes?
I haven't seen past the eighth episode, but my friend said that about midway through the series, Yomiko returns and we get a bit more action.
Sakuya wrote:I saw the first 8 episodes of ROD The TV. I finished the series! It wasn't as good as the OVA action-wise. After watching the OVA, I think most people would be looking for action. So it's a big disappointment there.
Now I must wait for the US DVD release because they have the 5.1 surround sound. I wish Blockbuster would pick it up so I can get it more cheap.
