Oh, My Goddess

Post by whitewolf05 » Wed Mar 31, 2004 10:24 am

The three main goddess are really the goddess of fate. If you ask me this was most likely what was used to create Tenchi, one guy and tons of women after him both the good kind and the bad kind. Lucky dude.

...This is your topic? This doesn't open discussion to much of anything. I assume you're speaking of Verdandi (Belldandy), Urda (Urd), and Skuld (skuld), and how their names are actually taken from names of actual goddesses from legends?

Either elaborate on this topic, or it'll be locked. This doesn't open ANY sort of discussion.

Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Actually, the idea of Tenchi Muyo! came from Bubblegum Crisis. The creators of Techi Muyo! even said themselves that they worked on that OAV series before beginning work on Tenchi Muyo!. Let's look at this timeline, shall we:

Bubblegum Crisis- 1985
Oh! My Goddess manga- 1989
Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki- 1992
Oh! My Goddess OAV series- 1993

As you can see, Bubblegum Crisis predates Oh! My Goddess by four years, even in its manga form. Just wanted to point that out.

Getting back on topic, I've seen the first episodes, and I liked it, I guess. However, I prefer the movie.

Tenchi wasn't really taken from AMG. Many nifty girls and one normal boy is a common cliche (or, to say nicely, "plot device") in anime.

Eh? Tenchi Muyo and Bubbegum Crisis don't share any common plot elements, so I wouldn't call them related at all. Comparing them is exactly like comparing apples and oranges. Sure, they're both fruits, and they both taste sweet, but they don't have anything else in common. In this case, yes, they're both OAV's (note that I am not referring to BGC Tokyo 2040 or any of the TM TV series) and the same people might have worked on them, but they aren't related at all. I certainly wouldn't say the idea of Tenchi Muyo came from Bubblegum Crisis.

Neither BGC nor TM is related in any way, shape, or form to Ah! My Goddess, which is one of my favorite OAV series. I like Mini-Goddess too. :)

One of the guys from BGC was said to be the inspiration of Tenchi the character (not exactly the idea of the Tenchi series, though). However, I don't remember if this is even true or not...it's been a while since I read the interview.

Hmm, to add a bit to the discussion...

I've read the manga, and I thought it was odd because it looked old compared to the Sailor Moon mangas, though there is not much time between them lol.

I've seen the OVA, but not the movie, and I loved it. Though I think it was a bit rushed to have a 5 volume OVA and a more-than-25-volumes manga. You lose so much during the conversion ^^;;

And I just love the fact that Aya Hizakawa (Sailor Moon Anime Japanese Dub - Sailor Mercury) plays Skuld, and that Inoue Kikuko (if the spelling is correct - Sailor Moon Anime Japanese Dub - Sailor Aluminum Siren) plays Belldandy. I loooooooove Belldandy so much ^^;;

And that opening song, isn"t it cute, too ^^;; ?

I've seen all of AMG except the mini goddess series. And I endjoyed it all. It's on my favorites list. I'd like to check out the manga. I love Urd. She's just so cool and beautiful.

I heard they're making a tv series. I forgot what the site was :/ but it was trustworthy

I've read all the manga (a forum I frequent put up a link to a place to download it from, and I did) and I also have seen the movie and some of the Mini-Goddess series (which is pretty cute and funny, imo). The movie is really good, too.

I've seen the OVAs, and enjoyed them immensely. Nice, romantic, and very entertaining. Can't say the same about the manga, though. Didn't like those as much, partly because I didn't like the art, or the stories contained in the volume I bought. But oh well.
As for the opening theme, I love the song, but when a friend of mine listened to it, she thought that the singer sang "Don't eat meat" in the first few lines. O.o

Mr. James : Not even.
Dave : I''m sitting on a rather sharp tack.
Mr. James : That's gotta hurt.
Dave : Well, life's a bitch...
Mr. James : ...And then you die.
Dave : My...

Dave : ...my.

Well, I guess that proves a A!MG TV Series is not happening. News from ANN is almost as accurate as news from SOS. :roll:

Actually I'm not even sure if that was the site. And I too though that ANN was supposed to be reliable.

Has anyone seen the new TV series yet? I just saw the first episode yesterday. So far I think its pretty good. The animation is nice. I like the OP song but I don't really care for the ED song very much. The background music is good though. You can find the first episode subbed here.

Nope, but I really want to. Don't have the space to downoad it and stuff right now, though. I hear the animation's lovely.

I want to see the TV series too. But my computer is too slow to download the files ;_;

Also, is it just me, or the character designs look a little...more cutesy and childish than the OAVs and movie?
