Does anyone like or dislike the new format Viz has taken with the Ranma manga? I didn't make too much of it until last week when I was at a Barnes and Noble. I was browsing the manga section when a man and woman walked up, and the woman grabs one of the new graphic novels and just starts ranting about how inferior the new format is compared to the old ones, which were a work of art.
I do prefer the cover art on the previous graphic novels, but I like that the new ones are cheaper. Ranma is one of my favorite manga series and I've collected them all but I'm on a budget so this helps me. You can probably blame TokyoPop for this for coming out with those 9.99 graphics novels that Viz has to compete with.

I like the new look, infact, I'm pretty sure that it's how the original Japanese volumes looked. I'm not positive, but I heard a rummor that they were also more accurate in translation, but again, that's just a rummor.

I didn't like the overly large graphic novels by Viz. Why do they do that? And it's $15. I know the Vampire Princess Miyu manga was also that size.
It won't fit nicely on my shelf! Anyway, I do appreciate Viz because they released it in my favorite size and at a lower price too!
Haven't bought it yet though. The covers look interesting.
I'm used to the old ones, but I don't mind the new ones at all. They're pretty.
Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Hmm..$15.95 vs. $9.95? The new format wins with my wallet! I think that the newer Ranma books have more eye-catching covers than the older Ranma books did. I am waiting to see the new editions of Maison Ikkoku, as they are restoring the cut chapters from the previous editions, although the "new" backwards (to my eyes) format of this new version will take some getting used to. I don't know if they will stop flipping Ranma around or not.
