What animes would you like/ not like to see in Live Action?

Post by Anna Roz » Tue Feb 24, 2004 2:24 pm

Okay, I'm sure you all know about the live-action Evangelion and the possible Dragonball Z feature, but let's discuss something else: Which other animes would you like to see a live action movie/series made of, and which ones do you think would not be suitable candidates?

Although FLCL is definetely one of the strangest anime out there, I think it would be funny to see a live action film or something made of it. I'd watch it for the pure craziness of it all..and then probably MST it myself..

Dragonball. Yes, Dragonball. Even though there's some Taiwan/Hong Kong film out there called "Dragonball: The Magic Begins", I'd like to see how someone would be able to handle this one. I mean, if they're going to make a live action "Dragonball Z", why not start with the first story? Eh, and if it turned out bad, well, anyone up for an MST party?

As for an example of what I'd NOT like to see..

Tokyo (or "Hollywood") Mew Mew adapted into live action over here. Knowing how they plan to trash the show, I don't think I could handle seeing a "Hollywood Mew Mew" live action feature. But if it went direct-to-video, or failed at the box office, I'd rent it and have a little MST night at my house..

Pokemon. Although it'd be funny to see how they'd pull THAT off, believe me, 4kids would probably be behind it, and if they can get a few scenes from the 4th movie reanimated to fit their liking, they'd probably try to cash in more green with a live action film..And for some reason, I can picture Disney being behind it too..
I don't think I could MST this one, too much to handle. IMO, I'd think it'd turn out more like "The Country Bears" rather than like "Pirates Of The Carribean"..

Anyone else want to contribute?

Hoshi no Kaabi. Since there are quite a few spherical people including villians and that, and I don't know how someone would pull off Fuma accuratley anyway, they would completely and utterly screw it up. No way.

I My Me! Strawberry Eggs! It's not what they would do to it, it's just...the thought of it that's creepy. I have a hard time imagining how they would pull the voice converter scene off, because we see Hibiki's voice changing, and I have a few doubts that a male would be able to pull that off, or vica-versa for a female. Plus all the explosives and guns Ba-Chan uses.

Me: This is coming from the kid who doesn't know what Viagra is!
Ko: It's cold medicine, right?
Our Group: NO!!!
Me: Can I just say?
Dylan: Sure, it's no weirder than what normally comes out of your mouth.
Me: (says what)
Ko: .....What's that?
Me: ......*starts crying*
Carley: STEVE! STEVE GET OVER HERE AND TELL KO WHAT VIAGRA DOES!
Steve: See, it's like this: The bridge goes up and the soldiers rush out....

Tiff: Aww, you killed someone for me. That's so sweet in a f***ed up sort of way!

I'd like to see Marmalade Boy live-action. It wouldn't be difficult to do at all. A live-action Azumanga Daioh would be very interesting as well.

I'd absolutely HATE to see a live action Inuyasha!!!!! it scares me to think about what they'd do for the monsters... there's only things that work in the anime.... (heh one of them is the multiple pass... OMG!!!!!!!!!)

-_- There is a live-action Inuyasha, actually. It's a play, iirc.

Slayers. Sure, the effects would probably be cheesy, but I'd love to see a live-action Lina Inverse and Gourry Gabriev.

Perfect Blue would also make a really awesome live-action movie...really suspenseful.

Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

I think a live-action Ranma 1/2 would be interesting, considering all the species/gender changes characters do. As for ones I wouldn't want to see, Barefoot Gen would be on the top of that list because if the ANIME scared and grossed me out, a live-action would be worse. (I generally tolerate grosser stuff in animation than in live-action)

Whoa, wait a minute... there's a live action Evangelion? When did this happen? I wanna know how they are going to pull off all those crazy Eva fights.

Some good anime that could become live action is Only Yesterday,
Last Exile, and Shirahime Syo. Only Yesterday has a sorta mellow plot that doesn't contain too much jarring zaniness that would be translated awkwardly in live action. The people behave pretty realistically, and the emotions are really authentic. Last Exile could make a pretty good sci-fi/steam-punk series and the characters behave pretty realistically. I would love to see a historical romance fantasy series based on Shirahime Syo. I have seen a bunch of Hong Kong live action series like that, and there is great material in Shirahime Syo.

Originally I would say that it would have been impossible to create a decent live action Sailormoon series, but apparently they managed to pull it off... :D .

I don't think I would like Mononoke-Hime turned into live action. That would be too weird...Seeing all the boars and then the wolves....Those would be hard to to...And can you imagine a plushie Moro? That would be....insane.

Yes, there's talk of a live-action Evangelion film here in the US. I'm sure if you type it into a search engine or something you might be able to find something on it. I've seen it on some anime news sites too. Apparently, Asuka is going to be called "Kate Rose" and Rei's going to be called "Ray" if I remember correctly. The news was announced a while back..I'm a bit doubtful that the movie will be a hit, as some live-action adaptations of things over here tend to either gain popularity for a while and then die down, or completely bomb and become punch-lines. I'm also a bit doubtful about the Dragonball Z one, too. I'd like to know how they'd pull of the special effects in BOTH movies..

But anyway, I think a live-action Ranma would be..well..interesting, to say the least. How they'd pull off the gender-changing and manage to find an actor and actress who look somewhat alike to play the respective parts of Boy Type Ranma and Girl Type Ranma, is beyond me.

Magic Knight Rayearth would be nice, depending on who would be directing the movie, that is. Get the wrong script-writers and production staff, and they'd trash it up. They'd probably throw aside Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu's battle armor and dress them in skimpy dominatrix gear, to 'sex' up the characters and market it to teenage boys..

Another film I'd be afraid to see is..a live action Hamtaro. Now that would be SCARY..Would they use puppets or CGI? Or actors in furry hamster suits digitally 'shrunken' to look like hamsters? EEEK!

Considering I'm sad after seeing the end of Cardcaptor Sakura, I'd have to say that. I don't know how good the little kid actors would be, but I still think it would be cool.

I would totally love to see a live action Card Captor Sakura. It would be so awesome if they'd do the ending like the manga.

Ah My Goddess in live action might be kind of cute.

Do they have any live action of Clamp Campus Detectives? That's another good one I'd like to see. Have some of 20 Faces mixed with it.

Ummmm....live action wise....I don't think there's much that I wouldn't like. Just about everything would be interesting to have done.

Maybe they could use male/female twins, or, not having that, make-up jobs?

I heard the Eva movie is going to be done by the people who made the LOTR movies, so the special effects should be pretty damn good. I've seen some designs for the Evas themselves, and they look really cool, actually.

At least that's one bright spot in the fact that its being made in the U.S. Considering that the Evangelion plot is basically about mankind fighting against God, I would think the religious aspect of Evangelion would be mutilated. I can see those crazy Christian activist groups boycotting the whole thing as a sacreligious tribute to Satan and Evolution and whatnot, especially considering the religious fervor America is in. They would either make the plot in to some generic man vs alien sci-fi.

There are so many Live Actions already, what else is left? All the good ones to have done were already mentions  MKR would be pretty cool. Hmm, maybe Chobits wouldn't be too bad. Haha, lucky guy to play Hideki  Oh! The most would be Fruits Basket! That would be so cute :D Zodiac P.I., the best investigator LA I would see. Spica/Lili is just so awsome in it that I would love to see her in action. X-Day, although never an anime I guess because it is a 2 volume Manga, would make a cool short Live Action series. I mean, students could relate to it.

One's that should never happen, or have the slim chance of it are the DBZ movie. No, just burry that teaser poster and go work on something else. I am sick of DBZ everywhere. Kill it! Di Gi Charat would be a let down. They talk so fast and cute in the anime, that the live action couldn't keep up. Saber Marionette J. The way with the gigantic breasts and such, it just couldn't make it with the LA.

Heh, you're a bit too late on that one. Fox (I'm pretty sure it was them) picked up rights to do live action DBZ movies in the US a couple years ago. Within a week of that, the WB picked up rights to do live avtion Akira. Nothing has followed up on those announcements as of yet.

So, it has begun. The occurance of 14 LA Dragona Balls has begun. I hate you Fox.

Also to add what I would like LA, is Wedding Peach. It seems like it would be a cute show with the whole wedding dresses. Makes you want to play dress up

I think the hair would be a bigger problem than the breasts, since some characters *coughCherrycough* have some freaky hairstyles
