Once the diehard Macross fans get word of this, heads will start rolling.
The story here is that there's some controversy over who owns the international rights (outside of Japan) to the Macross franchise.
These court battles resulted in Big West/Studio Nue owning the Character and mecha design rights, while Tatsunoko owns the production rights. And these battles only pertain to the first TV series, and only in Japan.
So far, Harmony Gold has maintained that it has the international license to the entire franchise, which is why we won't see anything Macross-related, aside from the aformentioned first TV series, as well as Macross II and Macross Plus. This ruling also indirectly affects Robotech, as well.
Earlier, HG wanted to import the Macross 7 Trash manga through TokyoPop, but so far, it looks like it's been shot down.
What are your two cents?

"After all these years, you know it's not about control. It's about trying to do everything I can. And for you, it's about setting an example. Everyone looks up to you. They listen to you. If you tell them to fight, they'll fight. But they need to be inspired, and let's face it, 'Superman'...the last time you really inspired anyone... was when you were dead." -- Batman, to Superman, Infinite Crisis, issue 1
