Gomen nasai, I'm just getting excited for ACen a few months too early...
Um....at every single convention i've gone to, if a show is licensed by a company, you are not allowed to sell fansubs or bootlegged merchandise.
I did not know that. I thought that it was allowed if the only licensed version was a dub...oh well.

Hmm, maybe I can find raw tapes...

I imagine you'll still be able to find fansubs floating around the internet. >.>

After seeing all the Pokemon movies (in raw Japanese, and comparing them), as well as dumbing down Pokemon (the latter Johto episodes as well as Advanced Generation), I'm thinking about hopping on the anti-4Kids bandwagon.

If you think Yu-Gi-Oh was bad, 4Kids went downhill with the Americanized version of "Mewtwo Strikes Back".

There are two places I know of where you can get Pokemon fansubs:

1. Riibu-chan's Anime Outpost *click*
2. Random Masters *click*

As for actually becoming Anti-4Kids, I have mixed feelings about joining. I still have a sliver of hope for them, in that I want them to release subtitled versions (albeit under the influence of FUNimation), and Pokemon---when its old-school series was dubbed well---got me into the series and anime as a whole in the first place.

I'll wait. ^-^

I'll be first to join ^_^ Seriously, does 4Kids get GOOD feedback? I mean, I want to see what people are writing. Do the 4Kids executives look at the mail? I bet they don't. As...what ever his name is stated that they care about "kids" and how they feel about the show, not "anime fans". I can't beleive the crap they say. Hope a meteor strikes their houses!

Yep. Any kind of license. But like Ni-ban Neko said, i'm sure there'll still be tons of fansubs and video clips floating around.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Thank you, Ni-ban Neko, since that's probably how I'm going to be able to view the series at ALL, considering I don't think I get FoxBox. (unless...does that mean it's going to be on the same channel as The Simpsons?)

I didn't find out about this until a couple of hours ago ... I didn't check anime news stuff Sunday (I was watching the Super Bowl + had people over, so I didn't have time).

Anyway, I think my reaction was like everyone else's ... shock. I mean, Tokyo Mew Mew is one of my favourite shows, and now it's going to become "Hollywood Mew Mew". I have a hard time saying (or typing) that title without doing a combination laugh/sob.

I wonder what Honobono is going to do ... they've already fansubbed up to Episode 34. Will they pull an Inuyasha and keep going, seeing how they're quite far into the series (granted, Inuyasha was a lot farther in before it was licensed + released, but still it's the best example I could come up with), or will they stop?

Anyway, I am very sad now. :(

My personal opinion on fansubs for this series is that they won't be stopped, especially since 4kids got this anime. Hell, fansubbers and distros can hide behind a grey area arguing that subs are ok since there's no uncut release planned (similar to what we SM distros and subbers did years ago prior to seasons getting picked up for uncut releases).

I agree, Dan. I personally see no problem in subbing a hacked-up release if there's no sub planned. However, if there's a licensed sub on DVD or such, then releasing a fansub is just rude.

But I digress. I'm going to go cry over TMM now...

If you think them just dubbing it is bad, listen to the original japanese Yugioh and Pocket Monsters theme songs and compare them to the dub songs. There's no way 4kids would spend their precious money to have a translated, English version of the TMM theme, so instead theyll probably release some dumb song that keeps repeating the title of the show over and over while some idiot bashes his head into a synthesizer..*imagines the horror*

*Note: dumb theme is only my guess

Hollywood..Hollywood Mew Mew (Mew!)
Hollywood..Hollywood Mew Mew (Mew!)
Gotta be tough, gotta fight the evil, gotta..gotta..gotta be a Mew Mew!
Hollywood! Hollywood Mew Mew!
Mew! Mew! Mew! Hollywood Mew Mew!
Mew! Mew! Mew! Hollywood Mew Mew!
HOLLYWOOD MEW MEW! (Meeeeeewww!)

Anyone want to join me in building a rocket to tie the 4kids people to and launch it off into outer space and watch it explode? Anyone?

I thought some of the English Pokemon songs were actually pretty good...
"Tell my tale to those who ask... tell it truthfully, the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly. The rest... is silence..." last words of Dinobot, "Code of Hero"
"Is that a poisonous elephant in your pocket or are you happy to see me?" ~another forum
"Monster! I''''m going to collide with you indefinitely as my limbs flail wildly about!" ~NPC, Dragon Warrior VII
"I bet you were thinking how hot it would be to see Tsunade with her gates wide open, inviting you..." ~DuneMan
"To use gaming terms, Tyrannosaurus Rex was a camper--- and he pwned his prey!" ~BaronVonAwesome
"I prefer to beat my opponents the old-fashioned way: brutally!" ~Dinobot

I quite liked the Shaman King dub opening theme song myself...
"If we can''t comprehend the plan at hand, how could a higher plan make any more sense? I'd say you can only be a martyr if you know what you are dying for, and choose it"-Elphaba

"Those who made mistakes blame themselves and close their hearts. It's impossible to fix a mistake. Man can't return to the past. That's why we drink. Drunks, lushes, sliding alcohol down their throats to dilute the memories that can't be denied.-Vash The Stampede"

Ok, I finally got on here and I am dumbstruck beyond belief. Hollywood Mew Mew? Obviously they can't read a map down there at 4Kids.

guess I'll be making sure to stock up on the manga until things get better.

Ok, I just checked their website. We're all doomed. I was trying to find a speck of hope, but I can't find any. Anybody feel like protesting or something? It might be our only hope.

Tokyo Mew Mew is doomed.

I read this on GameFAQs, and it ruined my good day. Sent it out the window. I've been steaming and stewing over it since. How will they make it seem like Hollywood? Put the hill with those letters on it in the background of random scenes?

I'm definately writing a letter, and I'm bringing it to school to get my friends to sign it as well.

Anubi: Oh God.
Anubi: I just saw Mog/Terra hentai.
Kari: XDDDDDDDDDDDD
Anubi: My life is snow scarred.
Kari: ooooo, snow
Anubi: Oo, fun.
Anubi: SNOW SCARRED.
Anubi: WHOO.

If they are the racist bast***s people says they are, then why are they even licensing Japanese shows in the first place? They're just thinking about profits. Do they still think that US is the #1 nation in the world? No offense... I heard that the Valley of the Wind Nausicaa dub was cut up so badly, Ghibli forbidded them to release it. Or was that for another anime? Well I certainly hope the Japanese company do the same thing for this. Then, 4Kids will know just how badly they are doing with anime. So far, we have seen several anime being dubbed by them and none of them are good. They seriously need to improve if they want better profits! :x

Edit:
If they are ever at an anime convention, I'm sure they will be bombarded by riots.

They aren't marketing to fans, and I think that's a problem. There IS a fanbase, which is being ignored. It's going to look awfully weird when a little girl points out TokyoPop's Tokyo Mew Mew release and asks her mom why the name is wrong. Not good, Unsuitable4Kids.
