Super Gal!

Post by Celexa » Sat Oct 18, 2003 12:30 am

I haven't seen this, so does anyone have information? It certainly looks cute, but I'd like to know whether it's good or not or sounds interesting before I go out and spend thirty bucks on fansubs.

Me: This is coming from the kid who doesn't know what Viagra is!
Ko: It's cold medicine, right?
Our Group: NO!!!
Me: Can I just say?
Dylan: Sure, it's no weirder than what normally comes out of your mouth.
Me: (says what)
Ko: .....What's that?
Me: ......*starts crying*
Carley: STEVE! STEVE GET OVER HERE AND TELL KO WHAT VIAGRA DOES!
Steve: See, it's like this: The bridge goes up and the soldiers rush out....

Tiff: Aww, you killed someone for me. That's so sweet in a f***ed up sort of way!

Well... I have the first volume of the series from ADV, so I'll try to help a little.

Eh... well... darn, I'm not good with descriptions. :? I'll go with ADV's, even though it isn't the best one:
They’re smart, they’re hip, and they’ll shop ‘til they drop. Allow us to introduce the super chic SuperGALS!, the sharpest pack of high school escapees to ever roam the streets of Shibuya.

But watch out for their leader, Ran Kotobuki. When this rebel GAL sets her sights on something, she’s an irresistible force that even the most immovable object can’t defy. With no plans of taking up the family business of police work, it’s Ran’s mission to make the most of every moment. With the help of her best friends, Miyu and Aya, and the hindrance of two confused guys, Rei and Yuya, Ran always gets what she wants. Well…almost always.

Whether she’s battling crime, fending off stalkers, or sticking up for her friends, Ran never quits. She’ll tell you herself: she’s the world’s greatest gal! But be warned: if you mess with Ran or any of her friends, it’s at your complete and utter peril! That’s an ironclad rule for GALS!
As for my opinion on the show, I actually quite enjoyed it (yes, even being a guy, and with all that pinkness on the covers ;)). It has its moments, and is a lot of fun to watch in both dub and sub. I had no interest in picking this title up originally, and I won this one in a contest on AoD. I'm interested enough now to where I want to pick up more. It's 52 episodes, though, and I'll have to see if I can handle another long series to add to my collection. :)

I haven't seen this series, yet, but it looks like my kind of thing and I've been anticipating it for awhile. I'll order volume 1, once I get some more moolah. Isn't there a manga, as well?

When I saw the first ten seconds I thought it would be really stupid, but it seems cute from the rest of it and that song is catchy.

I give a hearty recommendation for SuperGALS! It's one of my absolute favorite anime. It's a bit like Kodomo no Omocha, in that it's really hyper and funny. Two thumbs way, WAY up! 8)

Eh...? Rocket Power? It's nothing like Rocket Power at all.

I'm really hooked on the series after Vol. 2 (even to the point where I want to collect it all now). This series is quite addicting. :)

Having seen the first five episodes three days ago, I can also recommend this anime. Sort of like a teenage version of Kodomo no Omocha..sort of.

I've read about Super Gals! and it looks like a good anime. The only thing that's giving me doubts about buying it is the "15+" age rating, because I don't like inappropriate anime. Can anybody tell me if there is anything inappropriate in this anime?

No, there is nothing inappropriate at all in Super GALS!, aside for general teenage rebellion... sort of.

This sounds intersting. I've seen it sitting on store shelves before, but I wasn't really willing to give it a chance before.

Don't get into too fast that you buy up all the DVDs, though (like I did). It's 52 episodes long, and the second season, up until a few weeks ago, was in licensing trouble because Bandai (the Japanese distributors of Super GALS!, not to mention lazy, crappy distributors of mostly sub-par Gundam series and Love Hina) never released the second season on DVD, so it took ADV a while to get through that problem (season two will start coming out in winter 2005).

I hope you enjoy watching it, though, if you choose to pick it up.

I did read the first three volumes of the manga, and I should be advising it for a bit of reading. I've seen images from the anime, and so far the only thing I've got to say is that the manga artwork is better, but that's frequent with anime :P

Season 2 by ADV isn't out yet? A site was selling a Super Gals! 6 DVD Bundle Pack. Are the first 6 DVDs just the first season?

Yes, Season One spans 6 DVDs.

Season 2 licensed is news to me. Especially since Winter 2005 seems bizarrely long for ADV.

I think they mean winter 2005, as in January or February. :D Which is a good thing.

It looks very cute, I am thinking of buying it some day when\if a box set comes out.
But I really should look for some more information on it first.
