Characters whose anime versions are better than the manga

Post by Rainbow » Sun Jan 18, 2004 5:46 pm

This is the antithesis of the other topic. What characters do you prefer the ANIME versions of? I can think of some for me:
Usagi and Mamoru, because I think they're more interesting and flawed in the anime. I don't like how Mamoru's supposed to be the perfect husband in the manga...his coldness makes him more interesting to me in the anime.

Taiki: She doesn't have as much of a distinct personality in the manga.

Makoto: She's more "butch" in the anime.

I might think of some more later...

The villains from BSSM, because they were given personalities and weren't killed in the first act they appeared in.

The 3 Lights from SM for the same reasons. The manga SailorStars arc focused on Usagi and the other characters were pretty much ignored.

Galaxia: I think it's the whole voice thing...and to me she just seems a lot more badass, although she was pretty damn cruel in the manga...but I respond better to her anime character.

Excel: She's much more fun, more random, and more crazy int he anime. She's got usagi's voice actress, and is so damn animated. I love the way she moves and how she's drawn.

Animamates: they got much more coverage, and were hilarious at times. I felt for Crow and Siren, and even Iron Mouse and Nyanko (as much as Nyanko makes me hate her.)

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Makoto- Her display of courage and her insecurities about not being feminine enough are better. She's cool in the manga too but seems to be lacking something. As a matter of fact Mako is the only planet senshi I like more in the anime. (I prefer the others in the manga or like them equally in both versions)

Seiya and Yaten- because they had cool presonalities, especially Seiya. There was no Seiya and Usagi thing going on in the manga. Just Seiya kissing her hand in one scene.

Most of the Sailormoon sub-villains are better in the anime because they're killed rather quickly in the manga. So they don't have much personality.

Juri and Utena- I haven't read all of the Utena manga but this iswhat I think so far. Juri's love for Shiori was far more interesting than her love for Touga in the manga. As for Utena, in the anime she seems more determined to find her prince and being a prince than in the manga.

*smacks head* can't believe I didn't mention that.
Juri is so...blah int he manga. It makes me sick that she's all into Touga the way she is...I much more love her feisty, angsty character in the anime. And Utena...lord, what a wimp in the manga.

I completely agree about Juri and Utena. I think Akio kicks more ass in the anime as well. He's more seductive, and more evil. Another for me is Prof. Tomoe. He's a lot funnier in the anime than he is in the manga.

I love anime versions more for many characters. While I love both anime and manga versions,
I love the anime versions the most of Serenity, Endymion, Usagi, Mamoru, Minako, Seiya, Hotaru, Michiru, Demando, Safiru, Urawa Ryo, Ami, Haruka, Rei and a lot more. I know Urawa Ryo was only in the anime, but the fact that he is a great character that isn't around in the manga makes it upsetting. I really wish he was I love how they added in Urawa Ryo, Ami's psychic boyfriend. He was a really cool character I wish had been somehow incorporated into the manga, like how Asanama was a lot like Shinozaki, I wish Urawa Ryo was in the manga as well. He's really cool. I love Usagi and Mamoru in both the anime and the manga. Their anime versions are my favorite. Their are so many characters I want to list, and I wish I could lsit them all.

I also prefer Mamoru in the anime, because his rudeness makes him more realistic. He has his reasons for the way he is. Since his parents died when he was at a young age, they didn't have a lot of time to teach him all of the good habits that he should have learned (which would explain why he was so immature about his crush on Usagi in the first season).

Agreed, and I also saw his rudeness as perhaps a bit of a defense mechanism as well.I mean, not only did he lose his parents(even though his amnesia probably lessened the emotional impact a bit),but he grew up all alone for all those years.Maybe he had a fear of being emotionally hurt and thus pushed Usagi away...

...or maybe I'm just talking crazy.^^;

I doubt many of you have heard of this anime/manga, but here I go..

Kouyama Mitsuki, Full Moon wo Sagashite- in the manga, all Mitsuki ever did was whine and shun everyone from her, especially when it came to her feelings to Eichi-kun. You see, unlike in the anime, in the manga
Mitsuki knows that Eichi-kun died from the get-go two years before she even met Takuto and Meroko. In the anime, she didn't find out until she went to America.
Anime Mitsuki, however, doesn't give up and cry and angst for several episodes, and she always tries her best.
