I have a soft spot for the cold characters. (usually) So sue me, I'm cold and not very nice to strangers in real life, because I HATE being greeted by people I don't know SUPER well, so I identify more with anime Mamoru more than I do manga Mamoru, who was probably created to be Naoko's idea of a perfect husband.

Look, I generally prefer anime versions of characters to the manga versions, so I shouldn't say anything else on this topic (or make a separate topic... )

Hmm I prefer Ami in the manga too. I'm not too fond of her in either version but she comes off stronger and more independent in the manga. I don't really know how to explain it further than that. ^^; However I don't think she was butchered.

Sure, she can have both. But does she WANT both? Obviously not, if she declares that she will stop her practice to have children and raise a family. It's perfectly normal. I know for a fact that when I have children, I'm goin to stop teaching at least for a few years until they're in school.
marspeach: Mamoru from BSSM- His teasing was not as cruel in the manga. It really was just playful teasing, but in the anime I would call some of it insults. Why did they have to make him so mean? He and Usagi didn't even show feelings for each other until they learned about the past in the anime.

KoiNoVash: I'd hardly call that strict. I just call that cold
Exactly. He's just downright mean in the anime...he insults her, tells her indirectly she's inferior...except for a few random shows of affection, he's a grade A jerk in the anime. In the manga, he's constantly hugging her and telling her how much he loves her...especially in R, when Chibiusa comes and Usagi feels insecure. In the anime, he basically tells her how stupid she's being and takes Chibiusa under his wing instead of Usagi. he does NOTHING to make usagi feel better.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

I never said it was a good or rational reason for favoring manga Ami; it's just how I feel. (this is why I wish I didn't have emotions sometimes!!)

As for Mamoru, I just find his manga version to be bland. If ice and sharp needles are the spices given to him in the anime, so be it. The coldness makes him more interesting to me. I could write a whole defense of him, but it's not appropriate here.

YES! YES YES YES!
I always say that, and nobody seems to agree with me! God, he's the reason I don't watch the anime. He just annoys me too damn much. In the manga, I can tolerate him, and he's really sweet at times. In the anime...*shiver*
Third that statement. Anime Hideki would insult even the intelligence of dirt (as would anime Chii). In addition, he's about as interesting as paint drying, and as humorous to watch as a late season Simpsons episode (which means he's not funny at all) with VERY FEW exceptions. And the way he treats and views Chii (as well as Hibiya-san, Shimizu-sensei, and Yumi-chan) is disgusting...he's damn lucky he lives in a society where his liking porn isn't a big deal. If he were in, say, Love Hina, he'd be dead in two minutes *evil snicker*

Another thing about Ami's unwillingness to be a bride is that doctors don't have a lot of free time. She'd have to be away from her husband for most of the time. And her job of saving lives would definitely come first for Ami. Then too, her father left when she was little. She might think that if she gets married, her husband will leave her. Ami seems like the type to think about these things more than everyone else does, IMO.

Thank you, ParaKiss Groupie. That makes a lot of sense, actually. It doesn't make me decide to stop favoring manga Ami, but it makes me rethink that one reason.

I'd say you're welcome, but I'm not entirely sure what I did. o_0? And I wasn't trying to change your mind, I was just giving a possible reason for Ami's reluctance to fall in love. And that was Manga Ami that I talked about. I don't know if Anime Ami's father left or not.

I love anime Mamoru the most too. I love a lot of anime forms the most. I love anime Mamoru, Usagi, Minako, Ami, etc. the most. I think anime Mamoru is the best looking. Anime Mamoru is the best looking, cutest, hottest, sexiest, dashing and most good looking, great looking anime character ever. I love his anime looks. I love him in both the anime and the manga. Anime Mamoru is my favorite. I also feel that anime Usagi and anime Minako and anime Ami, etc. , etc.i are the best foirms of them. I prefer most anime forms of characters, but I love both forms. I love all the Sailor Moon characters. I love all the characters for so many reasons, and have different opiniosn on each one's aniem and manga forms, depending on how they are in each versions. I love both anime and manga forms of the characters, and, depending on the character, choose whichever form I feel I love the most. I love Mamoru and Seiya. I really love both their anime and manga forms. I love anime Mamoru the most. Anime Mamoru and Anime Usagi are my favorite. I love anime Mamoru because he's so wonderful and does so many sweet
things.

I love anime Mamoru so much. I love how he always comes in at the right time. I love how in the anime the rose is his trademark and I always get a great, wonderful feeling of love and excitement whenever I see it. He's very funny and has a lot of great quotes. I love the sweet things he does. Like in the birthday episode. You can really see how happy Usagi makes him just by looking at his face. The happiness he shows and the expressions he has really shows how much he treasures Usagi and how much Usagi ahs changed his life. The expressions he has when he's thinking about Usagi or buying something for her or with her shows how she is the most important thing in his life. She changed his life so much and in the anime the happiness he shows is so adorable. Plus he's really cute, hot, sexy, gorgeous, handsome, and the ebst lookign guy ever in the anime. I love how anime Mamoru acts when he thinks about Usagi. His happiness is so endearing and sweet. In the manga he's also wodnerful. I really love how in the anime the way he ligths up whenever he thinks about Usagi. It's so cute. He's also very funny and has excellent lines. He is my favorite anime guy ever.

While I agree that anime Mamoru is a jerk,I,like a couple others, prefer him over his manga counterpart. As Rainbow said,it spices him up a little bit,and it's far more amusing than merely watching him embrace Usagi all the time and be all,"Oh baby,I love you so much,mwah,mwah,etc.".

There are also other factors in this decision. For one thing, there is the implication that Ami didn't get to spend as much time as she wanted with her own mother as a child. (This is more prevalent in the live action series.) She may want to recreate the kind of family life that she never personally experienced for her own child.
Also, it is a big commitment simply to become a doctor. One has to take pre-med as an undergraduate (about 4 years) go through medical school (another 4 years), become apprenticed (at least 2 years) and then go through residency (about 2 years) as well as taking a yearly license exam. And thats just for a regular MD like a pediatrician, a PHD for research oppurtunities takes even longer. Thens theres the whole issue of paying back thousands of dollars worth of loans. Its pretty difficult to get back to a career after taking a long absence to raise a child, so Ami might even have some doubts on how far she wants to go with her medical career.

Besides Mamoru is flawed in the manga. The guy gets brainwashed in what? almost every arc!

That's not true in either the manga or anime. He gets brainwashed only in the first arc, and in the final arc he's reborn as Galaxia's servant. He's not brainwashed any other time, in fact, in the Dream arc he plays a fairly big role since...
he has the Golden Crystal, while in the anime it was on Pegasus's forehead
In the anime, he's brainwashed in Classic, frightened into dumping Usagi by his dreams in R (but played a MAJOR part in convincing Black Lady that she was loved), he was a life-support for Chibi-Usa-sama in S, he was sick in the end of SuperS, brainwashed by Nehelenia in the first part of SailorStars, and dead in the rest of SailorStars.

Hmm, it sounds like he's brainwashed only in the first and last parts in each version.

He was also brainwashed by Black Lady in the Black Moon arc. Three times out of five seasons does seem like alot to me.

Uh... are we reading the same series here?

Most of your complaints in that last paragraph happened both in the anime and the manga. The R and Nehelenia bits are the only ones that are new to the anime. But he gets brainwashed in classic, was a life-support for Chibi-Usa-sama in the Infinity arc, sick for much of the Dream Arc, and dead for the Stars arc.

Mamoru is like the male version of the classic "damsel in distress"...
"Tell my tale to those who ask... tell it truthfully, the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly. The rest... is silence..." last words of Dinobot, "Code of Hero"
"Is that a poisonous elephant in your pocket or are you happy to see me?" ~another forum
"Monster! I''''m going to collide with you indefinitely as my limbs flail wildly about!" ~NPC, Dragon Warrior VII
"I bet you were thinking how hot it would be to see Tsunade with her gates wide open, inviting you..." ~DuneMan
"To use gaming terms, Tyrannosaurus Rex was a camper--- and he pwned his prey!" ~BaronVonAwesome
