Favorite characters that were butchered in dubs

Sorry about that. I can't stand the voice acting for the dub version of that, or any anime that gets aired. Save Big-O,Trigun and Cowboy Bebop. I didn't get the ending. Now back on subject.

I think Usagi's best friend ,Naru, does deserve a nod. In the sub she has a cute, Osaka accent. The dubbed, well... I don't know what kind of accent you would call that. She didn't show up in Stars, but it's ok. She did get a boyfriend in the previous series.

Oh, Naru=Molly.

The entire cast of Legend of the Mystical Ninja were ruined in the Englsih dub. Ebisumaru and Goemon, however, are by and far the worst.

I think Utena Tenjou herself from Shoujo Kakumei Utena is worth mentioning.Like most of the other characters you guys have named,it's mainly the voice that kills the character.In the original,she sounds very youthful and somewhat boisterous/tomboyish(as to be expected),but in the dub,not only does she often sound way older than 14,but in general she just sounds like a la-de-da goody two-shoes,which is VERY unfitting.

It's a shame,since Utena is one of my favorite characters from the show,and practically everybody else thinks Rachel Lillis voices her marvelously.-.-

I've never heard anyone Rachel Lillis did Utena well. Yours is the opinion that I always hear. And I agree with it. Rachel Lillis is not a good voice actress, IMO.

Utena's my second favorite character in the series. And actually I thought Rachel Lillis was okay. Not marvelous but decent. She should've sounded less "girly" since Utena's a tomboy.

But I'm also a little biased since she's my favorite English VA. Mostly because of how well she voiced those characters in Valkyrie Profile.

Inagawa Yuu, Comic Party- first they dump her Osaka accent, then they make her sound forty years old. Ugh, she's a high schooler, for crying out loud!

Tsukamoto Chisa, Comic Party- two words: Lisa Ortiz. Horrible, horrible dubbing job of one of the cutest characters in the series.

Motosuwa Hideki, Chobits- he sucked in the Japanese version, and he sucks even more in the dub. No emotion whatsoever...it's as if his English voice actor is doing the lines in his sleep -_-

*shiver* Gawd, Hideki annoys the crap out of me ENOUGH in the japanese version...I hate to think how annoying he must be in the dub.

that's pretty bad. If I can recall correctly, in the second manga, they changed the font (it said Sailor V) on Ami's computer at the game crown. What was the point in changing the font when it was in english to begin with??? x__x

That just pisses me off a lot. I think I'm gonna put my Mixx mangas up on ebay because I can't stand them anymore X__X

I'm pretty sure Naru/Molly in the dub has a Boston accent or some sort of northeastern U.S. accent.

I think Son Gokou was pretty chopped up in dubbed Dragonball/Z/GT. As a kid he sounds like some girl who smokes cigerattes and as an adult he sounds like the typical heroic guy. Same with Freeza. They make him out to be GAY.

Eh I'd say more like Brooklyn.. Never heard a Jerseyan with an accent remotely like Molly's. Hers sounds like Brooklyn accent. A poor imitation of one...

Hayama is going to me mauled. some of the best scenes are when he does something to Sana... *episode 13. the scene in that episode is just plain classic*

God damn, at least wait until it's RELEASED before knocking the dub. This thread is a place to bitch about characters believed to have been alreaday ruined. Kodocha just got picked up, it hasn't even had a chance yet to have a dub to judge. When there's a dub to judge, bitch about it all you want because then there will be something to bitch about. Until then, shut up about dubs that don't even exist yet.

i would say jounouchi from yugioh, obviously he is one of my favorite characters (just look at my name). the accent... it's just not right! they call him joey and they make him a complete idiot. i know jounouchi is a bit of a goof in the japanese version anyway, but damn! joey's a freakin dumbass!
also, maliku from yugioh. one question: why did they feel it necessary. to make him sound like skelator? i also hate how 1-dimentional they made him. every sentence ends with "...i will become pharoah!!! <que god-awful laugh>."
here's another question: when did kuwabara (yu yu hakusho) become randy "macho man" savage? oh my, what a horrible voice, i don't even think i have to say more; a voice like that is already enough to ruin a character.
how about kagome from inuyasha. i'll admit, i saw inuyasha in english first; when i finally saw it in japanese, i was surprised at how little she annoyed me.
and lastly i would say yami no maliku from yugioh was butchered almost as much as maliku. the two maliku's objectives are different, yet in the dub they are both the same (i'd also like to mention the objective was changed even with regular old maliku). the two's personalities in the dub are no different from each other's, they made it so there was no point in maliku transforming at all. i'd also like to add, as unbelievable as it sounds, they actually managed to make maliku's voice even worse. now he sounds like skelator with a vocal distortion device.

I can actually tolerate the voice, if you can believe that. Though I still thinks it makes Kuwabara sound too stupid. Please note that I've never seen the Japanese version of Yuu Yuu Hakusho, though if I did, I'd probably hate his dub voice in a second.
