Spending too much Anime

Post by PH » Mon Jan 12, 2004 10:25 pm

Have you ever spend too much Anime before? I mean, spending off your whole money on manga books, DVD's, artbooks, etc.

It happens to me though. This time, I plan not to overdo it too much. So, what have you spend too much on?

Definitely.

Derek and I went to A-kon last year, and spend about 100 dollars on manga. One vendor was having a fantastic manga sale, so we cleaned out on the sailor moons we needed, some ayashi no ceres, ranma 1/2, excel saga, and more. We've also spent about 100 dollars on hentai boxsets (*halo*), and we buy a ton of posters.

Luckily, I can tame my self on how much I spend. First, I get what I want, then I set it on the floor in the store, sort out what I want, and what I can pass on. Then, I take out how much money I have (if I brough cash) and see what I can buy. Now, with my check card, I get 3 things at the most. Because of stupid insurance, and other things, I can't spend too much on my low income. I havn't gone over board yet. I just spend my limit. Smart buyer over here

well, I mean, obviously derek and I don't buy what we can't buy. We always make sure we have more than enough money. When we go to cons, we make sure to save up enough to hvae fun and blow some cash.

I haven't bought any anime in God knows how long. o_O;; (just some manga) But at one point I was spending a lot on Sailormoon manga.

And I went to a con in the fall of 2002. I bought plenty of posters, a wallscroll, key chains, and a Sailormoon manga artbook. I feel silly for getting the artbook. It was almost 30 bucks and I already know a site with all of the manga art. heh I guess I could consider having the real thing a collector's item. ^_^ Anyway all of it cost me over 100 bucks. A lot for me to spend all at once on anime stuff.

Yeah, I definetly spend quite a bit on anime, but it's money well spent. I was in a bit of a buying frenzy of DVDs and video games in most of 2002 and early 2003, but I've calmed down considerably in what I buy, especially being on my own now. Unless it's something I know I'll love, I usually wait for a good deal on something, or pre-order at low costs. I've become a smart anime consumer, especially lately, where in this break I've spent only $115 in where I have gained 18 DVDs as well as 2 OST CDs, and yes that total price does include shipping. I'm very proud of this since I've made a good increase in my collection and still have quite a bit of money saved up to help me get through the first half of the semester without much worry.

You two spent that much money there? Now I'm scared to go, I'm a consumer whore and I can't be a good one when I can't buy, heh. ^^;;;

I currently don't have a part-time job, so I can't buy anime alot throughout the year expcet for my birthday and Christmas, but I do tend to go all-out during Christmas. I'll have to watch how much I spend once I get a job somewhere.

^^;;;; the 100 dollars was just on manga. we also bought a dvd or two, and some random merchandise (posters, etc). The hentai boxsets were bought at a store in boston, not at a con.
but that's one thing you'll find out about cons, Dan...the vendors will suck you dry o_o

I'd have teo say that only happened when I was trying to get as much Ranma as I could, and ended up going broke. Luckily I'ms still young enough to live with my parents, so I get allowance, but that wasn't quite enough. I got plenty of money for christmas, and made myself promise to regulate how much I spend.

Me: Can I just say?

Me: (says what)
Ko: .....What's that?
Me: ......*starts crying*
Carley: STEVE! STEVE GET OVER HERE AND TELL KO WHAT VIAGRA DOES!
Steve: See, it's like this: The bridge goes up and the soldiers rush out....

It seems that anime in Canada is very expensive. Like the Sailor Moon dvds go for about 40$. And in the place I live there aren't any anime stores around, so I have to go on the internet....Which means I need a credit card of sorts, which at my age, I can't have....*sigh* So I am very anime-less

The only thing I'm now buying is the anime CDs off eBay.

So far, I have over 30 of them, mostly from Tenchi Muyo. I'm now buying the Pokemon CDs (the Japanese versions; you know, 'Mezase Pokemon Master', 'Rival', 'OK!', etc.).

I really want the CD with all of the opening and endings up to to the first Advanced Generation opening and ending. But not having much money (I don't have a part-time job), I can't really buy much anime CDs or DVDs. Fortunately, my little siblings help out very often at purchasing anime ^_^

Heehee... this is soooo appropo right now. Over the weekend, I went to Best Buy and spent $100 on anime. Cat Soup, Read or Die, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, and Samurai Deeper Kyo DVD 1. And just a few weeks ago, I bought more Haibane Renmei and the Miyuki-chan manga, along with Alice 19th. I'm waiting for my ParaKisu 4 to come in from Books-A-Million, and I'm currently saving my money to go to A-kon this summer as well. So, right now, I've probably already spent $150 in a few weeks, and this will be bumped up to even more once I get paid. Does spending money to get to where I can spend money on anime count?

This isn't a discussion about what merchandise you'd like..it's a discussion about spending too much on anime products.

I am totally broke because of every thing I bought in the past two months. I try not to look on Amazon.com or .co.jp anymore because of this. Now there's some more stuff I desperately want, but am not working enough hours in the next few weeks to pay for it. My mom won't buy it for me either. Luckily I found some gift cards to bookstores that I lost at Christmas so hopefully I can get at least one more manga. I am too greedy. Maybe I should convert to Buddhism. I don't know if that will make life harder for me though...

My problem is that I like to spend every last penny on whatever goods I can find. I once had to count six dollars worth of coins to buy a Sailormoon artbook (this one cost 50 bucks). Another time, after a day full of shopping, I found the capsule figures. I REALLY wanted the Mistress 9 figure but it was like $18 (yes I was that broke), so instead of saving I spent the $10 I had on a Black Lady KEYCHAIN.
