I never watched all of FLCL or Lain, but what I saw of both of these just made me go "WTF"? I couldn't get into either of them. :/
Utena is pretty weird too.. I love the series, and I know it uses a lot of symbolism but a lot of things in the (series and the movie) just made me go "huh!?!? i don't get it!!". Especially the scenes with the Shadow Girls when I was still new to it.

I loved Gatekeepers 21! And I felt the same way after it ended.
WTF? That girl just destroyed the world? Why is everyone alive?
But then I found out what happened. TechTV had to cut episode 6 (the final episode) a few seconds short, and one of the scenes they cut short was the explanation of the "Inverse Gate." Basically,
Ghost Girl opened the Black Gate with the power of her hatred. Because of all her negative energy, it became an Inverse Gate. Meaning it had the Inverse Effect that it was supposed to. So, when the Inverse Black Gate swallowed the world, it healed rather than destroyed it.
Yamato-san wrote: Also on Tech TV, there was Gate Keepers 21. I followed most of it, but then, there was that ending to the series. Tokyo looks like it's been totally nuked, and then it's suddenly back to normal, and nothing is said to explain it. WTF?
TechTV used to have the missing scenes available on their website, but I'm not sure if they still do or not. You'd have to check.

Wow! I thought I was the only one in the world who disliked FLCL!! Especially Naota and Haruko, the main characters, both who I wanted to smack with guitars of MY OWN as well. If I want "stupid ha ha" comedy, I'll just stick with Excel Saga, GAINAX.Tiff wrote:Ah, I'm amazed I forgot that, considering the fact that I HATE FLCL...the animation is horrid (IMO), and the stupid girl who smacks people with her guitar drives me crazy. It's just stupid, I think.

Wait a minute... does that mean that the power of hatred saved the day?
Ghost Girl opened the Black Gate with the power of her hatred. Because of all her negative energy, it became an Inverse Gate. Meaning it had the Inverse Effect that it was supposed to. So, when the Inverse Black Gate swallowed the world, it healed rather than destroyed it.

One weird anime would be Hikari no Go, which is a shonen anime about the game of Go. I believe this is quite possibly the ultimate proof that one can make an anime about anything. There are so many things that can go wrong with an anime like this but since its so popular, even I am getting curious about what its like. Maybe its might even be possible to make a decent anime about fishing... never mind^.^;;

And see, I dont even find it the least bit funny...Excel Saga, on the other hand, I find hilarious. A lot of people don't understand how I can like Excel and not FLCL...to me, they're on entirely different levels.

Has anyone heard of Ebichu? It is an anime about a talking hamster that takes care of his master (a siingle 25 year old Japanese woman) house. Its drawn like Crayon Shin-Chan but shows the woman having sex with her loser boyfriend, and the hamster being beaten bloody by her when he walks in. It even has swearing and weird dialogue. ("Your putting your thing in her shit-hole!")

I seriously was coming into this thread to post abuot Ebichu, and there you were with a post about it LOL Yeah, they show Ebichu at the beginning of every Hentai Fest at Ushicon, just for fun. It's insane, but I crack up everytime. Ebichu's voice is sickingly cute (reminds me of Usagi o_o; ), and the show is just....fucked up.Vagabond wrote:Has anyone heard of Ebichu? It's the same voice: Kotono Mitsuishi.Tiff wrote:Ebichu's voice is sickingly cute (reminds me of Usagi o_o; ), and the show is just....fucked up.
Tomizawa Michie (Hino Rei/ Sailor Mars) provides the voice of Ebichu's owner, and Seki Tomokazu plays her boyfriend.

I just did a search for it, and it looks like the closest match is "Tree of Palme" ( http://anime-tourist.com/article.php?sid=352 and http://www.mediaminer.org/anime/view_info.php/594 have some information on it). I haven't seen it, so I don't for sure.Em wrote:I can't rmeber the name of the anime ( it was The Tree something somewthing I think anyone know this one?) but it's a moive that has a wooden puppet that is truning into a tree 2 kids trying to get said puppet to this place wiht another big tree wich is going all evil and wahting to kille everything and end's with puppet saveing the world or whatever adn trunning into a tree in the kids village there was also a side sotry of the puppet and the girl falling in love or something like that anyway it was just 0_o

*huggles Tiff for making him crack up in a library* Serial Experiments Lain is weird, I mean the fist episode, or layer, is called "Weird," plus the second the show begins, even before the opening credits, there is a croaking voice forcing out "Present day, present time." Everyone says it's hard to follow, but I found it easy for some reason. Excel Saga seems bizarre, but the manga (Vol. 2 of which I own, yay for Sailor X for spending some money!) just seems plain old crazy.Tiff wrote:EEE I THOUGHT it sounded wayy too much like Kotono Mitsuishi! That avatar is a self portrait. Really. Really. No matter how much it looks like D'Angelo, that's me. .... Oh, just shut up.

Night on the Galactic Railroad. It's supposed to be a kids movie and it's full of all these surrealistic images, many of which don't make any sense. And to top it all off the characters are all anthropomorphic cat people, except for this one family who died on the Titanic who comes in towards the end of the movie. This is what would happen if Stanley Kubrick or David Lynch collaborated on an animated movie with Walt Disney.

Gaw, thanks to you guys, I downloaded a few Ebichu episodes and my husband and I are now addicted lol. i would have to say jungle wa itsumo hale nochi guu. it's about this kid who's mom comes home drunk with this girl who has the ability to change her face. she can also eat (and regergitate) anything she pleases. speaking of which, she also has an entire acid trip of a world inside of her stomach. that seems wierd enough, right? well, rabid, afro-wearing women; wild chest hair; and pleanty of mushroom-happy abilities help to make this one of the wierdest anime i've ever seen (of course i mean this in a good way).
and the ever unpopular bobobo-bo bo-bobo. as far as wierd goes, this one takes the freakin' bakery (of couse i don't mean this in a good way). wierd as it may be, unlike jungle...guu, this show has no story whatsoever in any of the episodes. for example: bobobo and beauty go to a party town, bobobo beats up everyone there for no reason. it's then revealed that he was upset because the band living in his hair was breaking up
. beauty goes into the forest and meets a guy sent to kill bobobo with duck underwear on his head. bobobo arrives with the duck underwear's father who was living in his hair (*sigh* it's almost over). the duck explained that he'd made it with a pair of panties, there for, the duck underwear was a swan......whatever. bobobo beat up the guy and mister duck undies, end of episode. seriously! i'm not making this s**t up! anyway, wierd? yes. entertaining? uh...
