By "misunderstood", that's when a character gets unfairly bashed by ignorant fans for (mostly) stupid reasons (for example, Relena in GW and Ayeka in Tenchi).

Slayers: Amelia

I'm for Minmei (Macross).
Almost everyone I've spoken to who likes Macross says that they find Minmei to be annoying and I don't know why. One person said that she's just not a match for Misa Hayaes. These people have to remember that Hikaru wouldn't be where he was today if it wasn't for Minmei who encouraged him to join the military. She's also important to the storyline as her singing voice has this certain effect on the Zentreadi.

Miaka (Fushigi Yuugi)- I don't find her annoying... She's one of my favorites in FY. And even though she's not that smart, (I don't think she's stupid ) she's an entertaining character. Funny, cute, and she has a good heart. A lot of people also say she's selfish. But if she was so selfish there are many things that wouldn't have occured in the series. Hell if you ask me, she's similar to Usagi.
Tamahome (Fushigi Yuugi)- Many people say Tamahome's annoying too. Well he and Miaka make my favorite hetero couple in anime. How they scream for each other is always being exaggerated. He cares a great deal about her, and I love his overall character. He can be very serious sometimes and at other times he's downright hilarious. Not to mention he's mad hot. He's my second favorite male anime character.
Chibi-Usa (Sailormoon)- Ok Chibi-Usa isn't really a favorite of mine. But I do like her and she's one of the cutest anime characters ever. Most people who hate her hate her in the anime. Sylphiel (Slayers) - A lot of people call her a support character. And they say that the only thing she does is hang in the background and say "Gourry-sama" all of the time and is overly obsessed about him. She's not OVERLY obsessed, just a little if at all.
And also, Lina and the others would've been screwed over a couple of times if Sylphiel wasn't there.

Usagi - BSSM. A lot of people call her stupid, which is completely wrong IMO. She's not a complete idiot. She's a ditz, yes, and she's very ignorant about a lot of things, but this doesn't make one stupid.
Amelia - Slayers. Yes, she can be horridly annoying, but she can be damn sweet, too. And hilarious at times. Her completely caring nature for her friends sometimes touches me, and even I have a place for this annoying little bugger.
Queen Beryl - BSSM. I'm mainly thinking of the manga version...I mean, come on. The woman just wanted to love Endymion, and for him to love her back...Metallia took advantage of this, and she let her emotions overcome her and become evil. I pity characters like this. I really hate when she's referred to as this evil being, when she's really not.
Zelgadis - Slayers. I've read plenty of sites and articles where it is said that it's Zel's fault he's the way he is. Wtf. The guy wanted more power, not to be made into a stone chimera. I pity him as well, and love him as a character.

I think the reason why people don't like Tracey from Pokemon is because he simply didn't match up to Brock. While Brock had a fairly interesting (and somewhat tragic) past and was a funny character, there was almost nothing on Tracey. He was just... there. The fact that he as only in the Orange League saga, which was pretty boring in general, only adds to this misunderstanding. Who is Casey?To DuoTheShinigami02: Damn you! Why are those characters misunderstood in the Legend of Zelda? Also, I don't think Tingle ever was in the manga.

First, Princess Zelda is often bashed just for (what they call, anyway) bossing their precious Linkie-pooh around...you know that when I say that, this comes from rabid venom-injected fangirls, right? Anyway, they should know that without this girl, the whole Zelda series would never come into existence. And Princess Ruto is hated for the same reason, bossing Link around in the belly of Jabujabu-sama and barely doing any work. And Skull Kid is hated because he was weak enough to let the mask control his mind....and Tingle because he is a weirdo midget who thinks he is a fairy.Why are those characters misunderstood in the Legend of Zelda? Also, I don't think Tingle ever was in the manga.
