Noir
Have anyone seen Noir? I can get anything I want for Christmas and I might get Vol.1 of Noir. I heard the audio is good on the DVD (5.1 surround sound)! Is it worth it?
I have seen Noir (although not on DVD, so I can't comment on that ... sorry).
I think I might be in the minority on this one, but I thought Noir was just OK. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either.
It's REALLY slow in developing the plot ... I think it takes about 7 or 8 episodes before you really see any substantial plot advancement. Towards the end, though, the show gets pretty interesting. You just have to be really patient with it.
By the way, it's done by Bee Train - the same people who did .hack//SIGN, and are now doing Avenger. (I don't like either of those series, as well, so I might be somewhat biased when it comes to these types of very slow-developing series).

I have the First Volume. The Audio Tracks and Video is prefectly fine. I like NOIR alot, but it's one of those "Once in a While" animes for me. It's good every-so-often as a change of pace.
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

To be honest, I can't remember if there's action in every episode or not. There are definitely a lot of action sequences overall.
If you want a more detailed review, you can go to AnimeOnDVD.com ... go to http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews/categ ... y=1&view=4 and then search for "Noir". There are 4 reviews for disc 1. There are some slight spoilers, just so you know.
A lot of people do like this series. When we were showing it at our anime club (we finished over a year ago), I think the majority of people liked it. It was also quite popular while it was being aired in Japan, as I recall. According to Anihabara (http://east.sakura.ne.jp/aniba/), Noir was the #1 anime in May 2001 (it started in April), and was #2 in both August and October.

I got myself Vol.1! After watching it, it was...kind of boring. Too much long flashbacks.
Maybe I should skip Vol.2 and go on to the part where Chloe comes in? Also, my Vol.1 came with decoder glasses. What are they for? Is there a hidden extra on the DVD? Please tell me how to access it!
Also, I have some questions. Why must Mireille kill Kirika?

Mirielle told Kirika in the first episodes that the second they found out who Noir was, she'd kill her. Needless to say, Mirielle isn't the type to get along well with others.
As for skipping episodes...just go tho the fourth DVD if you want to see Chloe's debut (though you'll miss out on some plot in the process, such as who Altena is. Though I suppose you could just read about the episodes on the Internet if you're confused).
My opinion on Noir? I like it, though the slow pace, huge amount of stock fottage, and lousy frame rates definitely make it a required taste.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

I bought the DVD boxset of Noir a while ago and I ended up really liking it a lot. The music is absolutely beautiful, some of the best I've heard in an anime, and the plot is really dark and serious and becomes really interesting towards the end. It's probably one of my favorite anime series actually. I'd highly reccomend it.
