Hellsing

Post by Stephen Victor » Fri Oct 17, 2003 2:43 am

I'm just wondering ... who has seen this anime and what are their opinions on it? I taped the first few episodes off the Action Channel and so far I've watched two of them. They were really funny; there was this stereotypical black gangsta guy going around who cursed every line. Seras seems like a neat character -- I love the way she's drawn, too. Her hair, eyes and clothes are all very cool.

I've seen the first two DVDs of Hellsing (eps. 1-6), and I must say I was a little disappointed. I've heard so much about Hellsing's violence, and how many adults think its too violent for them to handle. It wasn't THAT violent. In fact, the violence was rather boring. It wasn't until episode 6 that I thought it was good. And Seras Victoria bugs me. She's offered the chance of a lifetime, and it took her forever to just drink the damn blood! No human died for it, so she really should've calmed down. Now, after that, she was awesome. And I think the dub was done very well. So, I thought it was an OK show, but I don't think it deserves all the glory it gets.

I haven't seen it yet, but I have the first DVD and the next ones are coming. I've heard a lot of good about it, and I like to watch a horror anime around Halloween. Right now I'm finishing up the Black Rose saga of Utena, I'll let you know what I think of Hellsing after I start watching it.

Well, I haven't seen a subtitled version to compare it to, but the voices seemed good, especially Seras Victoria's which was nice to listen to. I love British accents.

I liked Hellsing. I susally don't like that type of anime ... but it ... just drew me ... in o.o In my humble opinion, Crispin Freeman didn;t do a half-bad job as Alucard. I got so used to his as Zelgadis that I didn't think he would do a good job. I was pleasantly suprised.

My sister told me Season 2 was being made.
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

I think the point is that she didn't want to accept that she's now a vampire and now has to drink blood to survive. Do you think you could just drink human blood with no hesitation, even if you knew it was donor blood that no one died for?

I've seen the first 9 episodes now, and so far I think it's pretty good, but not quite as good as the hype made it out to be.

This may sound cruel, but yes, I do. No one was harmed to get that blood, so I wouldn't mind. And over time I would be comfortable with killing to get it. It's sink or swim, and I choose to swim.

I think I'd be able to accept it as well, but from her perspective she was a police woman and this was probably the type of thing she swore to protect against. I don't think it's as much about the blood itself as accepting that she's now a vampire.

First off, to those who don't think it was too violent. Are you getting the true Japanese version? I'd suggest downloading. Hellsing is one of the best animations around today. It's one of the select few animations around today that makes you think and those that don't like it are probably the ones who have brains the size of peas that can't count passed 10. I think it had a perfect ending, in my opinion. It made you kind of make up your own ending and made your mind wander if she would really take Alucard's offer. With the Hellsing family legacy shattered to pieces, what is left to tie her to fighting? Or with such a pride that she has, will she decline as ever?

Actually, I can count past 10. And in several different languages. So I didn't like the show that much. Big deal. I've seen it dubbed and subbed. I've seen the original. I was expecting more violence than I got. Why is it so bad that I didn't like it as much as other people do? God forbid I have a different opinion than yours, oh esteemed pookiepothead.

Same for me. Having an opinion is fine, saying people are stupid cause they don't have the same as yours is the problem.

Hellsing is by far one of my favorites. Not extremely violent, but a pretty decent amount. Alucard ios by far one of anime's best.

Hellsing was absolutly fantastic in my opinion! of course i love everything, but truly i loved it. i had some confusion trying to find out if integra was a guy or girl cuz damn, she looked like a guy to me! but later on, her character really shined through. seras was great, i liked her character and her english voice. alucard was my favorite, he was just totally awesome to me. the story was good, the ending just really got me down. they better make a freaking second season or god knows what i'll do o.o

Love the anime. This dub is my favorite, since it takes place in England and they have English voices =P I'm hoping to see Hellsing Ultimate pretty soon (yay, they got the original cast back! =D)

Little bit of funny trivia...in one of the episodes, if you turn it up loud enough, you can hear Godzilla roaring XD Hearing that totally made my day.
The Facts of the Animal Kingdom:
"Zebras can bite."
"Snakes say sss."
"Lions chase people."
And of course…”Tigers bite you.”
--From Tiffu’s Pre-K students. =D
And one from me...Leopards are gorgeous.

I've watched a few episodes of Hellsing, in Japanese with English subtitles. I really enjoyed it. I just need to go back and finish it one of these days...

Saw a majority of the dub over the summer and liked it a lot. I didn't think the violence was all that bad, nothing worse than a random horror movie in theaters today. I read somewhere (Wikipedia I think) that they're making an OVA based on the manga or something close to that.

The OVA is called Hellsing Ultimate and Geneon is releasing it. The first episode is already out on DVD with the second one coming soon. The OVA will stick closer to the manga.

I love Hellsing but, I reccommend the manga. It's MUCH more violent than the anime, Seras does not take FOREVER to drink blood, there's more characters, and Integral isn't quite as cold as she is in the anime. She s actually LIKES Seras in the manga. Also it's LONGER, not the short little 13 episodes of the anime. The manga is still on going right now.
