The Anime Network (Whee!)

Post by Sailor X » Tue Dec 09, 2003 5:44 pm

Hee hee... nice Time Warner has put The Anime Network On Demand on our service. Sailor X loves it so much! I like Full Metal Panic, Princess Nine, Bluee Seed, Nadesico... so enjoyable. Discuss, people. Got it? Don't got it?

;_; I don't have it. Now, i want it and will soon develop a need for it.
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

Damn Corsicana. Damn shitty cable company. Damn...everything.
Ah, well. I'm sure most of the anime is dubbed, ne? I'll have none of that, thanks.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

It's all dubbed. ADV Films has stated that they do not wish to show subbed anime on the Anime Network.

I don't have this channel. I used to want it really badly, but I don't anymore. Some of the shows look pretty good (for instance, Excel Saga and Evangelion), but I can just buy the ones I really like (I bought Excel Saga and Evangelion). So, I'd like to have it, but I'm content without it.

EDIT: I guess I can't say that ADV Films is the company behind the Anime Network. I heard that Chobits premiered on it a few months ago. But, I don't know if its true or not. If it is, then I guess Geneon is now in the line-up too, so there will probably be more anime of more kinds.

As far as I know, all the anime that's on the Anime Network is dubbed and stuff that ADV Films has licensed. Other than reruns on the WB, I don't watch much anime on tv. I just can't seem to keep up with tvshows daily or weekly. I prefer to own anime on DVD so I can watch them bilingual and any time I want.

Blah. forget it, then. I agree with you...I generally buy, borrow, or download anime in which i'm interested, and right now, I haven't had time for new anime.

Hmph. I was seriously expecting subtitled anime on that channel. It would have given me a great excuse not to buy DVDs anymore! :D

But I can't always get what I want. If I want to download anymore anime, my computer's going to crash (it's getting old, trust me; I'd have to quickly put all of the files onto disc before the crash), and those DVDs can take up a lot of space if you're a collector junkie. So they might actually take that into consideration one day. Not in the near future, but someday...if they actually use their brains...

To clear up any confusion, The Anime Network IS owned by ADV, however this doesn't by any means mean that the station will only feature ADV titles. It's a legit station that can acquire broadcast rights to any show they can, as mentioned Geneon's Chobits, as well as Right Stuf's Boogiepop Phantom. While the station will be mostly ADV shows, it's still very early in the station's life (one year now this month) and I'm sure a lot more shows will be on it. I know they plan on it, since they hope to eventually have the ability to have the station air programs in a regular format as well as the on demand.

As for my opnion on the station, I was very glad to hear that my Time Warner location was one of the ones that picked it up last month. ^_^ I haven't watched too much off of it yet, as many series on it right now have episodes up somewhere between 3 - 7 for various shows. I've watched the first episode of Princess Nine the first night it went up (it's been two weeks almost, put up episode two!), and watched the You're Under Arrest Movie a couple nights ago. My only criticism for the station is to make a better roataion schedule. Since I discovered the network a couple weeks ago, much of the same stuff is still on it, with the only additions I noticed being the two programs I watched. Last week, I only noticed one addition to the lineup, Aura Battle Dunbine, but they started it on the third episode. Not to mention there's only the first episode up for Princess Nine for close to two weeks now. >.< They should do something like set a day a week to add another episode for a show, and keep doing that, and take away an episode after it's been on for a couple weeks, or something like that. If they did something along those lines instead of changing maybe two things only once a week which it seems like now, I'd be all over it. They should also keep their site more up to date with what's actually on the station too, I don't see anything for P9 up there yet and I'm seeing stuff on shows not currently on there.

Overall, I really like the network, they just need to work on their flaws and get more shows and then it will be fricken awesome.

Even if they're airing some of Geneon's anime and anime from other companies, I still don't see the appeal in it. It's dub only and I usually prefer to watch the sub first if I can before I watch the dub. Also, like I said I have a hard time keeping up with shows on tv as I tend to forget about them being on or I get distracted by other things. If Comcast Digital Cable suddenly starts playing the Anime Network, I might check it out, but until then, I'm sticking to DVDs.

I wish I had this channel...

I don't care if it's dubbed. I like watching anime dubbed, so that's a good thing imo.

If you don't have digital, don't bother looking. The Anime Network is only an ondemand channel at the moment. This means basically you choose what you want to watch from a listing of shows. This service is only availble to digital cable subscribers, and is used for much more than just The Anime Network.

That's what I have. :( But I checked the cable company's website and they didn't have any anime channels in their channel list? Is it possible they haven't updated it yet? They didn't have any new-channel updates either... :(

I agree.
I like alot of dubs, and I'm not going to turn my nose up at a dub until I've seen it first.

I used to watch anime dubbed all the time, I mean, I watched Sailor Moon dubbed on TV, its all up hill after that ^_^ I want this channel....cable would be nice too. Why won't this channel spread Nation wide? It needs to be! Why go little by little? I remember when it was just in one city...I think it was Pennsylvania...

T_T... Time Warner pulled out of Central Florida about a year ago. Almost every place in Florida (minus crappy Comcast in the Keys... *shudder*) has Time Warner except for us! Not that I'm complaining... dubbed anime is a total turnoff and the only show I'm even remotely interested in is Sorcerer Hunters.

I'm not turning my nose up at them. I'm just not interested, and don't have the time to watch any new anime right now.
I really wish people (and i'm not saying you're doing t his, tempy, just people in general) would quit equating the fact that I prefer subs with that meaning I think all dubs suck regardless of how they really are.

Do you have to pay extra for the shows you watch, then? I mean, I know you'll have to pay extra for the network, but when you select a show to watch, do you have to pay extra for it? My dad watched a movie like what you described on one of those ondemands networks once and didn't know you had to pay extra for it and he got mad about it when he had to pay for that movie he watched. I'm a bit confused here.

No, The Anime Network costs nothing extra, it's part of your digital plan. While most of the In Demand movie stations cost money to play movies and such, there are On Demand network stations where you can just go to the channel and choose from the show listings to watch what you want on the list. Other familiar cable networks have on demand versions of their stations too, which also have no extra charge, like there's a Cartoon Network on demand. In the case of your dad, he failed to see if there was a price or not for the movie he was watching, as the pay services are much more common that the free ones. If you're ever confused if something is pay or free, you'll see there's a price by the description of the show if it's pay, no price if free, and you can be rest assured that The Anime Network is free.
